As soon as the message was sent, Cynthia Shannon immediately received a reply: "See you in twenty minutes."
Seeing the instant reply, Cynthia couldn't help but wonder if he had been waiting for her message all along.
Lily Jonas, noticing Cynthia's absent-mindedness, casually asked, "What are you planning to do about the Louise Corporation?"
"Resign," Cynthia said decisively.
There was nothing worth lingering over with the Louise Family anymore.
If she was going to sever ties, she wanted to do it thoroughly. Procrastination was not her style.
Hearing her words, Lily secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
She had initially been worried that Cynthia would change her mind and be unable to bear it in the end.
Over the years, as an outsider, Lily had witnessed Cynthia's contributions to the Louise Corporation and understood that it was Cynthia's behind-the-scenes assistance that had propelled the Louise Corporation to its current position. Without Cynthia's help, how long could the thriving Louise Corporation maintain its status?
Just as Lily was lost in thought, her phone rang again. Looking at the caller ID, a faint trace of derision appeared at the corner of her eyes.
She had underestimated Joe Louise's persistence. Without any hesitation, she hung up the phone again.
The phone call being cut off again made Joe's expression darken slightly.
The news of the sudden withdrawal of the Jonas Family's investment had reached the company's board of directors, and everyone believed that he had offended the Jonas Family, causing dissatisfaction among the directors.
But as he carefully thought back, he hadn't even seen anyone from the Jonas Family recently, so how could he have offended them?
He urgently wanted to meet with the Jonas Family, to understand the reason behind this, and more importantly, to convince them to reinvest. Half reclined on the hospital bed, Naomi Sweeney, looked at Joe's cold expression and hesitated for a moment. She cautiously spoke up, "Joe, is something wrong?"
"It's nothing," Joe replied absentmindedly.
Naomi's expression turned desolate as she silently shed tears, as if a broken string of beads.
Seeing the tears on her face, Joe's heart clenched. He walked over quickly and gently wiped away the tears from Naomi's face with his fingertips. "Why are you crying? Something wrong?"
"It's all my fault. I can only watch you encounter trouble without being able to help," Naomi nestled in Joe's arms, her delicate hand resting on his chest. "Sometimes, I really envy Cynthia. I envy her intelligence, her methods. If she were by your side now, she would definitely be able to help you."
Hearing Cynthia's name, a trace of annoyance flashed through Joe's heart.
It was as if the people around him were constantly reminding him that he, Joe Louise, was nothing without Cynthia Shannon!
Joe had his own pride deep down, so how could he be willing to live under a woman's shadow?!
But it was indeed Cynthia who had secured this investment from the Jonas Family. Right after Cynthia broke up with him, the Jonas Family suddenly withdrew their investment. This had to make Joe think deeply.
Could it be that Cynthia Shannon was sabotaging him and taking the opportunity to seek revenge?
With this thought in mind, a cold gleam flashed in Joe's eyes.
"You rest well, I'll go talk to Cynthia."
"I'll go with you," Naomi held onto Joe's hand, not waiting for him to refuse, and quickly explained, "Cynthia doesn't have any family here, we should take care of her more."
Joe hesitated for half a second, then nodded. "When you see her later, no matter what she says, don't take it seriously. Rest assured, I'll protect you and ensure that you won't be harmed again."
In his words, he had already regarded Cynthia as a malicious presence.
"Okay," Naomi playfully blinked her eyes and tiptoed to leave a fleeting kiss on the corner of Joe's lips, like a dragonfly touching water.
