Monster in the mines

"Dewi Ortiz, my name is Dewi Ortiz but you may call me Dewi" The man in the rosvelt suit introduced himself before pointing to the opulently dressed man.

"This is Brogan Rice representative of the Rice family and head of the town council" Brogan Rice regained his bearing at his introduction, even regaining his arrogant bearing although his fear was still present in his eyes.

Dewi continued to introduce the rest of the council who were made up of more representatives than locals. The Gladius gave a respectful nod to the others, before returning their focus to Dewi.

There was another minute of silence before Dewi spoke, "right, guards return to your duties! If you will, please follow me up to my office to discuss the pressing matters." Dewi said the last bit to the Gladius in a soft tone and then proceeded to lead them upstairs with the other members of the council staring at them.

....

"I'm grateful you accepted my request, erhm do you care for some water... or wine if that's what you prefer?" Dewi seated behind his desk nervously stared at the two Gladius who remained standing, refusing to have a seat.

"That would not be necessary, your request mentioned miners disappearing" C-6-367 spoke up going straight to the heart of the matter.

"Haha it looks like the rumors about your kind are true, yes we have had miners disappearing since 4 months ago-" "four months?" Kayla cut Dewi off.

"Your request to us was only made a week ago."

"*hah* Indeed, when the people began to report the disappearances to us, our first thought was that it was the insurgents. As you know one of the Insurgents leaders Jeor hade made grand strides in our region taking down a few towns and a city or two."

Dewi continued, "Considering the fact that, Kithrombe has one of the two Detreunium mines in the region. It was almost assured that our town would be a target sooner or later we just assumed, that it was time."

"You said your first thought, so what changed your mind?" C-6-367 questioned. "We sent our town guards as well as a few hedge knights to check on the matter... only two of them returned, frightened out of their minds", Dewi began to tremble as he remembered the state of the survivor.

Quickly touching his chest three times, allowing for the Gladius to gleam that he was a believer of the moons. "What did the survivors say?" Kayla asked, stopping the man from entering whatever nightmare his mind was conjuring.

"They claimed they saw a monster... one that devoured the others. Once the news spread, no miner dared to return to work, not only in the Detreunium mine but all the mines. With matters being what they were I and a few others wanted to call on you... but... the representatives..."

Dewi didn't continue but both Gladius understood. To the representatives who originated from the crown regions, they couldn't care less for the people of Kithrombe.

This place was merely a place to contribute to their ever growing wealth, and to ask them to spend money out of their pockets must have been the same as asking them for the skin of their backs.

"When the situation finally started to get out of our control they agreed to make a request."

"We understand the situation, after making the necessary preparations. We will deal with your monster problem." After those words, C-6-367 as well as Kayla turned to leave.

"Wait! I mean, when will you deal with the creature?"

"By this time tomorrow it should be done"

.....

"Monster hunting, It's been a while. My last was a month ago, what about you?" Kayla questioned C-6-367 after they made it out of the hall.

"I was on a long hunt which lasted a few months," was C-6-367's reply. "So a while, locals or to the mine?"

"Locals, we don't have enough information just yet to determine what type of creature we are dealing with." C-6-367 spoke up after a second of consideration.

"There should be a pub around, miners love to drink. I can bet you that even if they don't have enough for food, they most certainly have enough for alcohol."

With Kithrombe being as small as it was, it did not take much effort to find the town's pub. Before even drawing close the enhanced hearing of the two was able to pick up the murmurs coming from the pub.

The murmurs disappeared with the entry of the two Gladius, all miners tensed up and stared at the creatures that were used to frighten them as children.

"We are here to aid with your problem, if anyone of you has any information that would help we would appreciate it." Kayla spoke letting some emotion back into her voice as an attempt to convince the miners, but all she was met with was silence.

The miners continued to remain numb, with some outright staring at the Gladius. Others avoiding their gaze with fervent might, as well as few focused on their drinks as though unaware of the two imposingly clad Gladius.

The Gladius left after a few minutes seeing that none of the miners were willing to engage in a conversation with them. They had yet to turn another street when they heard someone calling out to them causing them to stop and turn around.

"Doug, me name's Doug I'm a miner down in the Detreunium mines. If yer really gonna deal with the thing down in it, then I'm will to yer everything I know".
