Inability

Later that day, inside the Uchiha compound.

Masaki ambled around, thinking about what happened in the last few hours. Although his feet were moving forward, his head was elsewhere.

Occasionally, he'd pass by someone from the clan, and they'd respectfully bow. Ren's matter hadn't been made public yet, so they all just greeted him like usual.

'Just when he was finally starting to change for the better...' He couldn't help but find it unfortunate. Ren had started maturing and growing as not only a ninja but also as a person, yet he had to be taken away.

Masaki couldn't understand this. Could he blame it on fate? Or was there something else at hand...

'But why would he be targeted... Because he's my son? Is someone after me?' This train of thought only made him feel worse. The last thing he wanted was for his children to suffer because of him.

Eventually, he reached his residence. Greeting him respect, the guards bowed down as they watched him enter.

Taking off his shoes, Masaki walked through the wooden corridors, finally stopping outside his daughter's room. Although there was but a mere paper door in between them, the sorrow coming from inside was so real he felt it tickle his skin.

"..." Raising his hand to knock, Masaki stopped himself. Although he wanted to comfort his daughter, he knew these wounds required time to heal. A superficial fix would never be enough.

'Is this why I got so strong for? Why did I awaken the Mangekyo Sharingan when I can't even protect my children?' Overwhelmed with grief, Masaki clenched his fists as he stared at the wooden floor.

"Why...?" His eyes spun, turning crimson red. The three tomoe in his eyes extended, forming a spiraling shape as Masaki's Magekyo activated once again.

Remembering every single person that had died by his hands, as well as their expression when he killed them, Masaki furiously clenched his teeth. 'I can't even shed tears... Is this my fate? Will I never see my son again?'

With a grim expression, Masaki continued walking, reaching another courtyard. Sliding the door open, the first thing he saw was Aito and Jun diligently training.

Jun was doing one-handed pushups, while Aito practiced Shuriken throwing on a nearby group of targets.

"Alright... I'll do it like Aniki now!" Activating his Sharingan, Aito jumped in the air, flipping around as he threw all of his Shuriken.

All of them hit their target, some even deflecting others to achieve a perfect result. Landing on the ground, Aito checked all of the targets and jumped with joy.

"I did it! Aniki! I did it!"

'That boy... How old is he? Did he awaken the Sharingan...? That's...'

To awaken the Sharingan at such a young age was by no means a small feat, but it made Masaki feel pity for Aito. After all, the requirements to awaken it were never supposed to happen to a boy his age.

"Oh, Masaki-san... You're back? How is Ren?" Noticing the old man, Jun stopped his exercise and quickly dried off his sweat. His muscles were well-defined, so much so that his body looked like a sculpture. "Aito, go get us some water."

"Sure!" With a smile, Aito ran off looking for Mio, the maid.

With desolate eyes, Masaki watched the boy depart.

"Ren? You won't be seeing him for a while..." Sighing, Masaki put on a defeated expression as he sat on the veranda, his feet on the garden bellow. Resting his elbows on his thighs, Masaki's hair hanged down as he watched an ant make its way underneath the wood.

Noticing the old man's unusual demeanor, Jun frowned. Had something happened to Ren?
