28 Atari Development
After 10 minutes of internal struggles, Nolan finally made a decision.
"I can sell 41% of shares to you, how do you think about it, Mr. Henry ?" After thinking about it a little while, Nolan decided to just leave 4% of his shares just in case Atari really rises..... The rest of 4% of shares is owned by senior Atari management.
Henry grinned while looking at Nolan like a fool. Of course, he did this stealthy but Nolan's greedy capitalist nature has shown in this deal. Even if Nolan really likes money, he left 4% of Atari shares which Henry thinks a little crafty. But it did not matter, with 92% shares that Nolan agreed to sell, Henry already had enough to control Atari thoroughly.
4% of Nolan shares and the other 4% can be diluted later in various ways by Henry in fact for 4% that were owned by Atari management he would just buy them back with a similar offer.
"Absolutely, it's only fair to extend the same offer to the Atari management holding those 4% shares I would like to have the whole company" Henry concurred, his tone decisive.
Nolan acknowledged Henry's suggestion with a nod of agreement. With the verbal agreement in place, Nolan promptly left his office to draft the formal agreement documents. As he departed, Henry remained seated, contemplating the potential impact of Atari's future direction.
With 96% of shares, Atari basically is his now. He feels amused by how Nolan accepted his offer without hesitation. Of course, Nolan does nothing wrong as most company founders will do what Nolan did now if faced with the same situation. But he is rather glad about this result as he doesn't have to do extra work to get the Atari.
After 30 minutes, Nolan comes back with a man in a suit carrying a suitcase.
"Mr. Henry, I'd like you to meet my lawyer, Andrew. He'll be here to witness our business agreement," Nolan introduced, motioning towards Andrew who took his place beside him with a confident nod. "Fortunately, most of the Atari management is fully on board with selling their shares, save for one individual. But not to worry, their stake is just 1% of Atari," Nolan reassured Henry, determined not to let the deal slip away due to one dissenting voice.
With a firm grip on the situation, Andrew settled into his seat, pulling out a stack of documents from his briefcase, ready to officiate the proceedings and ensure the deal proceeded smoothly and legally.
Henry didn't mind about that and just nodded as Henry then took the paper and read it carefully. Henry finds nothing wrong and signs the paper consisting of Share transfer and related to it. Henry was paying $around 35 Million to Nolan and the Atari management and additionally he will pay $2 million to the bank Atari took loans for the 95% from for the shares and now Atari officially became a company under Umbrella Corporation and Henry's name.
As for money they both had to visit the Bank as cheque won't work for such a huge some as both had to verify the transaction.
After the business was done, Nolan then invited Henry to eat as he feels very excited right now. With a huge sum of $26.4 Million, Nolan instantly became a rich man, dream most young man a millionaire. Henry rejected Nolan's invitation as he has a lot to do now. Nolan of course is not forcing Henry so he just leaves the office to inform all employees about the changes.
Henry then followed Nolan as this is the perfect time to introduce himself as the new boss of Atari. Nolan then ordering one of the employees to inform all employees of Atari to gather at the hall.
After all the employees gather together in the hall, Nolan starts his speech.
"Greeting everyone, I just want to inform you that I, with Atari management, already sold the majority of Atari shares to this young man. Now that I am no longer the boss, please voice out your welcome to your new boss."
A piece of shocking information revealed from Norman's mouth. Every employee here did not expect Nolan would sell the majority of Atari shares to that young man. Even though they did not know the specific shares, it can already be inferred that Atari is owned by that young man.
Now that Atari has changed hands, every employee here became anxious about the jobs and their future as they did not know how the young man ran the Atari. Or they would even be part of Atari.
"What do you mean you sell your shares Norman ?" A fat man quickly voices out his opinion in a high tone.
Alan glanced toward the fat people, "You already know why I've created Atari, Allan."
That's right, the fat people are Allan Alcorn, the designer of PONG. Now that Atari has changed hands, Allan was worried about how the new boss would treat the PONG project. Allan has 10% of the profit from every PONG sold due to him being its designer and 1% of Atari shares as its co-founder, the one who wasn't ready to sell his own share. He thought it will take time before deal will be finalised he never thought it will happen within half hour.
Allan's face redden, but he can't retort anything as Nolan's action is understandable. He is just a small shareholder of Atari, so he can't voice out his opinion. So he just chooses to be silent as he hopes the new boss will be more good...
Everyone is silent too in the Hall, but to the majority of the employees here, they don't care about who is the boss if their money and job was guaranteed. So seeing everyone silent, Nolan feels this is already enough so he stepped back and let Henry speak.
Henry stepped forward and began his speech, "Hello everyone, my name is Henry William, I will be your new boss. I know what everyone is worried about, it's nothing more than the future of Atari. I'm not a big-mouthed person, so to prove the future of Atari in a direct way, I decided to inject $10 Million to speed up the development of Home PONG."
Hearing $10 Million of funds, everyone's eyes begin to shine, especially Allan Alcorn. The development of Home PONG has hindered nothing more because of fund issues. Now that the new boss injected $10 Million fund into the project, the development of Home PONG can already be foreseen.
Everyone started applauding including senior management like Allan Alcorn, Harold Lee and every employee here.
Henry just smiled when he heard everyone applaud, but he still has one more thing.
"But I want the Home PONG developed in 3 months, can you all do it?" Henry asked with a loud voice
Allan Alcorn stepped forward with confidence, declaring, "Just give me 2 months at the latest, and the Home PONG will be ready." Eager to make a positive impression on the new boss, he patted his chest with determination.
In response, Henry placed a reassuring hand on Allan Alcorn's shoulder and remarked, "I trust in your abilities. If you and your team can deliver on your promise within 1 month, as you've stated, 2% of the Home PONG profits will be distributed among every hardworking employee here."
The room erupted into applause at the prospect of potential financial rewards. However, Henry wasn't finished yet. He added, "But we're not stopping there. If Home PONG can be developed in 1 month, everyone's salary will be tripled from its original amount."
Everyone applauded again as 3x times the salary is very good too. So after receiving Henry's command, all of the employees begin to work again. After everyone leaves the hall, only Nolan and Henry are here.
"Well, your decision is quite bold." Nolan did not know what to say anymore. $10 Million for just speeding up the uncertain Home PONG, Nolan did not know its genius or madman. But anyway, he already got the money so even if Home PONG failed, it's not his business now.
Henry just laughed as he didn't plan to tell anything to Nolan. After chatting for 5 minutes, Steve Jobs came to the hall with a box filled with his private stuff. Nolan then excuses himself as he plans to enjoy his life a little after getting the money....
Steve Jobs then surprisedly said, "Wow, you bought Atari? I don't expect this at all."
"Well, I believe under my care Atari's future will be promising, but that's another matter as you, Jobs, will not have any relationship here." Henry then went back as he wanted to bring Steve to Apple HQ so Jobs could better understand the situation.
