"So what are we supposed to do now?" Evos asked me as I collected samples from my new snake. "To be honest, I have no idea. This isn't one of the random mutations that we've seen before. But something completely new."

I gently pulled out a scale from the reptile and started to test the resistance of the material, "Well, it's keratin, and so far, all the other tests say that's a snake." Evos rolled his eyes, and I smiled, "So I'll ask again what do we do."

"We wait, simple as that. I need to think about this, and once our little friend here wakes up, I can ask him, wait, it's female." Shaking his head, Evos stretched, "I still don't believe that the snake can understand English."

I didn't pay the hormonal teenager any more attention as I had some work to do. Once I was alone in my lab, I realized that everything I had done before would have to throw it aside. 'Everything was going well until I gave the subject the ability to think for itself. All creatures inherently want to survive, and the Darwin Serum could mutate the consumer so they could adapt and survive. Does that mean if the consumer thinks about a mutation that would allow it to survive, the serum will provide the mutation?'

While it was a grand theory, I couldn't test it. There were too many unknown variables to try and recreate the experiment again. 'If a desire for power influences it, Darwin could be a much more dangerous chemical than first thought.'

If someone other than me could get their hands on the formula and start mass-producing, the human race might die out entirely. But as it stood right now, the only ones who knew about my work were the ones on this ship, and the only person who could come close to cracking the code was Evos.

I had no reason to worry about the boy betraying me, but I needed to be careful about how much I give him. Pulling my head out of the gutter, I looked back at the sleeping snake.

When I examined her DNA, it was an amalgamation, I could spot some genetic code that shared some similarities with human and reptile DNA, but most of it was completely new. I had to dive into my textbooks to affirm my suspicion, but after looking for the better part of an hour, I couldn't find anything that proved me wrong.

Even though she shared DNA with humans and reptiles, they were more traits than actual signs of a common ancestor. Whatever was sleeping on my lab table wasn't a snake. It was an entirely different species outside of the clade of reptiles.

'It's almost as if each cell has undergone thousands of years evolving from the primordial ooze that all living life came from. I had reached another barrier in my pursuit, 'I may need to take a step back, right now, I have no leads, and I'm burning myself out.'

Following my advice, I left my lab in exchange for getting some fresh air. Up on the deck, I was a little more surprised to see that Leana and Ace were sparing and were somewhat equally matched.

Ace was flying in the air assaulting Leana with different fire projectiles, while Leana would attack Ace using the masts and floor to push herself into the air.

Not wanting to interrupt, I didn't move. Happy to watch, Leana jumped into the air missing Ace by a hairsbreadth and landing back on the floor on all fours.

Moving at blurring speeds, Leana ran up the masts, seemingly trying the same tactic again, "You can't just try the same move over and over until it works!" Ace moved out of reach watched Leana from above.

"Just watch me hot stuff!" At the top of the pole, Leana jumped her metal claws aimed at piercing Ace. But I could tell she wasn't going to make it. There was more than a twenty-foot gap between them.

Though instead of flying through the air Leana started to run in the air, "Ah shit." Ace was only able to get out two words before Leana reached him dragging him to the ground. When they landed, Leana was on top of Ace, her claws poking into his neck.

"I yield. You win, damn it." Leana smiled and hopped off of Ace, turning to face me, "Did my mate enjoy the show? I've been practicing." I wrapped my hand around her waist and brought her in for a kiss that lasted well over a minute.

When we separated, Leana was panting and staring at me with fuck-me eyes, "My God, would you two get a room. No one wants to see that." I smiled, "Don't worry, Ace, we're only a day away from Alabasta. Once we're there, I sure you can find someone to help you relieve all that pent-up stress."

Ace didn't respond, and he walked past us leave me alone with Leana, "So you were able to learn Geppo, and it looks like Soru as well?" Leana moved closer, burying her head into my chest, "If you weren't couped up in that lab all day, you would have seen how much stronger we've all become."

"You're right. I have been under for a bit, but I'm up now, at least. That has to count for something?" Leana smiled and reached down her hands, trailing down my body, "We haven't slept together in two days."

I grunted as Leana reached into my pants, finding my hardening shaft, "Oh, is my little wolf hungry?" I did some exploring of my own, going under her shirt, tracing over her muscled stomach before diving into her skirt.

Leana gasped as I pulled aside her panties and started to pinch and toy with her clit. Soon I had the mink whimpering, her legs barely able to hold her up.
