The Secretary to the CEO?

Adelina sat patiently in the comfortable chair outside of the CEO's office where Sara had left her.

She was nervous about seeing the CEO again, especially after the unusual interview yesterday.

She glanced around nervously as she waited on pins and needles for her meeting.

She jumped as she heard the door of the CEO's office open.

Adelina put on a brilliant smile as a short man with glasses exited through the large doors.

Harrison gave her a small smile as he approached her.

"Miss Hart I presume? My name is Harrison, I am the personal assistant to the CEO. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance." Harrison greeted the pretty woman, extending his hand.

Adelina quickly grasped his hand and gave a small shake.

"It is nice to meet you as well! You may call me Adelina if you'd like." She smiled.

"Great! Well Adelina, please follow me. I will be handling your contract today." Harrison smiled as he gestured for her to follow him.

Adelina trailed behind Harrison as he showed her to an empty conference room.

He quickly took a seat and waved a hand towards the seat across from him.

Adelina sat down nervously and glanced around the quiet conference room.

She felt nostalgia overcome her. The last time she had been in a conference room like this was when she was still working at her fathers company.

She felt as though she was finally in the place she belonged as she laid her hands neatly on top of the table in front of her, letting the familiar coolness sooth her nerves.

Harrison quickly laid a large packet onto the table before her and plucked a pen from the table as he quickly flipped through the document.

Silence overtook the room as he scribbled and circled a few things in the contract.

Adelina waited patiently for the man to finish. The clock behind her was ticking, dragging out the time slowly in the silent room.

Harrison finally closed the packet and glanced up at Adelina.

"Alright. I have marked the places where I will need you to sign. Feel free to read through and let me know if you have any questions or concerns." Harrison stated as he passed the contract over to Adelina.

She gratefully took the contract and flipped through it.

She perused the contents with analytical eyes.

She paused as she noticed the title of the position.

The Secretary to the CEO?

Adelina looked shocked as she glanced up at Harrison.

She had thought the position was just for a secretary.

The secretary to the CEO was a position that was sought after by many, and usually one needed an extensive amount of experience before they were even considered.

She bit her lip as she realized another major issue.

"Wait. Does this mean I'll be working closely with the CEO?" She asked nervously.

Harrison nodded.

"Yes you'll be in charge of his everyday affairs and schedule. As well as organizing reports and meetings. You'll probably be assisting him directly over half of your working hours." Harrison explained.

Adelina nodded as she continued to peruse the document.

It was a higher position than she was expecting but she liked a challenge. She knew she could handle it considering she was groomed to take over her father's company all those years ago.

She was a bit worried about having to work so closely with the strange CEO though.

She flipped through the rest of the contract, noting legal details including resignation procedure and travel requirements.

Finally she arrived at the page she was anticipating.

She gawked.

The benefits and salary were beyond her expectations.

Her jaw dropped as she looked back up at Harrison.

"I believe there is a mistake on this page." She squeaked and pointed at the number next to the word salary.

Harrison leaned to look over the page and shook his head.

"No I believe everything looks to be correct." Harrison furrowed his brows.

Adelina was stunned.

"But this amount?" She stammered in surprise.

"That is correct. As the CEO'S secretary there will be a high workload and it may end in some overtime hours. It is a very demanding position and therefore pays like one." Harrison explained, quizzical at Adelina's reaction.

Was she really questioning the salary?

Most people would just shut their mouths and take the salary even if they believed it to be a mistake.

This girl was definitely strange.

Adelina nodded slowly.

"I see. And for the medical package, am I able to put my family onto the insurance plan?" She inquired.

Harrison's eyes blew wide.

"You have children?" He blurted.

Adelina went red.

Why was everyone in this company so focused on children and other personal matters!

"Ah no. I mean for my mother and siblings!" She quickly rectified.

Harrison understood quickly, breathing a sigh of relief.

He was worried his boss had gone crazy to consider a woman, who already had children, as his wife candidate.

He pondered her question.

"Well the medical plan is all inclusive for the individual and any dependents. Unfortunately it does not extend to family members who you are not in guardianship of." He clarified.

Adelina felt her heart drop. She was hoping she would be able to put her mother on this medical plan since it covered nearly everything.

She sighed and shook her negative thoughts away.

With the salary she would be paid, she could afford medical care for her mother regardless.

She smiled as she decided to finish and sign the contract, cementing her place as the new Secretary to the CEO of Night Corp.

"All done!" She exclaimed as she passed the signed contract back to Harrison.

"Perfect!" Harrison acknowledged as he placed the contract in a manila folder.

"Now as the Secretary to the CEO you will be representing the company as a whole. The dress code is always formal. The report time is always at 8 AM sharp, however Mr Night usually prefers to have his coffee 15 minutes before then. I will be overseeing and training you during the first few weeks, so please feel free to come to me with any questions you may have." Harrison explained.

Adelina nodded.

"Please train me well Mr Harrison." Adelina lowered her head in gratitude.

Harrison let out a chuckle.

"Just Harrison is fine, Adelina. We will be working closely together so please feel free to drop formalities." He smiled as he handed her a large binder.

"Here is some information on your position and duties as well as the personal preferences that will help you when dealing with our boss. He is very particular so please memorize this information quickly." Harrison stated.

Adelina gaped at the binder as she flipped through it.

There was a lot of information to memorize.

"You will begin officially on Monday. I will give you a quick tour of the facility and show you your work station. It is directly next to mine. Do you have any questions in particular that you are curious about?" Harrison offered with a smile.

Adelina thought for a moment.

Her mind drifted back to the strange interview from yesterday.

She pursed her lips.

"What kind of man is the CEO?" She asked earnestly.

Harrison hesitated.

His boss was a cold, calculating devil who constantly made him work overtime.

But there was no way he could tell this girl that and not send her running for the hills.

"Ah well- he is- let's just say he is particularly complex but a good person." Harrison sputtered.

"I see." Adelins furrowed her eyebrows.

The question she was asked yesterday still rang in her mind.

She had been asked whether she was a virgin.

If Harrison stated the boss was a good person that means he didn't ask her for perverted reasons.

The disturbing thought of being a sacrifice still plagued her mind.

Her thoughts then jumped to the travel requirements and she gulped.

She glanced warily up at Harrison.

"As for the travel requirement-" The blonde woman began.

"Ah that is intended for when we have to go for an overseas meeting or out of town excursion. It also applies to any company retreats. We usually have at least one trip a year for team building. You will probably end up traveling when the CEO has to attend any out of country meetings. I will also be traveling with you as well." Harrison interrupted.

Adelina chewed her inner cheek.

"That makes sense. But umm-" Adelina shifted slightly and she lowered her voice to whisper her question.

"Do all of the employees make it back?" She whispered in a secretive tone.

Harrison was stumped by her question.

Do all employees make it back?

What does she mean by that?

Harrison scrolled through his brain to understand what she was asking.

Was she asking if any employees were fired during the trip?

There had been a few instances when it had occurred. Some employees had gotten terribly drunk and made fools of themselves before and were let go and sent home.

"Well there have been some instances of employees not returning. However as long as you watch your behavior and do your job diligently you shouldn't be one of them." Harrison concluded, analyzing the girl in front of him.

Maybe she was an avid partier.

Adelina felt her blood drain.

Her crazy hunch was becoming more and more plausible that the company might sacrifice virgin employees.

Night Corp had an insane amount of power and luck after all.

She gulped around the knot that had formed in her throat.

"I see. I'll keep that in mind." She gave a small smile through her pale complexion.

Harrison narrowed his eyes at her reaction.

She seemed uncomfortable.

He would have to keep an eye on her during retreats and make sure she doesn't touch any alcohol if she was this worried.

The last thing he wanted was for her to get fired.

He couldn't handle having to do both duties of secretary and personal assistant again.

"Well do you have any other questions?" Harrison continued, breaking the brief silence.

Adelina took a breath. She would just do her best to avoid any questionable situations during trips.

"Nope! I believe I am good for now. I'll let you know if I think of anything else." Adelina stated confidently.

Harrison nodded.

"All right let me give you a tour then." He stood and Adelina followed him.

Harrison quickly showed her the facilities including the break room, restrooms and dining area.

Adelina was shocked at the elegant and luxurious benefits that came from working at Night Corp.

She didn't even have to pay for dining or brand coffee drinks from the cafe as it was all included for personnel.

Finally, Harrison showed her to her work space and Adelina went blank.

She had imagined a cubicle space with maybe a rolling chair and a small desk.

But that wasn't the case.

Instead, she was shown to a spacious office across from the elevators that guarded the hall to the CEO's office.

Opaque glass lined the walls and a large glass door sectioned the space off for privacy. Two small leather couches sat in a cozy formation around a small coffee table. A personal water and coffee station was set up in the corner.

A long large white desk was set up with a huge soft comfortable looking chair behind it. Three monitors lined the desk.

Adelina stared at the space and whipped her head back toward Harrison.

"This is my workspace!?" She blurted out in surprise.

Harrison chuckled.

"Yes this is where you will be working. You'll be in charge of making sure the guests are received and they can wait here for their appointment or you may show them to the conference room. You don't have to worry about being on guard for suspicious persons. Only a few select people have the key to get up to this floor. All guests will be escorted. I'll get you a key on Monday. My office is right next door." He pointed towards the office down the hallway a few feet from her own.

"You can decorate it as you like. You may be spending quite a few extra hours here so I suggest stocking your fridge with some goodies." He gestured to the hidden mini fridge behind the desk.

Adelina gazed in shock at her accommodations.

Night Corp was on a whole new level.

Adelina was still taking in the space when a loud ding sounded from the elevators.

A dark haired frazzled man exited the elevators and quickly spotted Harrison.

"Harrison! I need your help!" The man quickly rushed towards Harrison.

Harrison furrowed his eyebrows recognizing the urgency.

He turned towards Adelina.

"It looks like I have some things to attend to. Feel free to stay and get used to the space for a bit. You may leave when you are ready and I will see you on Monday at 8." Harrison told the blonde.

Adelina smiled at the kind assistant.

"Thank you Harrison. I'll see you on Monday!" She chirped happily.

Harrison smiled and quickly went with the frazzled man to sort out whatever fiasco had unfolded.

Adelina stayed for a bit in her new office, admiring her new work space.

This was so different from what she had grown accustomed to these past three years working part time at low level jobs.

She smiled and a bubbly laugh escaped her lips.

Her life was finally starting.
