So painful were those moments When the earth shook and the seas rose How cheerful life could stand still As though everything was killed All the happiness gone once for all That seemed to me a painful fall Everything I knew wiped away All I could hear was the deafening silence All I could feel was emptiness As if everything was shrouded in darkness All I could hear was my sister crying in madness Adapted from Farah Sherazi's Destruction, Death and Decay.

Chapter 3: Loss of Control

Raziel looked up from his bed in their

parent's house that was still standing after the disaster to the wall clock. The time is 6am. He has to go to work since the weekend is over already. His life has been on repetition since they lost their parents to the disaster. He wakes up early in the morning and goes to work everyday except on Saturdays and Sundays. He works as a teacher in a secondary school. He had to drop out of college since they had no money to support him through college. He had been an anatomy student in college.

He went to the bathroom to freshen up and then went downstairs only to meet his sister waiting for him downstairs. This was a first. After they lost their parent to the disaster, his sister had nearly lost her mind. He had been the one taking of the her. Every money he makes was spent on both of them since she doesn't even leave the house. "Good morning." she said. "What's so good about this morning that you woke up before me?" Raziel replied. She smiled and said, "I know you're angry with me because I've been doing nothing about our situation but trust me, everything you leave for work, I've been finding ways for us to leave this country that hunts people like us down." Raziel picked up a slice of bread from their dining table and asked with a scoff, "What do you mean?" Vivian replied with a dreamy look, "I've found a country where people like us are the one in the government. No is hunting us down. People like us who stepped onto the major pathways are the majority. I can develop my vampire powers easily and you can do anything you want with your cosmic powers." Raziel sat on a sofa and asked, "Even if this country of yours existed, how do we get there?" Vivian looked down and said, "I've used the rest of our parent's money and I also took all the money you've been saving in the ceiling to book us both a passage." Raziel shouted with full force and unintentionally blasted his sister with cosmic energy which appeared in a form of golden lightening, "But I had plans for that money." Vivian seems to have had a premonition and moved aside to dodge the lightening strike. The lightening strike brought down the sitting room wall which led to the compromise of the structural integrity of their house. The whole house was starting to come down. Vivian ran at insane speed of 50km/hr, grabbed Raziel and jumped out of the house before it came crashing down on them.
