Chapter 16

Owen stepped closer, peering at the window frame. “I see that. How come?”

“Well, some of the marks come out with water. Sometimes they need cleaner. But sometimes it’s best to paint over them.” The paintbrush stilled, and Sebastian lifted his head. “Sometimes, even, you think the water or the cleaner will work, but then you end up scrubbing so much that you have to paint it anyway.”

“Do you normally paint random—” A light went off in Owen’s head and he cut his words short. “You work here?”

Sebastian shrugged. “I paint. I clean the finger marks. I wash the stairs.” He eyed the windowsill and then slid off the ladder, hopping lightly to the floor. “Sometimes I fix the taps. Or a drain.”

“You’re the maintenance guy!” Owen grinned. “I wondered why you were always around.”

Sebastian frowned and the expression was insanely cute with the flyaway hair and the sweat-streaked skin. “I’m always around because I live here. Remember?”
