Chapter 16: Two Matching Couples

I end up sitting in the luxury leather passenger in Donovan’s SUV as we head toward the Italian deli that I originally thought we would go to. Our drive is in relative silence, but it’s not uncomfortable. Behind us, one of Donovan’s bodyguards tails us in a black sedan. It’s surreal that he needs a bodyguard to go to a restaurant next to a movie theatre.

“So, what’s it like being back?” I find myself asking, thinking about Cameron and my conversation earlier today.

“Nice. Really nice. NBC is great, don’t get me wrong. I met so many cool people there, but…It got to be too much.” Donovan’s face turns down a bit, as if his inner light dimmed.

“Too much? I mean, I guess I get it. It has everything, opportunities, any kind of food, any sort of concerts…I’ve always wanted to go and visit but maybe it’s different to live there.” I say, imagining how cool it would be to explore and lose myself in throngs of people.
