"A Promise" -Prequel

"I told you once, and I will not tell you again! I do not want this kid!" The drunken male yelled dominantly at his wounded wife. The wife stared blankly at her husband. This wasn't the first time he laid a finger on her, and it was far from the last.

"Daniel, you promised me someday we would have a family of our own. You promised!" Lillian, a short, 22 year old brunette woman, yelled back at her husband. This earned her another slap across the face. Her husband grumbled once he felt that his wife was wounded enough. He moved to sit back on the couch and open up yet another bottle of beer. Lillian placed a hand on her cheek. It stung a little, but it quickly went away. She was used to the pain by now. She opened her mouth to say something, but soft cries interrupted her. She jumps into action and hurried down the hallway, entering a small, lightly decorated nursery. On top of being a wife, Lillian was also the mother of a beautiful six-week-old baby boy. He was her everything. He was the reason she woke up every single morning. He was her fuel to keep going, to keep working and to keep fighting back. On top of all of that, he was also her husband's biggest target. Lillian fought back more than ever to protect her infant son. She knew he couldn't stand even a single hit. Daniel never wished for the son Lillian had brought into this world, nor did he wish for Lillian to even get pregnant in the first place. Ever since the two were married Daniel turned into a raging alcoholic. He couldn't even go out with friends for dinner without coming home completely wasted.

Lillian had many attempts to free herself and her son from this dangerous environment, but her husband had an on going streak of finding out her escape plans. No matter what she did or how secretive she did it, he always found out in some way. One attempt even included finding her son a better home before he was even born. Adoption was the best option for the baby, giving him away to a family member was completely out of the question. Lillian's family is very strict and very religious, following the words of god very closely. None of them agreed with Lillian choosing to marry Daniel. For one, they believed she was too young and should have waited a little while longer to even think about marriage. For another, they all knew there was something wrong with that man, but sadly Lillian failed to see that for herself. She was completely blinded by her unconditional love for him, so when he asked her to marry him she didn't hesitate to say yes. As soon as the two were wedded, her family quickly cut ties with her, refusing to be apart of her life any longer. Lillian didn't bother trying to get back in touch. Setting up her child for adoption was the only thing she could do. He needed to be protected, he needed a better family, he also needed a loving father to guide him. She could only give him love and protection for so long. She could sense herself growing weaker each time he attacked her. She didn't even see herself making it past the age of 25. She sees her own life being taken away by her husband before she even has a chance to see her baby boy go off to school for the very first time.

Lillian arrived at the small nursery, heading over to the crib. "Shh, it's okay sweetie." She whispered softly to the crying baby, gently picking him up and cuddling him. "It's okay, you're okay." She repeated over-and-over. "You're okay." She rubbed his back gently as she planted soft kisses on his head. "I promise, he will never touch you. Ever." She moved her son so she can admire his adorable little face. She admired his soft, rosy pink cheeks, then his beautiful emerald green eyes that were lightly coated with tears. He was perfect. Lillian noticed he was starting to calm down, he was a pretty easy baby in her opinion, "all you wanted were just some cuddles, huh?" She commented, he was 100% a mommy's boy. The baby finally showed a small smile as his eyes brightened up. She kissed the top of his head, "my little Brandon. So sweet." She cuddled him some more, "so gentle, so sweet." The baby snuggled close to his mother, loving her warmth and hearing her soft voice. Lillian made sure he got enough cuddles before she placed him back inside of his crib. She sang softly to the baby, his eyes growing heavier by the second. Soon, he was finally resting peacefully, letting out a few coos here and there. Just as she finished her sweet song, her phone went off. She quickly checked it, letting out as gasp in shock over what she had saw. "I told you baby, I told you you'll be okay." She smiled brightly. It was an opening for a cheep, affordable apartment far away from her abusive husband. It was all they needed. Lillian quickly went to go pack up her things, planning to pack up Brandon's after.

Once finished packing her bag, Lillian checked down the hallway to see if her husband was there. Luckily, he was not. She quickly headed back over to the nursery with her own bag. She locked the door and quickly started to pack up Brandon's things. She was nearly done when a loud banging can be heard on the door. "Lillian!" A voice booms in annoyance, it was her husband, "Lillian where the hell have you've been! Where's dinner!" He pounded on the door, trying too get it open.

"Daniel! Stop it!" Lillian yells, trying her best to finish packing the bag for the baby. Her body started to shake in fear as he attempted to beat down the door. Soon the door slammed open. Lillian screams in shock before try to scramble away from her angered husband. Daniel grabbed her by the shoulder, giving her a cold nasty glare before slamming her head against a wall. Lillian collapsed to the floor, looking up at him. She opened her mouth to speak, but she failed. She was far too weak. The last thing she heard was the cries of her baby boy, she was too weak to protect him this time. Her heart ached as she fought to stay awake. She soon lost the battle, giving out as her world fell dark.
