Chapter 78

" Can't you fix it?" Flame asked in reference to the faucet. But Rehan didn't reply. She glanced up at him, at the eyes that were now a pale blue and the wings that matched. She watched how keenly he was observing her. His hand still on her upper arm, his own eyes fell to the place where he held her. He couldn't remember the last time he had touched someone other than his brothers. Had completely forgotten how it felt like. The last time the angel had touched a female had been centuries ago, before the war had broken out. It had been an angel, a friend of his who hadn't survived the war. And after that the basic act of touch became all but a foreign thing. And he had been so heartbroken on realizing that Flame was also affected by the compulsion of his wings.

But now he had some hope, if Aurelia had been able to reverse the effect on her perhaps there was no reason for him to worry after all.

" Rehan?" Flame called him for the second time and he shook his head, quickly letting her go and apologizing.

" No need to worry, I was asking whether it's something you can fix?" he shrugged, shaking his head. He had spent hours trying to figure out what the problem was but he hadn't found it. And there was someone who could fix it but he was a member of the staff. A group of beings he never interacted with because the second they cast their eyes on him they were cast under a spell and all they were interested in was touching his feathers.

He explained that to Flame who was kind enough to help her. She went and searched for the male who immediately went to Rehan's

chambers to find out what the issue was. He hadn't been there when Flame returned and she understood why. Sighing, she hurried over to hers and Nuriel's chambers where she found him seated up in bed with a slight look of impatience, but it disappeared the second he saw her. Then his eyes landed to the try in her hands and he smiled sweetly.

" Here, eat, " she said as she got on the bed and placed it on his laps. Then she sat back on her heels and told him what had occured with Rehan and how happy she was that she could finally be in the same room as the angel without him desiring to flee.

" That's wonderful m'eudail, at least he now has one more person to talk to, "

Nuriel said. Rehan had a kind soul but he had spent so much of his time trying to run from other beings that he was constantly on edge. He particularly recalled one time when a child had walked up to him without his realization and placed her hand on his wings. She had been young, unaware of her actions, and she had held onto his feathers and refused to let go.

The angel had screamed louder than anyone had ever heard him scream before. Since then, he had always been weary and avoided going to any gathering where the other beings would be present.

" Here, " Nuriel fed her a spoonful of corfniel and she gladly took it. And after that they resulted to sharing the meal.

" You need this more than I do. You clearly used up too much energy yesterday, " he said and she didn't reply.

" I can now get to her whenever I please you know, " she said. Referring to Phoenix. With the help of her wisps, she had the ability to reach Phoenix despite where the female could be. Nuriel stopped eating and placed the trey between them instead.

" You aren't doing that again, "

" You can't tell me what to or not to do angel. This is a relationship,we both get an equal say, "

He smiled despite not wanting to.

" Relationship, huh?" She shrugged and tried to push the matter aside.

" My point is, I should have the ability to make my own independent choices."

" I haven't deprived you of that, all I'm saying is that you shouldn't rush into things without thinking first. What you did last night was courageous and I commend you for it, but it also wasn't the smartest thing to do."

She huffed out a breath and wrapped her arms around herself. And he knew his mate, she was probably planning her defence in her mind, but then she surprised him by saying that he was right. He raised his brows and asked her to repeat what she had just said.

" Don't get too full of yourself, but it's true. I underestimated her, " Nuriel shook his head and placed his palm on her cheek lovingly because what he said would most likely get her mad at him.

" Actually, it's more like you overestimated yourself. You just discovered how great you were and less than five minutes later you went after her. You must learn, grow, " She leaned into his touch and then she kissed him. He would forever be the most important person to her. And he made sense. She needed to let her abilities manifest themselves first before she went in search of Phoenix again, and when she did she had to make sure she wasn't alone. Because the truth of the matter was that she had no clue what would have occured had Bastian not appeared last night. Perhaps she wouldn't even be there. Shaking the thought away, she picked up the bowl of fruits and fed them to Nuriel. But after two bites he placed it aside and pulled her closer.

" I think I'm in the spirits for something sweeter, " he said as he angled both her legs on either side of him. She wiggled her brows suggestively and he laughed. Then he told her that he still had no plans of marking her, she rolled her eyes and groaned into his shoulder.

" You could always pull out before you were done you know," she suggested and he shook his head. The laughter dancing in his eyes. It wasn't something he was willing to try because the truth was that once he was inside her, he doubted he'd be able to control himself.

" This is so not fair!" she complained. Knowing that he affected her that much only served to make him happier, he was just as affected by It all but he wasn't taking any chances. Phoenix proved time and time again how powerful she was and he wasn't going to ignore the signs.

" You requested a council meeting, remember?" He asked her and she nodded. They would still have it, but later perhaps. It felt like ages since anyone felt like they could breathe and she just wanted to assure everyone that there was no reason to worry.

" We have an actual chance to get rid of her, " she told Nuriel.

" But first I need to know that you support me and that you won't freak out every other minute. "

" You have my word, " he assured her and she kissed him. Both her hands in his hair and a playful smile on her face.

" Eat some more, " she instructed with her eyes on the trey, but Nuriel told her he'd eat it later on.

" I'm surprised you haven't finished it. You're always hungry, " he seriously joked and she playfully hit his shoulder. Then all humour was lost when he reached underneath her gown and slowly began to trace his fingers across her smooth skin. She missed his intimate touches so much it was almost driving her nuts. She reached for the ties and claps on his leather vest and started to take it off him.

Phoenix was still out there, but they knew that none of the beings were in danger of getting killed and so they only had to focus on a tactic for killing her. Then they'd find her mate wherever he slept and ensure he never woke again. But before that they'd allow themselves a break. To both plan things out and try to catch a breath.

And perhaps to feel. Flame arched her back and closed her eyes. Her angel's name on the very tip of her tongue, eager to be moaned.

And it was, over and over until she reached the fringes of her pleasure and fell.

" Mine, " Nuriel growled afterwards, she was still breathing hard but she managed to utter the words, " No one elses, "

That was their vow, their secret promise to each other and despite anything that happened, it was never going to change.

They showered together, and he helped her to get ready before they decided to take a walk around the Triecan. After which they would go to the meeting that flame had called for. And for the first time, she would be the one to speak, the one to direct the others on what to do. He was immensely proud of the type of leader that she was becoming with each day that passed.

She was right, all he needed was to have faith in her and let her grow.
