Chapter 4: First Date

I got up at 8:00 this morning so I would have time to take a shower and get ready for my date with Nathan. I decided to wear a long sleeved black shirt, black jeans, black steel-toed boots. I let Morgan put makeup on me. She used black eyeshadow, lipstick, eyeliner, masara, and she drew an upside down cross on my cheek in liquid eyeliner.

"Thanks bro." I said when she was done. "Your welcome. When does he get here?" she asked. I checked the time, "In about 5 minutes." She cocked an eyebrow, "Are mentally and physically ready?" I nodded, "Yeah."

The dogs started to bark, signaling his arrival. I headed for the living room so I could open the door for him. When I opened the door he was dressed in all black just like me. "You look great. Did you do the makeup yourself?" he asked. "Thank you, but no my sister did it. Come inside, my parents want to meet you. The dogs won't hurt you." I opened the door wider so he could come inside.

I led him to Dad and Mom's room. "Nathan, this is my Dad and step mom, I call them Dad and Mom. Dad, Mom this is Nathan." I introduced them. "I'm Skyelar, do not ever adress me. I promise you, I don't care." Dad said. I laughed a little. "I'm Jennifer. What are your intentions this morning with Renée?" Mom asked.

"I intend to buy her some coffee for her to enjoy at my favorite coffee shop in town, Main Street Coffee. While we drink coffee I'd like to get to know her better." Nathan said. "Straight forward, I like it." Mom said. "What do you drive?" Dad asked unexpectedly. With no fear of Dad at all, Nathan said, "A black Harely Davidson motorcycle." He checked his watch then turned to me, "May I meet your sister before we leave?" he asked. I smiled, "Sure, stay here I'll go get her."

I went to my room to get Morgan, "He wants to meet you." I told her. "Oh ok." She got up from her bed and followed me to Mom and Dad's room. When we got there Mom, Dad, and Nathan were all waiting patiently and awkwardly.

"Nathan, this is my best friend and sister, Morgan." I said. He nodded his head at her, "I'm Nathan. If you're her best friend,  I assume you already know about me." She crossed her arms, "You would be correct, and there is no 'if'." she said. He smirked and checked his watch again. "It was nice meeting you all, but now it is time for us to go." he said.

I followed him all the way outside to his motorcycle. When I realized I was about to ride it, I got a little nervous. "Nathan, I've  never ridden a motorcycle before." I said in a nervous, shaky voice. He looked back at me, "It'll be ok, I promise. I brought you a helmet and I won't go too fast. It's fun, you'll see." he said reassuringly.

He got on his motorcycle and gestured for me to get on behind him. I hesitantly got on. He looked back at me, sensing my hesitation. "Just hold on to me and you'll be safe." I hesitantly wrapped my arms around him. "Ok, are you ready?" he asked. "Yeah, lets go." I said. He started his motorcycle and started to drive.

As we picked up speed, I involuntarily held on tighter to him. Despite my fear, this was fun. I enjoyed the feeling of the wind blowing my hair behind me, and the speed was incredible.

When we got to Main Street Coffee I stumbled off his motorcycle. "That was actually a lot of fun." I said. He smirked, "Told you." He led me inside and ordered black coffee with sugar. "And for you?" the lady asked me. "Hm, a mocha frappuccino, please." She smiled, "You look like the kinda girl that would love mocha." She made our coffee and gave it to us. We found a booth in the corner of  the coffee shop.

"So, what kinda music do you listen to?" Nathan asked me. "Oh, I love music. I listen to mostly metal and rock. I also listen to country, pop, rap, classical, stuff from the 70s, 80s and 90s." I said. "I listen to most of the same stuff. I'm not that big on pop. What's your favorite song?" he asked. "It's kinda depressing but my favorite song is Broken by Seether." I said. His eyes grew a little wider, "That's one of my favorites."

"What do you do for fun?" I asked him. "I ride my motorcycle, listen to music, read, bake and cook, and I um, uh steal." he got very quiet on the last part. "You steal. That's cool." I said. He seemed relieved, "What do you do for fun?" he asked. "I read, listen to music, talk to myself, write stories or poetry, bake, go for long walks or drive. I also, uh, plan out murders." I said. He smiled at that last part.

"What kind of books do you read?" he asked. "I'm a picky reader, I don't have a specific genre. My favorite book series are In The After by Dimitria Lunetta, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, and Messenger of Fear by Michael Grant." I said. "I love Michael Grant's books, especially Messenger of Fear. I'm the same way though, I read what I like. I like a lot of the classics, Stephen King, Michael Grant, and a few murder mysteries." We are very similar so far, the thought made me smile.

"What was school like for you?" I asked. "I dropped out senior year when I turned 18, but I'm very smart. When I was in school I was a straight A student. I was also an outcast with no friends. What about you?" he asked. "I loved school and always have. I'm pretty smart. I just graduated high school and I took a few college courses online. I have friends but people who aren't my friends are either scared of me or don't like me." He nodded understandingly.

"So you work at Starbucks now, but what do you actually want to be?" he asked. "I would love to be a Zoologist. If that doesn't work out I want to own a bakery." I said. "What do you want to do?" I asked. "I want to work for the black market." he said quietly. I laughed and smiled a little at that.

"Do you have a favorite animal?" I asked. "I do, it's the arctic fox. I love foxes. What about you?" he asked. "My favorite animal is a lion. I have a slight obsession with big and wild cats. My favorite fox is the fennec fox. I would do anything within my power to save an animal." I said. "I agree, animals are important, lovable creatures." he said.

"So, what's your family like?" he asked. "Well, I live with my Dad and he's a lot like me. My Step Mom is a lot like my Dad and we love playing card games together. My sister Morgan is dramatic, artistic, and a lot like me as well. She's my best friend. Cora, my youngest sister is whiny and not as innocent as everyone thinks. My little brother Jake is very annoying and sneaks a lot of things. My step great grandma is nice but a little annoying, she's only my great grandma because she married a man with grandkids. My great grandpa is a truck driver. He's hardly ever home, he's funny and loves to take us places. My step great aunt is very crafty, talkative towards people she knows, and tends to be a very annoying." I said.

"You have a lot of family." he said. I laughed, "That's only the people I live with." I said. "Well, continue with the rest of your close family." he said. "Well, I used to live with my aunt Jessie, she's very loud but kind hearted. My uncle Christopher is funny and loves bikes. He builds them and sells them. My cousin Mariah is very annoying, she loves makeup, and she is one of my best friends. My cousin Anna is only 9 years old and she loves girly stuff. My Nana is kinda winey, she loves playing pool and wolves. My Papa also loves playing pool and he has a dark sense of humor and loves metal like me."

"My biological mother was my best friend and the only person I would trust. She was my world and she died 5 years ago. Her death feels like it was yesterday. My oldest brother, Kameron, lives in Idaho. The last time I saw him was 3 years ago, before that it had been 11 years." I said. "What about your family?" I asked.

He frowned a little, "I never had much family. When I was in middle school I got in a really bad car wreck. My Mom, Dad, and little sister all died. I lived in an orphanage until I was 18." Now I feel bad, "I'm sorry. I was talking about my family not even realizing you had lost yours." He shook his head, "Don't apologize, you didn't do anything wrong." he said.

"Well lets get off this topic. What's your favorite season?" I asked. "I like winter, it's cold and there is usually snow everywhere if you're in the right state." I smiled, "Same here, I love snow and cold weather. The heat makes me sick." I said. "The heat doesn't negatively affect me, but I'm not fond of it." he said.

"What things do you not like the most?" he asked. "Hm, well I don't like happy colors, such as yellow and pink. I don't like orange either. I'm not fond of cheerleaders and school spirit. I hate dolls and Texas. I hate preppy people and just most people in general. Religion pisses me off too." I said. He nodded, "Yeah, I don't like those things either.

"Have you ever dated anyone else? Or had any kind of past love life?" I asked. He shook his head while drinking some of his coffee, "No, I never liked anyone else but you." I blushed at that. "I've had a few crushes but never acted on them. Out of all of them though, I like you the most." I said. He smiled, "Thank you."

"Is there anything else I should know?" he asked. "Well, lets see. I have scoliosis and I wore a back brace for it in the 5th and 6th grade. I'm atheist and hate church. I'm psychotic, homicidal, and depressed. I take medication for my depression and psychotic symptoms." I said. "What about you? What else should I know?" I asked.

"I live by myself, I spend most of my days alone, I want a pet but don't have the money to take care of one, I'm also depressed though I don't take any medication for it. I am not allergic to anything. Are you allergic to anything?" he asked. "I'm lactose intolerant." I said. "Oh damn." he said.

I took another drink of my coffee and ended up finishing it. "Aww, my coffee's gone." I said. Nathan looked down at his own cup and noticed his was empty too. "I'll order more." he said before getting up. He came back with coffee inside to go cups. "Lets hit the road, I'd like to go for a drive if you don't mind." he said.

I nodded, "I'd like that." I took my coffee from him and we headed outside to his motorcycle. He placed our coffee in his cup holders. I wrapped my arms around him already used to the feeling. He started his motorcycle and we drove for an hour, just enjoying each other's company.

When we got back to my house he gave me his number, "Feel free to talk to me whenever. We should hang out again soon." he said. I smiled, "Ok, see you later then." He gave me one more smile before getting on his motorcycle and left.
