Freedom Path: The World of Deva

The world of Deva is a place where geniuses rise and fall every day and only those with extreme luck can survive. George is a naive poor boy who grew up not knowing the horrors of the world. After being thrust from one situation to another again and again, he learned that there is no escape to being used by others. With no backing and no one to look after him, George will strive further and further until he can be free of the influence of the world. In a perfect world this would be the story of him climbing over every single person to become the sole strongest, but life doesn't work that way. There will always be those who stand in his way, even those he's known since the beginning of his journey. Alex is a former noble abandoned by his family. From a young age he has always had a sadistic streak, but that apparent flaw of his ended up leading him to his destiny. Alex and George. These two will continue to clash and take away from each other until there only one thing remains. Their lives. George raised his red sword that had been his companion for years on years, and uttered one word. "Flash." Immediately, thunder struck and lightning fell from the sky, encasing him in a golden glow. Golden armor formed around his body, his sword turned to black lightning and his eyes went black. He gazed at Alex who stood far away, and breathed out a challenge. "Come. Today, we will end this." Alex didn't respond, but raised his twin black daggers that were so jagged that they looked like they would tear through anything. He too narrowed his eyes and spoke. "Monarch of the Night." This is the story of how it came to be, and how it will end. I would like it if any potential readers would read the first fifty chapters before deciding whether the book is good or not. The story gets better the more you read. ----------------------------- Check out my NEW book Primordial's Champions. CHAPTER 56: GERONIMOOO!

[George's POV]

When did I drop it?

Maybe when we fell? Moreover, I had a knife! Why was I running away when she charged at me? I could have at least put up a fight! Did I forget I had one?

In the midst of my inner contemplations, the boy caught sight of the screen in my hand and grinned.

"You're from Group 22 as well? When did you get here?"

I was confused, but then I saw the number twenty-two on his tag. Instinctively, I backed away a little to stop him from seeing my tag and decided to go along with him.

"Yeah, I am. When are the others getting here?"

"Pretty soon. I passed Worad not too long ago, and he said he was going to meet up with the others before he came here."

"Oh, I see."

I looked down at the screen in my hand with a blank expression, but on the inside I was very confused.

Why did he think I was in Group 22 when he saw this?

I had a sinking feeling in my stomach and looked down at the screen. There were now two dots on top of the green dot. Could it actually be tracking me and him? If so, then are the other red dots his other people from his group?

That would be disastrous for me in so many ways. I'm really not in the mood for a mob.

He rubbed his chin and peered at me a little closer.

"But it's strange. I don't remember seeing you at all. And I know most people in our group."

My heartbeat began to rise in frequency.

"You must be imagining it. I'm always there, it's just that I don't have a lot of presence."

He looked thoughtful.

"You sure?"

"Yeah."

After a while he nodded and seemed to agree with me.

As I didn't know whether the others he mentioned would be arriving soon, I tried to leave immediately.

I walked away from him in a way that he wouldn't be able to see my tag. I had almost gotten out of his field of vision when he called out to me.

"Wait a moment."

I flinched and stopped.

There's no way he knows. My acting was flawless, or so I'd like to say, but it was probably at best an amateur's work.

I didn't turn around but still answered.

"What do you want? I'm busy."

"Where are you going? Don't you remember Clavan told us not to go anywhere when we had reached the destination?"

How was I supposed to know that? I'm not in your group!

Despite my internal panic, I kept my appearance calm.

"Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Thanks for reminding me."

"Don't mention it."

I walked slowly back and leaned against a tree that was far, far away from him.

What do I do? I can't stay here until they arrive, that would be suicide. At least one person would realize that I'm a phony. Do I make a run for it?

If I do, would this person chase after me? I doubt it, if he truly believes that I'm from his group, he probably would be too surprised to do anything.

I looked down at my feet.

Okay, I'll do it. And I have this screen that I presume tracks them. I can avoid them, but I'll have to get rid of it when I'm far enough.

While I was thinking and planning my escape, I failed to notice that a group of dots ware progressively getting closer and closer.

Without any form of delay, I ran and ran, much to that guy's surprise. As I dashed in between the trees and pushed through the bushes, I looked down to see the screen and what I saw there was not something I expected.

There was a red dot just to my right! My heart almost stopped beating from the shock and I turned towards the left without hesitation.

As I ran, I heard someone inquire about the noise to someone close to him.

"Did you hear something?"

"Not really. What's up?"

As I kept running and got farther and farther away, my sense of danger faded.

I stopped and gasped for air.

I sank to the ground to catch my breath, but didn't notice the person staring at me with curiosity.

"Whatever might you be doing here?"

I jumped and turned my head to the left and right until I saw a girl sitting on the branch of a tree.

She let herself fall to the dirt below and walked towards me calmly with no signs of open hostility on her face.

"That's strange. I don't remember you, even though you're supposedly have one of the trackers."

I paled, but thankfully my back was still turned to her. I made myself calm down and turned to her.

It was only when I was already in the motion of turning that I remembered that I had a tag on my chest that had the number thirty-nine on it.

Unfortunately, I realized it too late and couldn't stop myself since I had already started.

Grimacing, I turned to face her.

Her eyes widened for a moment then relaxed and a condescending smile appeared on her face.

"What do we have here? A nobody among nobodies, a person from Group 39."

I was very calm, despite the situation I was in.

There was only one thing that had to be done when there was dilemma like this, and it was something I had considered in the past when I was still a captive of Girl.

Run for my life and jump off the cliff and hope I'm not falling to my death.

"I'd love to stop and explain why I have a 'tracker' as you call it, but there's something very urgent for me to do. We can talk later."

With that, I sprinted in the direction in which I came from.

I ran past everyone I came across and didn't stop until I came back to the cliff that I ran from not too long ago.

There were a lot more people now but I still spotted that first guy I saw and waved to him. He waved back, albeit a bit confused.

I ran through the steadily growing crowd and jumped off that cliff, down towards the raging bluish-green river.

"GERONIMOOOOO!!!!"

I wanted to assume that my shout attracted the attention of everyone who was on the cliff but didn't have time to think about that, as I lost consciousness when I hit the water.
