Raziel was confused, "Even if what you sensed was correct, why didn't you arrest him?"
Maya chuckled, "There's no enough evidence to bring him in. Besides, I'm doing you a favor, remember?
"If we bring him in, you can't use him to advance."
Raziel leaned forward, "So how are we going to catch him?"
Maya stood up from her seat, "We will go to Zach's house next and speak with his wife. His wife is his alibi, if it holds then Zach is not our perpetrator."
Raziel stood up and then left the cafe together. Raziel said to her as they were leaving the cafe, "If Zach is the culprit, he could have threatened his wife to verify his alibi."
Maya agreed with him, "I know but we're not going there to check out his alibi. We're only using it as a pretext to going through his house."
Maya took out a file from her bag to look for Zach's wife number. She passed it to Raziel and asked him to dial it.
Raziel dialed the number on his phone but it was switched off. He found it suspicious. There's always been constant power supply in Nicaorh since that disaster happened. He showed Maya that the number wasn't going through.
Maya frowned, "That's very suspicious. Okay, I'll text someone in the police department to track her phone and tell us where she is." Maya sent her text to someone detailing her request.
The two of them stood in silence under the shade of a tree nearby waiting for a response. About ten minutes later, Maya received a reply. She read it and said to Raziel, "Zach's wife ID was last used outside of Tenebren in a travel bus but her phone is currently in Tenebren. Now that is very suspicious."
Raziel spoke with worry, "Zach is looking more suspicious now. I hope nothing is wrong with his wife."
Maya waved a cab down, "We're going to his house now! Get in!"
Raziel followed behind her and they boarded the cab. Maya told the cab driver to take them the nearest subway. Five minutes later, they were walking into a metro station.
Raziel looked around, "Where is this place?"
Maya pointed at a sign, "Commeo Metro station. It's a faster way of getting to Park Avenue."
Maya bought two tickets for both of them and they boarded the train. A few minutes after the train started moving, Raziel dozed off.
Maya woke up Raziel up and pulled him off the train, "Why the fuck did you doze off?"
Raziel rubbed his puffy eyes. He didn't realise he had slept off, "How long was I out?"
Maya checked her watch, "I think about an hour. We've reached Park Avenue. Let's get out of the subway and take a cab to Zach's house."
They boarded a cab to Zach's house, it was only five minutes away from the metro station. When they alighted from the cab, Raziel said to her, "We did not consider the fact that Zach might be using the subway to get to his victim's house."
Maya started to find her way to his house, "If he used the subway, he would have been caught. Besides, our only witness saw him getting into a cat with the first victim."
Maya knocked on the front door of Zach's house but there was no answer. She used her powers to control the metallic lock of the door and opened it.
Raziel raised his eyebrows. Maya had a very refined control of her powers. He followed behind her into the house. It was a two bedroom apartment. They were met with a clean sitting room.
The two of them walked silently and went through all the rooms. The rooms were devoid of life. Maya walked to Zach's bed and sniffed the air, "I can smell blood. Help me push this bed aside."
Raziel came to Maya's side and helped push the bed to the side. They saw an hatch underneath where the bed was. Raziel punched the door and bursted it wide open.
He looked inside to see a woman tied inside with a lips shut. Maya spoke with anger, "That son of a bitch! That's Zach's wife! To think he was acting like a holy man in the church earlier."
Raziel jumped in and broke her bindings. He checked for a pulse on her neck, "She's still alive."
He carried her and jumped out of the compartment. He laid her on the sofa in the sitting room and gave her water. He looked at Maya, "Should we call an ambulance?"
Maya shook her head, "No!"
