Chapter 50: New Beginnings
Claire
One week later
“Claire. We’re here.” Richard wakes me up and helps me out the bed as his private jet lands at the airport. I’m finally home. I walk to the door and down the steps to exit the plane. My mother is waiting on the tarmac. I run to her and wrap my arms around her. She squeezes me tightly and kisses my forehead.
“Thank God you’re alive, Claire. I knew you should have come home with me the first time. A mother knows when something is wrong.” She wipes my tears from my eyes.
“You must be Richard.” Richard reaches his arm out to shake her hand. My mother grabs him by the arm and gives him a hug.
“It’s nice to finally meet you. I wish we weren’t meeting under such circumstances.” He grabs her hand and kisses it.
“I can’t believe what you two have been through. I almost had a heart attack.” She puts her head down and cries. Richard and I embrace her and walk her to the car.
