Get On Your Knees

As soon as the elevator doors closed, a smirk spread across Vivian's face.

She let out a chuckle as she brought out the golden card she had received, admiring how it glimmered.

"That stupid man. So gullible it's sad." She snickered as she pulled out her phone, her hands moving at the speed of light.

She waited for an answer as the phone rang.

"Vivian, whats wrong?" The man answered.

"Nothing, I just missed you so much." She smiled, her eyes filled with joy.

Silence.

Vivian gripped her purse.

"Are we still on for tomorrow night?" She asked hopefully.

The man sighed.

"Sorry Viv. Something came up." The man apologized.

Vivian clenched a fist to her side and her wicked grin returned.

"Oh. How unfortunate. I received some valuable information today, but if you don't have time-" Vivian sighed dramatically.

"What information." The man peaked with interest.

Vivian chuckled.

"Really important information. But I'll only tell you when I see you. Let me know when you have time." She sang as she hung up the phone.

A second later her phone pinged.

'Tomorrow night, 9 PM at the usual spot.'

Vivian let her smile spread as she put away her phone. The elevator doors opened and she clicked across the lobby towards the exit.

Vivian was on cloud nine as she exited through the large glass doors and turned to walk down the street.

Her mind was filled with thoughts of her lover and she debated what she would wear for her date tomorrow.

Everything was going her way.

"I'll wear my new jewelry." She smirked walking quickly towards her car.

She was flung out of her thoughts as she felt an impact slam into her shoulder, making her drop her purse.

Vivian put a hand to her shoulder and winced in pain. She quickly glared at her assailant, ready to scream at whoever had the nerve to run into her.

Vivian paused as she recognized the blonde woman who had stumbled back in pain.

She smirked.

"I am so sorry! Let me get that for you." Adelina panicked as she bent to grab the designer purse from the ground.

"I was lost in thought and wasn't watching where I was going." Adelina explained as she brushed off the purse, not yet looking at the woman she had run into.

"Adelina is that you?" A familiar toxic voice entered into Adelina's ears.

Adelina froze, the blood draining from her face at the sound of the voice in front of her.

Her eyes slowly raised to get a glance at the woman she had run into.

Red hair.

Poisonous snake eyes.

An out of place malicious smile adorned the vile woman's face.

"Oh my goodness it is you! I barely recognized you. Its been years. How has life been treating you?" Vivian sneered in false interest.

Adelina felt her mouth run dry, and her mind froze.

Why did she have to run into this poisonous snake today.

Vivian appraised the girl's appearance with an amused expression.

Vivian could tell the girl had tried to dress up. The dress she wore was nothing but a second hand rag compared to her own designer dress. Her lack of makeup made the girl look young and naive. Her lips wickedly curved.

"Ah nevermind, I can see just from your appearance that life hasn't been kind to you. Whatever could have convinced you to come out here to the business district looking like that?" Vivian cackled.

Adelina's frozen state melted as she felt hot rage begin to burn in her chest. She reclaimed her calm composure.

"Vivian. I almost didn't recognize you either. Did you finally have your face fixed with all of the money you made off my family?" Adelina fired back with a friendly grin.

Vivian felt her eyes pop.

"What are you saying? Money from your family? From the looks of it, you have none." Vivian seethed quickly glancing in the reflection of a window nearby. She had some work done, and she couldn't believe Adelina would have the nerve to point it out so blatantly.

"Don't be embarrassed. Many people look down on women who get unnecessary plastic surgery. But I know what you looked like before. It was definitely necessary." Adelina commented.

Vivian turned red with anger.

Adelina used to be a walking doormat. Where was this confidence coming from.

She had wanted to humiliate Adelina a bit since it has been so long since she took joy in tormenting the blonde girl.

Vivian narrowed her eyes at the woman in front of her.

She knew what buttons to press to cause Adelina to lose that calm composure.

Vivians lips curved.

"Hows your family doing? It's been hard on you since your criminal father has been put behind bars. I'm sure they must be suffering." Vivian gleamed, clutching a hand to her chest in fake sincerity.

Adelina dropped her smile.

She wanted to smack the vile grin off Vivian's face.

"They're fine thanks for asking." The blonde beauty responded coldly.

Vivian smirked.

"Oh but I heard your house and assets were seized. Where are you living now? You aren't homeless right?" Vivian gasped.

Adelina clenched her hand into a fist. Trying to convince herself not to just handle this altercation physically.

"If you ask me nicely I could help you out. I'm rich and backed by some powerful people." Vivian gloated as she drew closer to the quiet blonde.

"If you get on your knees and beg maybe I'll consider introducing you to some powerful people. They'd love to get their hands on some fresh meat." The snake whispered into Adelina's ear.

Adelina snapped as she shoved the designer purse back into the woman's chest.

Vivian took a quick glance around.

There was a decent sized audience.

Her opportunism took over as she stumbled back and fell to the ground.

Vivian looked up with teary eyes.

"Adelina how could you be so cruel! Did you really just push me?" Vivian cried out in false pain.

Adelina furrowed her brows. She hadn't pushed her, she had only shoved the purse into her arms. She hadn't used enough strength to actually make Vivian fall.

What was this snake trying to do now?

Two men quickly rushed to Vivian's side.

"Are you alright?" One man asked as he pulled Vivian back to her feet.

"I was only trying to help my friend and she got angry and pushed me down." Vivian wailed.

She threw her green tear filled eyes back at Adelina.

"I'm sorry Adelina. Please forgive me. I was too forceful. I just wanted to help you and your family." She sobbed.

The two men stared at Adelina in disgust.

A crowd had formed from the scene Vivian was causing, murmurs rising around them.

"Isn't that Adelina Hart?" One person pointed out.

"No way! The girl whose father went to jail for embezzlement?" Another cried in outrage.

Adelina went pale as she was bombarded by the comments circling in the crowd that had gathered.

"Why did she push that poor woman?" One questioned.

"I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." Someone else mocked.

Vivian put her hands to her face to hide the smirk she wore.

She had missed the fun that came from humiliating Adelina.

She dropped her hands and quickly ran to Adelina.

She grabbed Adelina's hands.

"Please forgive me. I only wanted to help." She apologized, putting on a show.

The crowd was enraged.

"Forgive! She should be the one apologizing! Violence should never be condoned!" Some man yelled from the crowd.

Adelina went white as a sheet. She couldn't apologize or forgive this woman.

In fact, now she wished she had pushed Vivian since she was being accused of it anyway.

Vivian leaned in.

"Don't you see? Our statuses are so far apart now. You're nothing but a criminal's daughter while I'm a beautiful innocent flower. I'm always going to be the one on top. You should remember that well and get on your knees now." Vivian hissed maliciously, low enough for only Adelina to hear.

Adelina could feel the fire in her chest and a lump rose in her throat.

There was no way she could do that.

Not to this snake.

Disapproval rose in the crowd and Adelina panicked.

She didn't know how to get out of this.

She clenched her jaw as she realized the only way out was to apologize.

She felt wronged and angry as she opened her mouth to speak.

"Adelina dear! You're here!" A kind voice interrupted Adelina's torment as the crowd became silent.

They stared in awe at the old woman who was walking with a smile towards the young blonde. Pretty much everyone in the business world knew who this was, it was one of the most powerful and influential people in the business circle.

Adelina looked at her savior in surprise.

"I was wondering when I would see you again!" Madam Night exclaimed as she stole Adelina's hands from the vile snake, while giving a glare towards Vivian.

"I just returned from lunch so I'll escort you in." Madam Night explained kindly, guiding Adelina out of the crowd.

"Hey what do you think you're doing! That girl needs to apologize!" A naive and foolish man called from the quiet crowd.

Everyone turned and stared at him in shock and pity.

Was he a fool to be interrupting Madam Night?

Madam Night turned coldly towards the man who had spoken.

"Excuse me?" The strong old woman glared.

"That wicked girl pushed that poor beautiful woman over there to the ground for no reason!" The man huffed.

"And you saw this happen?" Madam Night raised a brow.

"Well no- but I saw the aftermath! Plus that girl is the daughter of a criminal!" The man defended himself quickly.

"I see. And you are?" Madam Night inquired, her glacier eyes freezing the crowd in place.

Electricity sparked in the air.

The crowd waited eagerly to see how the fool would respond. He would be stupid to actually reveal his identity when he had provoked this powerhouse.

The man in question raised his head arrogantly.

"I am the head of public relations at Night Corp." He stated boldly with an air of superiority.

Madam Night let out a dark chuckle.

"Ah. Of course. Then shouldn't you know as head of public relations that before you begin to judge and accuse anyone in any particular situation, you should first have all of your facts straight? It seems to me that the lot of you are like lemmings running off a cliff. Do any of you have all of the facts or have seen and heard everything that occurred here today? Are you that daring to insult someone that I am personally taking care of?" Madam Night boomed.

The crowd became silent.

Uncomfortably they began shifting and drifting further from the fool who had poked a sleeping dragon.

"Well I-" The man began as one of his colleagues jabbed him in the stomach with an elbow to stop any further stupidity from pouring out of his lips.

"Yes you. I am appalled that someone like you, who jumps to conclusions would be the head of PR at Night Corp. Perhaps your position needs to be reevaluated." Madam Night critiqued harshly.

The man looked around in surprise as the crowd began to disperse. He was confused as to why everyone seemed to fear the old woman.

His colleague quickly pulled him away from the situation before he dug his grave any deeper.

Madam Night continued to glare at the crowd as they dispersed.

Adelina watched in shock and admiration at how the old receptionist handled the situation.

The kind elder must have a lot of pull in the company if all of those people listened to her so attentively.

Madam Night looked at Adelina with a kind smile.

"Shall we go then?" Madam Night insisted gesturing towards the door.

Adelina smiled brightly at her savior. The rage and injustice she felt moments ago melted at the way the old woman had protected her.

"Yes of course! Thank you!" Adelina beamed as she walked towards the door with the old woman.

Madam Night stopped for a moment as she sent back a cold look at the red headed snake who had started this.

"Oh and Vivian. Next time you want to make a scene in front of Night Corp I suggest you think twice." Madam Night threatened as she walked into the building with Adelina by her side.

Vivian felt her hair stand on end as she shivered from the cold look.

The shivers stopped as rage took over.

How had that stupid naive girl gotten the favor of Madam Night?

Vivian cursed under her breath as she got into her car.

Her eyes narrowed.

She had been embarrassed today.

She gritted her teeth.

"I won't forget this." She seethed, promising revenge as she pulled away.
