Chapter 71

Before he put his phone away, his phone buzzed again. This time it was Tristan. Hot guy. Real hot.

Pad texted him back. Okay. Make sure he buys a book.Pad then texted an emoji sticking a tongue out.

Pad walked back to the register and checked out the items with reserve reminders. He picked up one book to see when the last call was made. These were books customers requested but didn’t prepay. The rule was three calls and if the person who ordered the book didn’t come within two weeks they would put it out on the floor. He heard movement behind him and saw a person reflected in the Plexiglass fuzziness of artwork that lined the counter so he turned to face the customer. It took a split-second for him to recognize and overcome his momentary shock. The hot guy Tristan texted him about stood right in front of him, holding a couple of magazines for purchase. And he knew him.

Wayne Alderman.

Pad looked down at the register to collect his thoughts.

Shit! Why is he here?
