Chapter 32 : Gifts

I was awoken by a knock at the door.

I'd fallen asleep on the couch, Jamie and I staying up all night. She fed me dinner first, and then I recapped everything that had happened in as much detail as I could remember. After that, she turned on some trashy reality TV, and we stayed up late blowing off steam and laughing at old memories from high school.

As much as I wanted to get back in my own bed, I needed that more.

I was feeling much more clear-headed this morning, and something that felt crystal clear was that I was still upset with Alessandro. Jamie had agreed, he was the one who had kept information from me. He was the one who got to rest peacefully at home while I rotted in prison. He didn't care to believe me until I did the work to clear my own name. He didn't try at all.
