The geezer took the white block in his hand and gripped the knife in his other hand firmly. I watched closely, as I was quite interested in whatever he was doing.
His hands shook as he brought the knife to the block and began to carve it very slowly. A tiny sliver of white was peeled off. He held the knife at different angles and at different depths. Sometimes making small cuts and other times making deep incisions, it was like watching an artisan at work with his craft. Little by little, the entirety of the inside was carved away to make a hollow casing. This took a long time so I was able to notice most details.
As I watched the geezer work, I was amazed and confused.
How did this fragile looking man cane us so mercilessly? He should not be able to do it. It felt like he was targeting my weak points and hitting them at exactly the right point but is that possible for someone who can't hold a knife without his hands shaking?
