36 The Journal (7)

To Iris' shock, there was actually something regarding the event. Not as much as she would have liked, but a lot more than she had expected.

Instead of a schedule, the day of the confession had a lot of written and crossed out words. Some of them Iris didn't recognize, but the rest were clearly cafe names, restaurants, cinemas, some amusement park, a celebration of some kind, a concert. A few others were blackened out to the point she couldn't even read them.

Iris chuckled to herself. 'Somebody's confession went well.' But then a bad feeling rose in her heart. If he had succeeded, then wasn't it likely that they might still be together? And if they were, that Jane person might visit him here…

'No, no, no! Don't fall into that pit again!'

She quickly turned the page, trying to focus on what she was seeing. There wasn't much there, though, just the usual schedule, and that wasn't too distracting. Because of that, she turned page after page, looking for some tidbit of knowledge.

The end of May and start of June were exam season, so they were mostly filled with deadlines, what needed to be learned, study sessions, and group meetings. It didn't seem like Kyro had any time for his love life during those days.

Iris was about to pass June 13th as just another boring day when one word stood out - 'Meet Gale'. Gale? What was this about? Weren't they sworn enemies thus far? Had they become friends in secret?

Frustrated, Iris turned a couple more pages. Five days later, there was another entry - 'Discuss internship details. Prepare for Gale possibly showing up there.' Now this was something better. Apparently, nothing had changed. It seemed like Gale was just acting out on his own again. Could he have been thinking to sabotage Kyro's chances for an internship?

That didn't sound like a good start to a friendship, but what did she know. Maybe they were crazy enough to have somehow bonded over it.

Throughout the summer, nothing much happened. Kyro seemed to be focused on his work with no mind for anything else. The only time his schedule changed was when Gale showed up to crash the party. And he seemed to be fond of it.

There was one mention of him barging into a conference unannounced (Kyro had to meet up with a couple people to apologize to them), then another of him pulling the fire alarm at random (Kyro needed to reshedule a meeting and delay the shipping of some products), and to top it all of, he stole Kyro's journal and wrote a whole page in a mockery of a diary entry.

There was no mention of what happened after this, but Gale's presence diminished by a lot. The last month did not contain even one mention of his name. Same as Jane's, who seemed to have disappeared from the face of Earth for the whole summer.

The question of what she had been doing nagged at Iris, but there wasn't much she could do besides turning the pages and hoping to gleam more from them. Once autumn started, everyone returned to school. It all fell back into the same pattern, with only one huge difference - Jane and Kyro were going out.

It wasn't conspicuous, only one small-scale date per week, but it was there all right. There were also a couple more drawings of her, which Iris skipped over. No point to taint her mind and all that.

In October, there was finally something really interesting. The last Friday of the month, Kyro was supposed to go on a date with Jane as usual, but it was crossed out. And it wasn't just one casual line of something being rescheduled. No, it was blackened to the point that nothing could be read and even the paper there was almost torn through. The only reason Iris knew it was the date that was so destroyed was because they always had dates on Fridays.

'Bad weather in your garden of Eden?' Iris asked, eyes shining. She felt like she was reading some kind of a romance novel. At first, there was slow, cute love, then a period where it was meant to grow stronger, and now that the end of the book was coming, there was a need for a debilitating event that separates the lovers before they can find each other again, their love having been tested.

'How cliche.' Still, she turned back a few pages to try and figure out what had happened. There was nothing outstanding noted in Kyro's schedule. Could it have been the company event? The previous Friday, they couldn't go on their usual date since it was important to check out the companies that came over to present themselves. The two had instead went together to this event.

Was it worth breaking up for? It looked a bit too sudden, but Iris didn't know what had happened there…

(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡 ┻━┻

She needed more details! Stupid Kyro, unable to write down whatever was going on in his head at the time.

With a great sense of annoyance, Iris flipped through the next couple pages barely scanning them. It wasn't like he was going to tell her anything anyway, his words were way too precious, couldn't even write them down.

'DESTROY BRONS UNLIMITED.'

Iris stopped. There was nothing around these words, no explanation or clue as to what they referred to, but that was exactly what attracted her attention. They were written in the middle of the page in a brusque manner, with all capital letters and underlined a dozen times.

'Kyro…' Didn't this mean that he was scorned and thus went on a rampage, probably destroying any chance he had at succeeding in the business world? 'Poor guy… I should probably be nicer to him.'
