“I’m coming for you!” Raina shouted as she eyed something on Aeliana’s neck. “What is that?” She exclaimed, her expression suddenly turning flat. “Hand it over to me now! This instant, before I choke you to death.”
“It’s mine!” Aeliana shouted. She knew that her mother would likely steal the moonstone necklace if she knew her father had given it to her for her 18th. But for now, she would lie, as long as it would serve to protect her in some way.
“How did you get your hands on this?” Raina quipped darkly, threateningly. “It was your father’s. And it was not supposed to be handed off to you so flippantly.”
“Well, maybe if you had actually been a mother to me!” Aeliana growled, barreling straight into her mother’s heart.
Raina then fell over in anguish, grabbing herself by the neck. “Mama, what’s wrong? Did I hurt you?” Aeliana said sarcastically. She wanted to fend for herself.
