First Impressions Don't Always Last

Samantha Curtis is in an arranged marriage with a very handsome rich guy 6 years her senior. On the first meeting, he downright turned the idea down. But circumstances happened and they ended up together with the condition that they shouldn't fall for each other. Can they keep up with it? Hello lovely people! This is my first time writing and I really appreciate it if you can support me and try to give my novel a read. I'll try to publish chapters as regularly as I could! :) P.S. The image I used for my book cover isn't mine. Took it from a free sharing platform and didn't cover the artist's signature.

"Okay, so everyone, let's all do a quick introduction. I will start with myself, my name is Alicia Smith, your executive producer. Looking forward to working with you all." she said.

My turn came, "Good morning everyone! I'm Samantha Curtis, screenwriter. And I just want to take this time as well to thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with you all." I said with a smile.

"Your work and style of writing intrigued me. Hard to believe you're new to this. Jeremy Humphry, I'll be the director for this movie." the veteran actor-director said while extending his hand to me.

I stood up and eagerly took it, blushing a little as I was complimented by this legend.

"Thank you very much, sir." I smiled shyly.

Everyone continued introducing themselves. Then the good looking actor spoke up. "Henry Davidson. I'll be playing Morris Sawyer. Looking forward to working well with everyone." he said with a smile.

He will play my male lead. No doubt he has good acting skills and a really dashing face. Though, if I was asked about the casting list, I'll prefer someone less bulkier. I'm not complaining that he's sexy. I just imagined Morris Sawyer to be more on the average, less muscular built.

But what can I say? It's showbusiness. They have to sell everything and everyone as attractive and charismatic. A good looking, smart male lead will definitely sell.

Regardless of the casting list though, I know I will enjoy working on this project. I'm more than excited to gain experience on this new endeavor.

After everyone's introductions and announcements of the roles they'll play, we proceeded with the table read.

Table read also known as read-through is an organized reading of the script to critique it, confirm casting decisions, and to bring the creative, production, and financial teams together.

The actors did a very good performance and I received positive feedbacks for my work. It's so surreal. I can't believe how things moved so fast. I just submitted my script hoping at least one person from a random company will read it. And now, here I am. Working for an international film company.

Hearing famous actors bring my written words to life, my imagination turning into tangible reality, I can't help but feel a little emotional.

As the reading ended, I was approached by Alicia and few other more high ranking people of Enthralled.

"Wonderful job Miss Curtis!" Alicia started.

"Thank you very much!" I replied with my heart swelling up with pride and joy.

"Now tell me, how do you feel about a sequel? Two more to be exact." she continued.

I looked at her with my mouth agape. I looked at the rest of the executives giving me an encouraging look. And I responded by cupping my face in between my hands.

"How can you all have this so much trust on a rookie like me?" I thought to myself.

It's so unbelievable.

"Well?" Alicia cocked her head to one side while giving me a warm smile.

I broke away from my musings and replied.

"I would very much want to! Thank you so much! I'll work really hard." I said with a full determination.

"Keep up the good work Miss Curtis!" she responded placing a hand on my shoulder briefly before turning away to talk to one of the staff from production.

All the other executives shook my hand one by one in a congratulatory gesture.

"Congratulations,Sam!" Brent walked towards me with a hug.

"Thank you so much!" I replied still trying to recover from what just happened.

"Congratulations! Looking forward to more twists and turns you have in store for the next two sequels." Henry Davidson approached me extending his hand.

"Thank you very much!" I replied taking his hand in response.

I'm a woman of words but right now, all I can seem to reply is thank you. My head just went blank from everything that took place. One thing is for sure though, I really am grateful.

I went back to my apartment after the table read feeling very elated and motivated. To be honest, I have a bit of a feeling that if this mystery movie will receive good feedback from the audience, they might ask for a sequel so I started writing drafts for it ahead of the time.

So I can say, this will be a bit easier from here. I'm still in cloud nine thinking they asked for sequels even before we started production for the first one. Who on their right mind would do such thing?

Well, they're the veterans here. So I have to trust their judgement. And of course, believe in my own skills.

I shrugged off the doubt and started working. I really love writing so much that I easily let myself get lost into the world of my imagination.

I remember the first time I picked up a book the very first moment I learned how to read and that was the beginning of my love affair with books. Also, grateful to my parents who imparted this wonderful gift to me.

I spent countless hours reading and it transported me into different worlds that I never had an idea about. It always leaves me in awe with how skilled the authors are in leaving imprints of different thoughts and emotions in me. And so, reading inspired me to create stories of my own.

When I'm completely into something, I barely notice my surroundings. That's why I almost missed it when I received an email notification.

I checked it and saw that it's from my lawyer.

"Good day Ms. Curtis. I just want to let you know that your divorce settlements with Mr. Levesque is already finalized. I will be sending you a copy of the divorce decree in a few days time."

I read it again for the second time, it's done. I'm officially single again. I should be happy and celebrating that I'm free but why am I having some mixed emotions?

Thank you to Daoistynothg for the powerstone! Appreciate it so much!❤️ And sorry for the late uploads.
