Chapter 28: War (7)

Barriers are spells that requires a constant supply of mana for it to activate.

And while it is seen as a beacon of safety for the majority in the world, not a single thing has no flaw.

While the barrier in the capital city of Ghalvhir covered the city's sky and beneath the land with a protection field, it had to have a hole somewhere for others to be able to have a source of water.

Using this information the merfolks dug tunnels, like ants, beneath the kingdom so that they will be able to go and attacked wherever they wished.

However, they need a small force that will garner attention from above the surface so that the kingdom of Ghalvhir will not be able to figure out how they were able to come despite being so far from the sea.

Meanwhile, humans in the kingdom of Ghalvhir bore hatred and disdain towards other races after the tragic events from forty years ago.

Due to this, no matter who or what they were, they would kill anyone who is not human.

And those who they have killed will be used as lab rats for their experiment.

Forty years ago, humans were used as disposable tools and slaves for the other races. Those in Ghalvhir who, by chance, found a book how the other races made the humans as their tools of war decided to use it back to them.

This brought forth the event that was transpiring in front of Charlie as watched from above.

The merfolks wanted to kill the abomination of a monster, but...

"Save me!"

"Why did you abandon us?!?!"

"I don't want to get hurt anymore!!!"

The faces of merfolks on the sea serpent yelled in anguish, causing the merfolks to hesitate and tremble in fear.

"Merfolks are regarded as <Evil> by AQA. After finding out more about it, merfolks are no different from the ones in the castle just now.

Are you going to help them?"

Charlie looked at the sky with lifeless eyes.

"Are you not going to talk, or should I make you?"

"I do not know about what is your purpose for creating such a thing... however I apologize if my actions offended you somehow"

A man appeared suddenly out of nowhere.

"Hmm, invisibility cloak? How nostalgic. It is bringing back some memories~

Putting that aside, I am most definitely not the one who created that thing"

"Then, that means that the intel we received is true that the king of Ghalvhir is commiting taboo"

"Now that your accusation has been proven wrong, are you going to tell me who you are? I doubt you came all the way here for idle chatter"

The man took a step back, fearing what Charlie migth do.

"I am the prince of Pridirus, Ulran Pridirus. I came here as envoy from my kingdom to verify if you, the leader of the rebellion army, has any thoughts of attacking my country"

Despite his fear, Ulran stood tall in the face of unknown danger.

"You are wrong again"

"....?"

"One, we are not rebels. We are more like hired mercenaries as reinforcements. Two, we do not have any intention on attacking your country. What benefit will that give us?

Finally, how straigthforward of you. What made you think you would be safe from me for you to come here, alone at that?"

"I am not alone"

The two looked at each other in silence until Charlie decided to sit down.

"Boy, I am someone who specialize in tracking and collecting the tiniest information around me. You think there is someone in your kingdom enough to fool my eyes?"

A bluff.

While he knows himself he is not strong enough to say such things, he wanted to get rid of all the variables that may arise that will lead him to kill the young man before him.

"From what I can tell, you are neither a magician nor a divine energy user. I doubt that you are capable of doing anything like that"

Ulran spoke with fear.

While he himself is capable of using divine energy, one cannot be too sure about something that they do not know.

As such, despite knowing the fact that Ulran is stronger, faster, and more skilled compared to Charlie base on his instincts alone, he could not get rid of the sinister aura coming from him.

Snap!

In a blink of an eye, Charlie's dagger appeared before Ulran's neck.

"You still think you are better?"

"No. Not at all"

He said as he was prepared to die.

Ulran who was ready to have his neck cut off was standing in silence like a statue while Charlie had already went back to relaxing himself by laying down once more.

"Sit down and wait"

With nothing else to do, Ulran sat down from where he stood.

After some time passed, only a few buildings were left intact after the most of the merfolks died from the chimera sea serpent.

"Now, that thing should be at its weakest. Killing it and then sending it to Marco would be the best outcome for us"

Charlie took the bow on his back and pulled the bow string.

"What is... that...?"

As he pointed the bow towards the dying mosnter, an arrow made of bright light was formed.

"This is the accumulated happy energy I have. Go die in peace"

Shing!

He fired the arrow and strucked the mosnter's head, killing it properly in one go.

"Phew. Now I feel refreshed!"

Unlike the dagger that utilizes negative emotion, the bow could store Charlie's positive emotions bit by bit. Just like Veronica's revolver.

"How... how did you do that? No. What was that?!"

Ulran kept asking Charlie as they went down.

"AQA, I will use thirty points. Transport all the corpses in this city back to the castle"

PING!

[Request accepted. Targets will be transported immediately after five minutes]

With his mind in a compose state thanks to his weapons, Charlie looked around once more and saw things the him a year from before would never would imagine.

"You should go back to your kingdom"

"But... I..."

Ulran panted as he tries to catch his breath.

"The important thing is that we do not wish conflict with your kingdom. That is all you need to know"

Charlie walked away from the city while Ulran watched from a far.

"Sigh. I really can't understand the thoughts of the strong. I hope one day, I-"

[Transportation will now commence]

Bright light coated all the corpses in the city.

"....?"

After the light vanished, all the corpses were gone without a trace, leaving Ulran in a dumbfounded state.

"Ha... hahaha! I think I'm going crazy"
