CHAPTER 76: The Weight Of Lies
Back in my office, as I reached for my bag, my fingers brushed against the familiar crinkle of a candy bar wrapper tucked into a side pocket. The chocolate–a gift from Shawn earlier–served as a bittersweet reminder of the conversation I'd been putting off.
Pushing those thoughts aside for the moment, I ripped open the chocolate bar and threw one square into my mouth. Stuffing the remainder back into the bag, I slung it over my shoulder and hurried towards the door.
Just as I stepped out of the office, a solid form materialized in front of me. With a startled yelp, I stumbled forward, colliding with a broad chest. Strong arms shot out, catching me by the shoulders before I could topple over.
Looking up, I met Alexander's gaze. His touch, warm and familiar, sent a jolt through me. Memories flickered to life–deep kisses, his hands roaming my body with practiced ease. Heat flooded my cheeks immediately.
