I think Adam took his promise a bit too seriously, which is why I'm currently unable to get out of bed and walk to the bathroom while said serious man has me locked in his grip.
"Adam..." I whisper, trying to shake him awake but he only groans, tightening his hold on me even more.
If I wasn't suffocated already.
"Go to sleep, sweetheart." He mumbles against my neck, kissing the place softly when I sigh.
"Adam, it's nearly night time already, we need to get up." I said and trying to shake him off me but he kept mumbling something incoherent in his sleep.
"No." He grumbles like the baby he is until I have to shove his leg with my foot and he shoots up awake.
"Get up Adam!" I say louder this time and he narrows his eyes at me.
"What is it?" He asks yawning when I point to the clock and he looks at it briefly before groaning loudly.
"Fuck, now I won't be able to sleep at night." He mumbles when I chuckle lightly.
"I'm sure you can still sleep with how tired you look. You were snoring quite loudly." I said when he scrunched his face at me.
"I don't snore."
"You so do." I grabbed his face between my hands, placing a long kiss on his lips. He grabbed my wrists and kissed me back harder but before he could do anything else, I pushed him away.
"Now, carry me to the bathroom. You broke me." I say holding my arms up at him like a child when he raises a perfect brow at me.
"What for? You have legs, don't you?" He says with sass as I roll my eyes.
"And they say romance is dead." I say and hear his chuckle as he peppers kisses all over my face.
"Joking, love. I'll take you." He murmurs against my lips, pecking them twice before picking me up in his arms and effectively carries me into the bathroom, placing me on the counter.
He turns towards the bath, filling it with water and then bubbles before coming back to me.
"So... I broke you?" He asks cheekily and I smack his chest but he grabs my hand, placing a kiss on my wrist as he stands between my legs.
"You kept your promise a bit too well." I said sighing when he chuckled, resting his arms on either side of me as his eyes trail down my naked body slowly before coming up to me, a shade darker.
"I think I'm hard again." He cocks his head to a side and my eyes widen.
"Again? You're insatiable, Adam." I say wide eyed when he chuckles, lifting me up in his arms and lowering me into the tub, he gets in behind me.
"I'm insatiable when it comes to you. You can stop being so damn sexy all the time and I'll stop fucking you so much." He says in my ear, his hands massaging my shoulder gently as I relax against him.
"I'm good, thanks." I say smiling as we sit in the bath for a while more before getting out.
"Dinner?" Adam asks as I walk into the closet and nod.
"How about takeout? I feel like eating Chinese today." I say and see his nod as he pulls on a white t shirt after wearing grey sweatpants.
"Sounds good. I'll order it for us." He pecks my lips before going out while I move to put on a t-shirt of Adam's and shorts underneath.
Oof, I'm really hungry.
* * *
"Yes... Yes I'm done with my part. Yes, it's confidential... Alright, see you then." Adam hangs up the phone while I text Taylor as he stalks over to me with a file in his hand.
"Who were you talking to?" I ask as he sits on the couch next to me and sighs, placing the file on the table.
"Lance. Needed to update him on the project we were doing." He said, rubbing his temples as I placed a quick peck on his cheek, making him smile a bit.
"You guys done?" I asked and he nodded.
"Lance has to make some tweaks, I'm done. Do you want to see?" He asks excited.
I smile and nod, straightening the creases on my skirt as I shift closer to him while he explains everything he's done with the project.
I take this time to appreciate how passionate Adam is about his work and about what he does. He doesn't laze around, no.
He makes sure he works just as hard as everyone else, maybe even harder, and he doesn't like things being handed to him on a silver platter because he knows how satisfying it is to achieve something after working hard on it.
And when I look at him explaining everything to me so effortlessly, I feel like this man has no imperfection, like, at all.
He cares for me like no one ese, takes time out for me and makes sure I'm always comfortable around him.
He loves his family, he loves working hard, and he loves me. What more could anyone possibly want?
How did I get so lucky?
"Everything okay, my love?" He asks cupping my cheek gently and I smile softly and nod.
My love.
See what I'm saying?
"Yeah, I was just thinking of how amazing you are." I said and hear his chuckle as he leans forward to kiss me just as someone knocks on the door.
He stops midway, a scowl forming on his face as he curses under his breath, making me giggle at him.
"Come in." He says coldly as a nervous Lucas stumbles in.
"Mr. Thorne, we're keeping tabs on Mr. Williams and his son, just like you asked." He says and Adam nods thoughtfully.
"And you have a meeting in ten with the board." He reminds before leaving the office as Adam sighs and I wrap my arms around him, his head dropping to my shoulder.
"Never thought one of our most trusted employees could stab me in the back like this. Even my father trusted that man." Adam says, and I know how much it pains him to see through to this.
"It'll be okay, I know it. Does your dad know?" I ask and he nods, nuzzling his face in my neck as he places a kiss on my pulse, making my breath hitch just as someone bursts into the office.
"Mr. Thorne-" Liam stops short, his eyes widening when he sees Adam literally in my arms who sits up abruptly and shoots Liam a glare.
"There is something known as knocking." Adam grunts and Liam nods nervously, looking between the two of us.
"Y-Yes, Mr. Thorne, but there was an emergency. It couldn't wait." He says.
Adam stands up, approaching him, who types something on his iPad before showing it to Adam who swears loudly, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Stop this transaction, now. I don't care how, fucking stop it." He says lowly, making both Liam and me to flinch as he runs out the office.
"Adam." I approach him carefully, wrapping my arms around him and resting my head on his tense back.
I feel him relax under my touch immediately, turning around in my arms and burying his face in my hair.
"God, why is everything going so fucking wrong?" He mumbles as I pull away and look into his eyes.
"What's wrong baby?" I ask cupping his face as he leans into my touch.
"Another big transaction." He sighs and I close my eyes, pursing my lips.
"That means there must have been one in Lance's as well." I whisper and he nods just as Adam's phone starts ringing.
He pulls it out of his pocket and mumbles something incoherent under his breath as Lance's name flashes on the screen.
"I need to take this, baby. Stay here." He kisses my forehead before leaving the office. I pace around the room for about five minutes before I can't take it anymore.
"Oh fuck it." I say and step out of the room, looking around in confusion at the empty floor.
I see no one in sight as I make my way down using the stairs, stopping right in front George Williams' office, I knock on the door and the man himself opens it.
Surprise is evident in his eyes as a slow smile stretches across his face, his eyes raking me over before he steps aside to let me in.
"To what do I owe the pleasure, Ms. Edward?" He asks, closing the door behind me as I wring my hands together nervously.
"Do you now about the money being transferred illegally?" I ask suddenly and he narrows his eyes at me a bit before nodding slowly as he sits back in his seat.
"I do, yes. Why?"
"Well, there was another transaction just now and Adam left to take a call, but he hasn't returned yet. Do you have any idea of who it could be?" I ask, judging his facial expressions carefully but he doesn't give anything away.
Damn it.
"I don't, unfortunately. But why come to me, of all people?" He asks a little suspiciously when I shift in my seat.
"Well, you're one of Adam's most trusted employees, I thought maybe you might have an idea." I shrugged indifferently when he nodded.
"Yes, but unfortunately, I can't think of anyone who might want to betray Adam." He said just as got up from my seat and he did the same.
"Oh. I should get going then. It was nice seeing you, Mr. Williams." I said and he nodded.
"Please, call me George." He said and I smiled a bit forcefully but just before I could turn around to leave, he spoke, knocking the air out of my lungs.
"And do I call you Isabelle? Or Jenna?" He spoke and my blood froze over, eyes widening before I composed myself and turned to face him.
"I-I'm sorry?" I asked a bit confused when he smirked, fiddling with some papers before slowly walking over to me.
"I think I'll go with Jenna, isn't that right?" He asked as I cocked my head to a side, feigning confusion but my heart beat a little too fast for my liking.
Shit, what now?
"I-I don't understand what you mean." I said weakly when his grin grew wider and he chuckled.
"Oh stop with the nonsense. You can stop pretending now. I know it was you at the club spying on us." He said, anger evident in his tone as I took a step back.
"I'm sorry, George, but I think you're mistaking me for someone else." I said and he scoffed.
"Cut the bullshit, Ms. Edward. You can stop acting now, we both know very well what and who I'm talking about." He gritted out and I stood up straighter.
"Then you'll know you won't get away with this either." I said furiously and he chuckled darkly, stopping me from leaving the room.
"Oh I have, dear Isabelle. And you know what? I actually can think of someone who can betray Adam. The woman he loves." He sneered at me and I took a step back in defence, frowning.
"He would never believe you. And besides, I have done nothing wrong." I stated confidently when he shook his head.
"And what if he has proof?"
"Where on earth will you get proof when I haven't even done anything wrong?" I spat and he grinned.
"You'll see." He said wickedly.
"I'm telling Adam. He'll get you behind bars." I stated and just as I was about to leave, he stopped me with a vice grip on my arm.
"You won't be telling him anything, because the moment you do, your brothers and Adam, all go... well, six feet under." He said and I paled at the thought.
"You wouldn't want murder on your conscience." I said, trying to pull my arm free but he smirked sinisterly.
"If it means I can get the Thorne empire, then yes, I would want it." He said darkly when I gulped as he showed me something on his phone screen.
"You speak a word, my man shoots him." He said and my lips parted in shock when I saw Adam step out of the building and sure enough, a red target was placed on his back as he spoke furiously into his phone.
"S-Stop!" I yelled, tearing my arm from his and running out of the office.
I ignored all the looks being thrown my way as I ran down the stairs and out the building, crashing into Adam who wrapped his arms around me and kept me from falling face first into the pavement as he looked at me worried.
"Love, what's wrong, are you okay?" He cupped my face in his hands.
I looked around like a mad woman, and sure enough, I saw the shooter in the front building just before he disappeared.
"Are you okay? You're not hurt, are you?" I asked scanning him while he looked at me confused before I threw my arms around his neck and pressed my lips to his.
He seemed shocked at first but kissed me back nonetheless, his arms firmly wrapping around me.
That was a close call.
He pulled away first, still confused as I rest my forehead against his.
"You're okay." I whispered and he nodded slowly.
"I'm okay baby, are you...?" He asked and I nodded furiously, hugging him tightly.
"I'm okay, I'll be okay." I whispered as he led us back inside, ignoring the numerous looks thrown towards us by his employees.
Just as we entered his office, he walked over to his seat as my phone buzzed and I glanced at it briefly, my soul dropping out of my body.
'Speak one word and he's done for.'
