Five Reasons

Heartbreaks. Tears. Depression. Move on. I make mistakes. I also get sick. I sometimes embarrass myself in front of my classmates. I never answered back to my parents. We live in a normal house, run a small store, and I have a normal love-hate relationship with my younger brother. I'm smart and talented. I easily learn lessons and help my classmates with some of their difficulties. As a matter of fact, I can say that I'm normal. However, things changed when I transferred. My heart raced for a person. The wrong person. The whole world would condemn us if we ever got together. I don't even know if that person would reciprocate my feelings. But I still fell. In the game of love, the first one who fall will lose. And I did. I fell. I fell. And I fell. ~~~ Disclaimer: The events in this story really happened in real life, except for some parts where the main character is not present. But those are supplemented by asking the point of view of those present. Names of the characters are edited to avoid shock and confusion from their perspective. But if they ever found out about this, we will have a long chat. Again, everything in the story is according to the point of view of the main character.

Reason 4: She Is So Not Good In Handling Money (4)

Summer job.

It's a great way to earn money while learning the ropes of the government.

"Miss Aurelia, Miss Beltran, I will be leaving the office to your hands today. I'll be visiting a construction site in the nearby baranggay," the leading officer of this office, Ma'am Jonah, said as she packed her bag and documents.

"If anyone asks for me, tell them that I'm away for work. Just answer the telephone for me like always. And please arrange those documents by year. I'll be needing them tomorrow in the conference in the Mayor's Office," Ma'am Jonah said as she left the door of the office.

We said our good bye and good luck to her and returned to our seats.

The room is cool.

The smell of old documents lingers in the air.

But the brightness of the room makes it so hard to sleep.

"Hais," I sighed and slumped to my seat.

"Hey, Raven, stop sighing and slumping over there. We still have some documents to arrange," Grace, my cousin who is also assigned to this office, said as she went to do work.

She's so dedicated. She's also hard working. Why is that?

"Let me laze around for a while more, Grace. By the way, where's Nong Hanz? I haven't seen him since morning," I asked while trying to get up from my seat.

Grace is really a graceful person, like her name. But if she gets pissed off because I'm dawdling around, she'll turn into a Super Saiyan! (Please refer to the anime series with Goku.)

Grace thought for a while but before she can answer me, the door opened.

It revealed the missing person from the office, Nong Hanz.

He scratched his head while apologizing for his tardiness.

"Where were you, Nong Hanz? Ma'am Jonah left early this morning to visit a construction site nearby. She said that we should arrange these documents that she'll need tomorrow," I said as I got up from my seat.

I also showed him my cousin who is hard at work right now with arranging the old documents.

"I had a meeting with my course mates, Raven. I might ask for a leave for a few days this week," Nong Hanz said as he helped Grace with the arranging.

I puffed my cheeks as I looked at the two.

They would match each other perfectly if they did end up with each other.

One is a graceful and diligent girl, while the other is a charming boy.

But the thing is, Nong Hanz already took a path of no return.

Although I don't judge, but it's a pity. He's a good catch. But he's gay.

Why?! Oh why?!

I approached the two and watched them arrange the documents. But I noticed something wrong.

"Grace, Nong Hanz. You are both doing it wrong. You should group them us first and arrange them alphabetically later. Grace, you do this time period. Nong Hanz, you do this. I'll group them later in their alphabetical order and check if anything's wrong. We can do this faster this way," I suggested as I gave Grace and Nong Hanz their responsibilities.

"You should really be a hard worker next time, Raven. Your talents will be wasted if you kept them inside the box," Grace commented as she followed my orders.

I harrumphed.

"Hmmph! This lady is only suited to give orders, not follow them, my dear cousin. You should always remember that," I said as I crossed my hands and observed them work.

When break time came, we walked out of the office and went to the ground floor to buy snacks from the canteen.

After that, we went back to work.

After the assigned jobs, we can do whatever we want.

Grace brought her tablet today, so we watched a movie in the office while waiting for visitors. And by visitors, we mean the other students who are working with us, just with a different office.

"Yosh! How's your office going, Raven, Grace, Nong Hanz?" the door opened and we looked up from the tablet to the newcomer.

Oh, it's just Juliana.

She's our batch mate and my neighbor. We're also distant relatives, but we're not that close.

She's the naughty type of student, and doesn't focus on her studies. She only entered school to barely pass. So we're not on the same level. Frankly, I looked down on her academic achievements.

But she can be a good person, like how responsible she's taking our summer job. However, I also wish that she took our studies seriously, or she'll fail eventually.

This is a concern from a distant relative.

"We're just waiting until 5 pm, today, Juliana. We finished our work earlier so we're just watching some newly released movies," Grace said with grace. But obviously, what we're watching is a pirated copy of the movie.

And we're watching it in a government office. Shame on us.

(Note: Do not be proud of piracy! Let us stop piracy and help the companies to earn their own keep!)

"Oh. Hey, Raven, you're really going to study in that prestigious school, huh? Please help us lowlifes in the future if you became successful," Juliana said in a revering tone. She even clasped her hands and bowed to me, as if praying for her future.

"Stop it, Jul. I didn't even top the entrance examinations. I'm surely just average compared to the students of that school since Junior High School," I smiled as I stepped on myself.

Hais. This coming start of the school year, I'll be transferring to the most prestigious school of the Region. So I'm pressured from the expectations of those around me.

"You can do it, Raven. Just shock that school with your talents just like how you shocked ours," Nong Hanz said some words of advise as he smiled to me.

I smiled at their encouragement.

I then subtly changed the topic to the movie we are watching.

I'm scared. I'm nervous. I'm pressured.

That school is a prestigious institution. Do I really deserve to study there?

And besides, I'm just a poor student who needs to join the Summer Job program of the government to earn money.

~~~
Looking back at the time when I worked in the Municipal Hall and still had great views about this school, I ended up crying.
Why?!
Why is the difference from my views before to my views today so big?!
Why did they destroy the 'prestigious' image of the school?!
"Rae, do you want to buy ice cream? You need to relieve your stress of losing money today. Or else it'll be a big problem later," Jean worriedly said as she dragged me to the store.
Jean-onee-chan~
You're the only one who cares about me.
But you also wanted to make my pocket bleed more by having me buy ice cream?
