The guy that spoke had a mask covering half his face, and he was bald, he wore his forehead protector on his left hand and looked to be in charge of them; many other jonin surrounded him.
"My name is Yuto Kimura and I am your proctor for this test,
From here on, you will follow the rules I set for this class and you will not question my authority.
First things first, there will be no fighting unless permission from me and my colleagues, and if you endanger a student's life in any way you'll be disqualified immediately, no second chances, Do I make myself clear?!"
Everyone looked at each other and nodded.
"Turn in your application forms and take one of these seating assignment cards." We took them, Kakashi and Obito sat in front of me and I sat near Tazumi.
"Now that everyone is seated, take these papers they're your written test and the first part of the chunin exams."
Many people looked worried.
"There are rules you must follow for this test, number one
Each one of you starts with ten points, the test has ten questions worth one point from each question you get, wrong we subtract a point from you, get all ten right, and you keep the points.
But for example, you answer three questions incorrectly; we take your points, subtract one point for every wrong answer, and your total drops to seven.
Rule number two, this written test is a team event, passing or failing will be determined by the sum of the points held by all three members of each team.
Once he said that people started getting scared and nervous, they looked at their teammates.
"The next part is important, so listen carefully.
Rule 3, if during the test a candidate does anything out of the ordinary, in other words, anything that leads me or the other proctors to determine you're cheating, we will subtract two points out of every member's team."
"Gulp!" Ryuu looked beside him and saw Tazumi shivering.
"Oh, and one last thing, if any individual loses all ten points of his or her points that person's entire team will be disqualified, it doesn't matter how well they do, you have one hour, Begin!"
Ryuu quickly went through the entire paper and started smiling.
"This is easy." He said to himself.
He quickly finished the test in 10 minutes, he wrote so fast even someone with a Sharingan would lose track, then he put his hand up.
One of the Jonins came up to me.
"What do you want?" He asked.
"What do I do when I'm finished with the paper?" He took my paper and read through it, his eyes were widening, then he took it to the proctor.
"What is it?" Yuto-sama, that boy over there, he's already done with the paper and is asking what he should do."
He snatched the paper from his hands.
"Impossible, was he cheating?" He shook his head.
"He even finished with a perfect score, impressive." He held his head and started thinking.
"Tell him to wait for the others."
He nodded and headed back to Ryuu.
"So? What should I do?" I asked.
He slammed the paperback at my table.
"He said to stay seated and wait for the others." Ryuu slapped himself.
"I should've given them a head start, now I'm bored." He said.
30 minutes passed and Ryuu had distracted himself by throwing his pencil around, he snapped it in half and threw it in different places; he used his Sharingan to see where they were going, then he would hit them back into his hand.
Many people had been caught cheating, and their teammates followed.
"40 minutes have passed, now that we've gotten rid of some dead weight, it's time for the 10th and final question."
Everyone put their pens down.
"Now that we've reached this far, it's time for me to add a new rule,
This rule is absolute, you choose whether to accept or refuse the 10th question." Everyone looked at each other.
"What happens if you refuse to answer it?!" Tazumi asked.
"If you don't answer the tenth question, you will lose all your points immediately and you will fail, bringing down your teammates with you."
The entire room felt intense, I could hear everywhere saliva as everyone gulped in fear.
"Then why would anyone refuse that question?!" Tazumi asked.
Yuto smirked and put his hand in his pockets.
"Because of the other option, if you try the next question and get it wrong, you will never be permitted to take the chunin exams ever again."
Just as he finished that, I could feel Everyone tensing up.
"But that's nonsense!" Tazumi shouted as he slammed his fist on the table.
"Hmph, too bad for you, then." He nonchalantly said.
"Anyone who has doubts should leave now, don't waste our time, come back next year or the year after that, and so on, anyway, those of you who decide to quit now and try later to raise their hands and leave."
Everyone glanced at each other.
"I quit! I'm sorry but I can't do this, I won't risk my comrade's career like that." Some guy said before leaving and handing in their paper, he wasn't the only one many others did as well.
"Is this it? All of you who remain are sure about this?"
Ryuu raised his hand.
Everyone stared at him they were all shocked.
"You?! You want to quit?!"
He asked while his eyes widened.
Ryuu shook his head.
"Can I go to the toilet?" He asked.
The proctor's face froze up, he was shocked and so were the other people.
"It's just, you said no questions while we were doing the exams, but you didn't say so when you started talking about the 10th question."
A tick appeared on his head, he slapped himself.
"Those who remain, I'll ask one more time, are you sure you've made the right choice?"
He looked around. It seemed I disappointed him in me.
"Well done, you've all passed!" He said, and all the pressure in the room quickly turned to excitement and relief.
"Wait, but what happened to the 10th question?" Obito asked.
"The truth is, there was no tenth question beyond the whole' accept or reject thing." He said as he leaned on the wall.
"Then why did we waste time on all those other questions?!" Tazumi frustratedly.
"Our target was to test your abilities at spying." Tazumi had a confused look on his face.
"Didn't you guys hear what he said in the beginning, he said we pass or fail as a team, with that he made us doubt our every move and pressured us, and made us think everything we did was wrong and could endanger our teammates."
Ryuu said as he kept on playing with his pen.
Yuto nodded.
"Exactly, although the questions given were beyond the level of a regular genin so most of you had only one way of getting points and that's by cheating, however, there was only one person who didn't cheat and yet only one of you didn't, and surprisingly he got a perfect score and finished the exam in record time."
Everyone looked at Ryuu.
"Hehehe."
He just chuckled and continued playing with his pen.
"Of course, anyone could know all this, it was so obvious we're not idi- "Obito got cut out as Ryuu hit him with his pen.
"Anyway, we would only disqualify those who cheated in obvious ways, because there could be consequences in being caught by the enemies, especially during the war."
He said as he removed his coat; he lost one arm and the other one had missing fingers and his face had been burned.
"I'd hate to be the other guy."
Ryuu's joke caused a slight chuckle from the others, but Yuto was unimpressed and so was Kakashi, he threw his pen and caused it to deflect off Ryuu's and hit his head.
"You'll pay in many painful ways where you will wish for anything just for the pain to stop."
Everyone stared back at Yuto in horror.
"If you bring back information from a suspect source or a compromised mission, you're doing your enemy's jobs for them, learn that and learn that well, that's why we forced you into using covert techniques to cheat, it was the easiest way to find out which students lacked the skill to pass."
Everyone looked at each other confused, then they turned their heads to Ryuu, Ryuu was barely listening.
"Basically, if we all got promoted to chunin and we were told to go on a mission in enemy territory with no knowledge of traps skills or if they were prepared for us,
Would you accept the mission or not?
No chunin can go with only taking safe jobs, no matter how dangerous the risks, there will be plenty of missions where you'll have to take a risk and can't decline, a ninja must inspire valor that inspire those around him helping them to overcome their fear."
He nodded as Ryuu spoke.
"Exactly, this is the most important part of being a chunin, those who can't gamble their lives, who don't take chances, are weaklings who break easily and only make weak decisions they don't belong in the ranks if chunin at all and should reconsider being a ninja.
By choosing to accept, you solved a riddle correctly, if you keep that spirit up, you can conquer whatever doubt or fear you have in future circumstances, now you've passed the first part of the chunin exams."
"Knock knock knock"
Someone knocked on the door, Ryuu felt his chakra for a long time.
"Come in!" He entered, and as soon as he entered the door, the room became intense once again.
"You?!" Yuto sounded kind of concerned.
"My my, you've taken a lot of them out already, you should've left some for me."
It was Orochimaru, he's the proctor for the next test.
