Chapter 5 Humiliation

The hospital wasn't an option anymore. Even though the burns on her back were still hurting, she didn't have the money to pay for the bills. In a hurry, Jessica changed into her own clothes and prepared to leave to find a job.

But with her criminal record, finding a good job proved to be difficult. After searching all day, she came up empty-handed. Whenever anyone found out she was a convicted murderer, she was met with looks of contempt and disgust.

Just as she was feeling completely hopeless and unsure of where she would even sleep that night, Sophia Wilson found her.

Sophia used to be her best friend, but they lost touch when Jessica insisted on marrying William against everyone's wishes. Jessica never expected Sophia to find her now of all times.

"Do you regret it?" asked Sophia as she stood in front of her, cold and distant.

Jessica shook her head. The only other person who knew the truth about what happened that night besides herself was Sophia. But even if she could turn back time, she would still make the same choice.

"Have you given up on him?" Sophia asked again.

Jessica knew Sophia was asking about her love for William. She remained silent for a moment, then nodded gently.

To love him? She no longer had the right to do so.

Sophia finally threw herself at her, tears streaming out like crazy, all falling on her.

"I hope it's true," Sophia said, word by word, with all her might. "Jessica, welcome back."

Jessica hugged her back as if she had returned from another world, nodding gently and saying, "Okay." She was back, but she was no longer the same person she used to be.

With the help of Sophia, Jessica found a job as a waitress at a nightclub.

If it had been in the past, she would never have been able to handle this kind of work, but then, as long as it was for survival, she could endure any hardship, any fatigue, even deliberate provocation from customers.

For example, at that moment, when she was delivering wine to a high-end private room, she stumbled on a pair of feet that suddenly appeared at the door and spilled all the red wine on the tray. She fell down with a stumble.

"Hahaha --" Immediately, a burst of laughter erupted from the private room. "See? I told you it was Jessica, you guys didn't believe me!"

When Jessica struggled to stand up while enduring the pain, almost all the eyes in the private room gathered on her.

At a glance, Jessica recognized the famous socialites and wealthy young masters in New York City, and the person who tripped her was Andrew Mason, the young master of the Mason family who had pursued her in the past but was harshly humiliated by her because he was flirtatious.

At that moment, Andrew had a smirk on his face as he walked towards her with a meaningful look and said, "Ms. Taylor of the Taylor Group, with your beauty, piano and painting skills. It's said that a single painting of yours has sold for a sky-high price. You're someone who looks down on everyone except for William. Who would believe that you've fallen so low as to work as a waitress at a nightclub?"

Realizing that Andrew intended to humiliate her and seek revenge for their past, Jessica decided to leave and apologized, "Sorry to interrupt you." She clenched her lips, still feeling the pain from the hard fall, and turned to leave.

Unexpectedly, Andrew was quick to grab her and said, "Ms. Taylor, where are you rushing to? Aren't you here to deliver drinks? Now that the drinks have spilled, what are we supposed to drink?"

Jessica then looked at the mess on the ground and was momentarily speechless.

"If I remember correctly, I ordered a 1982 Lafite just now --" Andrew chuckled, "Before going to jail, Ms. Taylor also enjoyed drinking red wine. You should know better than anyone the price of these bottles combined."

With just one sentence, Jessica's face turned white as a sheet.
