  The car ride back to Alexander's apartment was filled with silence. Gone was the easygoing facade he'd briefly worn at the lounge.

  Now, his head lolled back against the headrest, his breathing deep and even. Sleep, fueled by the generous amount of alcohol he'd consumed, had finally claimed him.

  I stole a glance at his face, bathed in the soft glow of the city lights filtering through the windows. The harsh lines that usually bracketed his mouth were relaxed, and the furrow in his brow had smoothed out. He looked peaceful.
