Mindy approached their door cautiously, the muffled sounds of their heated exchange becoming clearer as she got closer. Leaning in, she strained to hear their words.
Inside, Grace's voice trembled with frustration and hurt. "How can you keep defending her, Jacob?"
Jacob's voice, tinged with exasperation and anger, responded sharply, "Because you can't see beyond your insecurities, Grace! You're always assuming the worst!"
Mindy winced at the intensity of their argument. She knocked gently on the door, her voice quavering as she called out, "Mom? Dad?"
There was a tense silence from within, followed by Jacob's last hurtful words to Grace, "You're tearing us apart with your insecurities. I'm tired of this. I'm tired of you constantly second-guessing me."
