A New Possibility For Better Or Worse?

(Death POV)

There has been an awakening, a change in the tides. And an anomaly in the order of life and death.

Someone who should have died has returned; such a thing is not uncommon in this Multiverse, but this one is different. His soul was marked by another Death God from a foreign Multiverse, but before I could investigate, I saw what Lucifer had done, and I saw how the change occurred.

A new soul amongst the endless eternities has entered this place, but now, as I saw him enter his body, his eyes reflected a fractured psyche. It was an inevitable conclusion after entering the source and seeing all the information the Multiverse had to offer, for in there he saw all the beginnings, ends, and new possibilities.

While many believe in the Multiverse theory, none can truly understand the scope by which every Earth is created, but for now, she watched as the Multiverse was confined to 52 universes thanks to the anti-monitor and the crisis. Oh, that was such a time when she had to deal with so many souls.

While a majority of them were destroyed by the antimatter wave, a decent few of them died before, and having to deal with Millions upon billions of different worlds being snuffed out at once was definitely not very enjoyable. While I am Death and I will see the beginning and end of everything, such a reckless loss of life is still disappointing, to say the least.

There is so little to occupy the attention of an endless. It is why destruction left his post, and the others are scattered to the winds dealing with their own individual duties. Yet I felt movements from Dream as he began to manipulate the dreams of that same mortal. I could not understand what made him different as I still saw the same broken being that had existed since the beginning of history.

Unlike Destiny, I could not see his fate nor, for some reason, perceive his death, and while such beings exist like the Presence and his "other," few others have such a lack of auspicious signs. His soul was untouchable to me as when I tried to reach for it, I felt myself being stopped by unseen hands, and after trying to reach him through other means, they simply bounced off of him.

Dream protects his mind while those strange concoctions of the Multiverse protect his soul and his existence from being even grazed by other forces. Other than that, I could see his soul being conjoined by others: an assassin, a spy, a virus, and more. Such a combination of souls should not be possible without the body imploding and the mind being left an utter and shattered mess.

Luckily for the mortal, no one else could notice this Soul Fusion he was doing unless they had the power of an endless or above, and even then, I could not touch it. What possessed the Multiverse or a being of that magnitude to gift him with such potential?

Looking to my realm of endless death, I saw that my day as a mortal was coming up and hoped that this mortal survived long enough to be graced by the presence of death.

"Keep living, anomaly, and we shall have words." My voice echoes through the realm as I watch this mortal in his world while also dealing with Lucifer slacking off with souls again.

How the Presence can have such a lazy son is beyond me.

(Nathan POV)

I just got chills. Why is that?

No matter, it must be nothing or a sign that I have attracted the wrong type of attention, and knowing DC, it is the latter. I'm going to have to prepare something in case it is the letter. But for now, I need to think of how I'm going to proceed with this mission as I recognize these symbols. I dare not even say his name out loud lest that demon notices me.

The symbol in this dossier is that of Trigon the Terrible, the multiversal conquering demon lord. Essentially, the Darkseid of hell conquers worlds for fun, power, riches, and maybe followers.

He is a demon that has conquered over a thousand worlds, and regardless of the continuity, he has always remained at a very high level of strength, requiring the likes of Doctor Fate, his daughter Raven, and the Teen Titans or the Justice League to barely combat him.

This is a cult set up in his name. It may be led by one of his other children, or maybe they simply found some information regarding him and tried to summon a demon to see if they may gain power and riches. What's worse is that it may actually be possible because the place they're doing it is the home of the Salem witch trials, and the amount of negative energy there may be enough to summon an aspect of him similar to how Darkseid manifests.

"You seem tense. Are you prepared for this mission?" Cheshire asks as she follows me onto the plane that will take us to Salem, to which I close the folder and hand it to her.

"We are dealing with possible demon worshipers, so I am a bit tense." Cheshire seems to think little of this, but before she can say anything to the contrary, I reply.

"And before you say the demons are not real, let it be known that I have met the witch boy, a literal Lord Of Chaos. So yes, the possibility of a demon summoning in a populated area may be a bit much." The girl only shrugs as we enter the plane and then take off.

It would take ten hours to fly there directly, which gives me enough time to meditate on the dark side, which, while dangerous, has provided a new benefit. Ever since coming here, I have felt a bit muted, to say the least, and the Force has been able to grant me parts of myself back. I'll be it slowly, and while the emotions are darker in nature, it is something.

So, after taking a seat on the floor, I breathe in and focus on the wider universe but also myself as the dark side favors those who value personal gain and acceptance of passion in contrast to the light, which favors those who detach themselves from material things.

There were outliers for those who simply followed the will of the living Force rather than the innate emotions connected to the Force, like Qui Gon Jin, but they were too few to make a difference.

So again, I return to the Force as Cheshire sits opposite to me and simply watches me while asking, "It's impressive how you are able to get meditation down so quickly as many spend days trying to sit still. Others fall asleep when doing it due to the stillness, so may I ask what you are meditating on?"

"Clarity of purpose and goals, my emotions going into a mission to murder, and why you chose to volunteer for this." The last one gets what looks like a smirk as she answers.

"Well, Sportsmaster was not available as he's on another mission, so the league sent me to assist you." I almost scoff at the blatant falsehoods of that statement.

"Well, maybe I should feel honored that you volunteered. It really shows you care about me." My sarcasm is strong with me as she narrows her eyes at me.

"You really should feel honored as I have been training for years for a mission, and you have only been training for 15 days. So, I consider it my duty to show you the ropes." Yes, to hang me with if I betray the light, but such things are not mentioned out loud.

"This flight is going to last 10 hours based on our current speed, so shall we return barbs with each other, or shall we converse?" I ask as she sits in a chair while spinning in it.

"Well, what do you recommend, new guy, 20 questions? I believe both of us will not answer those questions honestly. But should I feel threatened to be alone with you for ten hours?" I breathe heavily to keep my concentration.

"Remember what I said before. Do not play with fire, Cheshire." She then chuckles as she sits down right in front of me and begins to graze her fingers on my arm, which reach up to my cloth mask covering my face other than my eyes. To which I grip them, and as she tries to get her hand out, I do not let go.

The decent amount of biomass I have been able to eat, thanks to the food I've been given, has made the density of my muscles a decent amount stronger, and I await having the chance to devour the entire biomass of a person. The more curious part of me wonders how it feels like, and with my current assimilation progress, this mission will be a boon for me as long as no demons show up.

But in case that happens, I have my Black Keys, which are essentially conceptual knives used to dispel demons and Unholy entities, but finding an aria to use them will be troublesome.

I can't simply copy that rather "innocent" priest, as no chant is the same. Each chant is a reflection of the soul and of the origin of the person, and even now, I can sense the beginning of something forming within my soul, a small ball of something.

It would be nice to have the ability to access unlimited blade works, but it will most likely be different, considering my general being is entirely different from Archer's. So, as Cheshire continues to try to get out of my grip, I wait for her to lose balance and pull her closer with her mask against my own. In her eyes, I see a small trace of surprise and another emotion that I can't see.

"Well, it seems like you do have some moves, new guy, but it would be nice to have a face to the blank expression." I shake my head and unhand her as she slowly gets back. When I grabbed her, I noticed she already had a hand on her knife with her other hand, so I let go.

"I don't think you will be able to handle what I have to offer Cheshire, so shall we meditate?" The young woman then sat back down and sheathed her knife as she said.

"For now, but when we land, I'm calling the shots. I don't want Ra's after my head for failing a mission. And also, We don't know if I can't take it unless we try, so keep trying, new guy." I then sighed in exasperation at her conflicting signals, but the silence was enough.

So, with her meditating with me, I opened the gacha for some new items from the daily free gacha, but instead of the normal platform and blue rings, I saw the gacha release falling stars from the sky to form the cards. For some reason, I feel aggravated when I see this; it's like I lost something that I do not remember.
