Daily life

(Pov Osha)

Osha opened her eyes lying on a fluffy mattress of feather-stuffed furs.

The fire in the fireplace was still keeping the room warm, so it took her four attempts to finally get out of bed.

She slept naked, but since the only window in the room, as well as the door was closed, there were no drafts to disturb her.

Osha got up from the warm shelter, put on a long woolen nightgown, and over it, a pair of pants and a leather vest, and finally put on a wolf-skin coat that she had made herself in the workshop from furs given to her by her father.

She sat down on the bed again while she put on a pair of white rabbit fur gloves and detailed her surroundings to get rid of the last remnants of drowsiness.

Osha loved this room, the ermine fur bed was soft, large, and comfortable, she had 3 pillows stuffed with feathers and for cover, she had a thick wolf fur blanket.

There was a desk with paper, ink, and a paintbrush that she had used every night to practice writing and a small library with several dozen books, Osha had read them too during the nights, they were the same books that were in the tribe's school, but she knew that these books were the first versions that Blake kept in his room, where she was currently staying, and then he made copies to leave at school.

These books Blake had called them guides, because that was exactly what they did, they told the process you had to follow to do a variety of things. There were books on how to make paper, make inks and make brushes, how work furs, make gloves, hats and cloaks, how to build a house, make a door or a fireplace. There was so much more, all explained in detail.

Osha's feet touched the floor as she stood up from the bed, the floor was not warm, but it was comfortable for her feet because covering the whole floor of the room were bear skins, woven in such a way that there was not a single gap where the wood could be seen.

Besides these things, the room had no ostentatious ornaments, such as reindeer ornaments or bear heads, things that warriors and hunters used to place on the walls of their huts. There was only a wooden chest where Blake kept his clothes.

Remembering Blake, Osha flashed a smile of triumph.

Blake had been a gloomy and ghostly-looking boy for as long as she could remember, so even though he gave most of the orders within the tribe, and held the highest rank within the tribe, no one was too fond of him.

They respected Blake's presence and followed his orders, as Blake had proven himself to be smart and trustworthy he was more than just smart, it was said that Blake had all the knowledge in the world, that he was born with the gift and their was nothing he didn't know how to do.

She had heard him talk for hours in school while teaching, and that rumor seemed true, as Blake always had something to teach. And it was because of that, and his ability to manage food, that most of the tribe respected him and avoided antagonizing him.

But these things changed when the Ice-river clans attacked the second settlement of the tribe.

Many warriors and hunters were protecting the second settlement, but the Ice-river clans attack was said to number in the thousands, so she had thought that her older brother, who had been placed to protect the second settlement, had died.

At that time the Magnar Oswin was not in the tribe, but that did not matter too much, for Blake took charge of the tribe's warriors and marched without any hesitation, in support of the second settlement.

Everyone in the tribe doubted that this would be enough, as Blake was too young to command the men, the only reason they harbored a sliver of hope that these reduced reinforcements could stop the Ice-river clans was because experienced warriors like Cam and Wymond had left as well.

The news they received after that went from good to better.

Blake had arrived in time to rescue the wounded still holding out in the fortress, and used his army to march on the Ice-river clans' settlements, destroying them completely and taking their women as part of the tribe.

He had proven himself to be a great warrior, and that was something that members of the tribe respected.

Osha looked at the beautifully carved Weirwood tree on a table in the room, she had cared for it as if it were her greatest treasure, cleaning it with a brush so that it would not gather dust.

It was the moment he handed it to her that Osha decided she wanted to become Blake's wife.

Osha looked down at her nonexistent tits, sighed, and walked out of the room.

After leaving, she placed firewood inside the stove and heated water in a large bronze pot, and then placed the water in a huge wooden bathtub, two meters long. It took her four trips to heat enough water to fill the tub halfway.

She was staying at Blake's house and even slept in his room, but she had chores to do, one of which was to help bathe Ygritte every three days.

When she finished, she went to fetch Ygritte to her room.

Ygritte's room was a copy of Blake's room, the only difference being that Ygritte had a lot of toys and wooden carvings on shelves and lying on the floor.

"Ygritte, it's morning, get up for a bath, the water is ready."

"MHHMM!"

The girl, just like her a while ago, wrapped herself more in the sheets, sheltering from the cold.

"Come on, if we take too long the water will get cold and we won't make it in time for breakfast."

Osha pulled Ygritte out from between the sheets, as the latter moaned, placing her in the tub of hot water to subsequently undress and get in as well.

The tub was big enough for both of them to take a bath, and it was a waste to miss the opportunity to take a nice hot bath like this.

"I want to eat chicken..."

Ygritte said to a half-asleep as Osha washed her hair with soap.

Unlike the strong smelling black soap that the cooks gave to the tribe, the soap at Blake's house was yellow, and had citrus scents, something she also enjoyed very much, as she loved to move her hair and have those smells reach her nose.

Osha finished washing Ygritte and washing herself before getting out of the tub.

She dried Ygritte and covered her with a wool blanket while she reached for one of her sets of the girl's clothes.

Ygritte had a lot of clothes, too many, she had 9 complete sets, some white some grey, and some black. Osha chose the white bearskin robes and dressed Ygritte in them.

"I'm hungry, let's go get breakfast and ask Eden to fry us in oil chicken legs!"

Osha combed Ygritte's hair as she listened to her.

"Don't get Eden in too much trouble, last time she almost got whipped thinking she had stolen food when she was giving it to you."

"What has she got? Blake said I could order whatever I wanted while he was gone, you always ask for an extra glass of milk."

Osha scrunched up her face but didn't answer.

The cause of this went back to Blake's arrival at the tribe after the war.

Osha had decided to become Blake's wife but had encountered many problems in doing so.

Chief among them was that she had gained a lot of competition overnight.

She thought there would be no one else interested in him, just like before, but it was quite the opposite, many of the younger spear women Blake captured from the Ice-river clans now hovered around him all day, made advances, and pursued him.

Many of the women were as beautiful as they were strong. They didn't care what Blake looked like, only that he was strong, rich, and had great status, some were frightened of his mystic arts, but others just took even more initiative.

Osha had been completely outclassed before she started by these women, unlike them, her appearance was average, she was young, her back had been widened by her archery practice and her breasts were as flat as a man's.

She had done everything she could to look her best, she bathed constantly to keep her skin looking clean, washed her two sets of robes every week so as not to smell bad, brushed her hair every day, and cleaned her teeth with a boar hair brush and a charcoal paste also offered by the cooks.

In addition to this, she had attended all of Blake's classes, sitting in the front row trying to stand out, worked both in the kitchens and in the workshop, which was where Blake spent the most time, and thanks to her father Cam found out that Blake was learning to hunt and joined him on a few occasions.

But time passed, the time came for her to blossom, and still, her tits remained completely flat.

It was said among the tribe, that a woman without tits could not breastfeed her children properly, and in the advice she asked most of the women of the tribe, including her mother, they replied that her tits would grow after she had a child.

She did not give up even with this, and asked the person in question, who seemed to know everything about this world, for advice on how to grow her boobs.

Osha laughed a little as she remembered Blake's quizzical face when she asked the question, there were already a few occasions when Blake's facial expression changed, and those moments were reserved for when she met Ygritte or Oswin.

Blake had replied that he did not know of a magic method to make a young girl's tits grow, but he advised her to eat plenty of food, drink lots of goat's milk and massage her breasts before going to sleep, and that perhaps by doing so every day she could increase the size of her tits somewhat before the end of her teenage years when most women stopped growing.

Osha decided to follow his advice, she liked the feeling of massaging her breasts, but despite doing it and drinking lots of goat's milk, her tits were still as flat as a boy's, something that made her as angry with herself as with Blake himself.

How could he not notice all of her approaches? She was about to give up on more than one occasion, to accept one of the young tribal hunters who had proposed to her, and the only reason she kept trying to approach him was that Blake had not only ignored her but all the girls who tried the same thing.

Blake was like a piece of ice, he wouldn't let any of them get too close, and this only increased when one of the more fearless spear women of the Men of the Frozen Shore tried to forcefully assault him.

If the men could kidnap a maiden to make her their wife, why couldn't they? That's what the girl had said, Blake took on several of the women's tasks anyway.

However, her attempt had been unsuccessful, Blake had stopped her very easily, and then, stressing that assaults were forbidden within the tribe, had sent her to work in the quarries for a month to think things over.

When Magnar Oswin learned of the matter, he laughed at Blake for a long time, and he sent for the girl from the quarries before the day was out, naming her as a tribal warrior for her bravery.

However, at the end of the day, it was she whom Blake called upon while he was away from the tribe to look after the house, as warriors' wives did when they went out. She was to take care of Ygritte, and in large part, she had been chosen because her father Cam was very close to Blake, but that didn't matter, a victory was a victory.

Osha watched Ygritte as she fed a pair of snow hares that were in a cage inside the house, and then they left the house for the dining room.

It was late afternoon, and the dining rooms were crowded with tribesmen looking for breakfast.

"We're going to be a long time eating like this, let's go to the kitchens!"

"That's why I told you to get up quickly in the morning."

Ygritte looked annoyed at the dining rooms and they walked straight to the kitchens as Osha scolded her.

The kitchens were restricted to everyone in the tribe except for the cooks, but no one stopped them as they entered the largest building and watched two dozen women plucking chickens and skinning rabbits for breakfast.

As most of the time, today's stew would be one part chicken and rabbit meat, one part vegetables, and two parts mushrooms, with salt and some wild herbs to enhance the flavor.

This stew made the best use of the tribe's resources and filled stomachs for the long day.

"Eden, give us some food, today I want a fried chicken thigh!"

Ygritte ran up to a short, big-cheeked woman who seemed to always be smiling.

"Ygritte, you skipped the line at the canteens again, Osha, you're supposed to take care of her!"

The woman stopped chopping the vegetables and put her hands on her hips scolding them both.

"I try, but in the end she'll do what she wants, only Blake and Oswin can control her."

Osha shrugged off the scolding.

"Come on Eden, Osha and I are very late and the dining halls are packed, please, I'm very hungry!"

Osha watched as the woman sighed and shook her head, but easily agreed to the requests after a couple of urgings from Ygritte, and in a few minutes two bowls of stew, a chicken thigh fried in oil until crispy and two glasses of milk were in front of them.

"Eat here, I don't want the tribesmen to see you and spread rumors."

They sat at the table where the cooks ate, which was in a corner of the building, next to the barrels where bones, fat and used eggshells were kept.

While Osha was apprenticed in the kitchens, she learned what all these scraps were kept for, the bones and fat were used to make glue and fertilizer, and the eggs were crushed and given back to the hens with a meat mixture every few days so that they would continue laying eggs during the winter.

Osha ate the stew, exchanged her chicken thigh for Ygritte's glass of milk, and they both finished eating.

"Let's go feed Whitey's chicks and the other birds."

When they left, there were still people eating in the dining halls, and they walked to a corner of the tribe where the eagle and owl cages were.

The cages consisted of a concrete wall and roof, supported by 2 columns, around them were wooden gates that prevented the birds from escaping.

"Ygritte? Let me move the birds to another cage so you can feed the chicks."

A short man, with a sharp nose like an eagle and matted black hair, at the mere sight of Ygritte, walked toward one of the cages and Osha wondered, if Duk, as he was called, had ever washed his hair since the winter began.

"Even if you don't feed them, their mother will give them food, you know?"

Osha sat back as she watched Ygritte put ground meat in each chick's mouth.

"Blake said, if we let mom feed them, she will only give meat to the bigger chicks, leaving the others to starve, if we do it they can all live."

The girl responded by furrowing her eyebrows, Osha was very amused by these reactions from Ygritte, she was very stubborn and she firmly believed that things should be done exactly as her brother Blake ordered them to be done.

The reason Eden did what Ygritte asked was partly because she was Oswin's daughter and Blake's sister, the second reason was because Ygritte caught her licking her fingers while making food.

Ygritte, who knew the rules of the kitchen, ordered her to be spanked 3 times, Eden had been angry with Ygritte because of this, but Ygritte was so cheeky that every time she went to the kitchen she always asked for things from her, and eventually, she could do nothing but obey her.

After that, they went to the stables to play with the calves, foals, and lambs.

There were lots of goats, sheep, and Aurochs, with a smaller number of horses, boars, and reindeer. There were also 4 huge Oxen that the Night's Watch had brought on the last visit, her father said, were a gift from Denys Mallister, brought from the river lands.

To Osha, they looked like Aurochs, only bigger, hairier, and more foolish.

They left the stables to go to the training yard.

There was a group of warriors training the phalanxes, and her father was the one teaching the class on this occasion.

They were doing repetitive movements, changing positions, raising shields, marching, and repeating.

She had trained in the beginning as well, she was very good with the spear according to the trainers.

They both passed the warriors and went to the archery range.

Ygritte took a shortbow, while she took a longbow, and they practiced with targets at 10, 15, and 30 meters.

Osha helped Ygritte in her stance throughout the practice that lasted several hours, and when her arms burned with pain, they finished the practice to go to the dining rooms where dinner was already being prepared.

They arrived early and were served immediately, dinner was a hot fish soup, excellent for warming up the body after being outside in the courtyard all day.

After that, they went to the school, which was attended by several of the tribe members, where they taught a class following one of the guides written by Blake.

It was not as simple as saying what was written in the book, whoever gave the class had to know the content, for example, if the class was about hunting, whoever gave the class was an experienced hunter, if the class was about how to make a house, the class was given by a builder who had made several houses, and if the class was about reading and writing, the class was given by someone who knew how to read and write very well.

In this way dozens of members of the tribe took turns teaching classes, all expounding their knowledge to the younger ones according to the arrangement made by Blake.

That day's class was given jointly by a warrior and a builder, who taught how to make a shelter if they were caught in a snowstorm in the middle of the forest.

There must have been at least 3 hundred people filling the huge building where classes were held.

"Let's go to the workshop, we couldn't go today!"

Ygritte said when the class was over as she munched on a piece of freshly baked bread, bread was a luxury reserved for those who attended the classes, and the celebrations Oswin sometimes gave.

Ygritte's face showed the tiredness and sleepiness of a busy day, but the girl refused to go home, wanting to continue having some more fun.

Osha thought for a moment about how to convince her to return, looked at the sky, and said.

"Can you see to the red thief?"

Ygritte looked up at the sky, nodding.

"The lady(moon) is right above him. This is the best time for men to abduct girls, if we are dragged into some hut without a warrior being able to see it, we will get into a lot of trouble, it is better to go home with the group that left the class."

Osha said in a leisurely voice.

"They wouldn't dare, Blake forbade abductions, if they did, they'd lose their heads tomorrow!"

Ygritte furrowed her eyebrows, saying what Blake had taught her.

"Little girl, never underestimate a man, especially when they're horny, they can do something crazy even if it means they're dead, that's what my mother told me. Besides, they may not do anything to you since you are so small, but I am different, can you walk me home to keep me safe?"

Ygritte looked at Osha for a few seconds and finally nodded.

"It's okay, I don't want another man to take you and have children either, I want to stay with you until Blake returns."

Osha smiled at the girl's words, taking her arm back home.

*******************************

This chapter was quite difficult for me to write because it's from a girl's perspective, and I read some of the chapters sansa, arya and Daenerys to get some inspiration, I think it lacks work, but I'm two days into it so I'll post it now, maybe later I'll make some corrections and add more material, and as always, if you see any spelling mistake leave it in a comment and I'll fix it later, since I've messed up a lot with it.
