Escape

He tried to move out of the way but River's legs were planted in place as a shield covered them. 

River turned to the general who placed this barrier over them while drawing his sword at the creatures.

The creatures clawed at the barrier but they could not break through and Ace finally breathed a sigh of relief. 

Though this relief was short-lived as he turned and saw the general slowly back to a corner, trying to protect Grecia while holding the barrier up. 

"Come on, Ace. Wake up." River turned and shook the boy but he would not budge. 

"It is no use!" The general shouted, "They are placed under a spell. I should have warned him not to look into their hollow eyes." 

"What do I do?" River asked, heart hammering against his chest. 

The creatures broke into the carriage even more and it was only then that Ace noticed what happened to those creatures that the general managed to cut.
