First Impressions Don't Always Last

Samantha Curtis is in an arranged marriage with a very handsome rich guy 6 years her senior. On the first meeting, he downright turned the idea down. But circumstances happened and they ended up together with the condition that they shouldn't fall for each other. Can they keep up with it? Hello lovely people! This is my first time writing and I really appreciate it if you can support me and try to give my novel a read. I'll try to publish chapters as regularly as I could! :) P.S. The image I used for my book cover isn't mine. Took it from a free sharing platform and didn't cover the artist's signature.

Changes

I woke up in the morning feeling refreshed. I made myself some breakfast- as always. And afterwards, got myself ready for work.

I reached the workplace a bit earlier than usual today. Surprisingly, the morning traffic wasn't so bad. I parked my car and headed towards the elevators. Got off on my floor, reached for my desk and prepared the day's agenda.

Slowly, people started coming in and occupying their respective desks. The light buzz of conversations started filling the air. Mr. Levesque came in and cheerfully gave us his regular morning greetings and we of course, greeted him back.

Few minutes later, he poked his head out from his office door and called for me. I gently knocked on the door and let myself in, as he saw me approaching, he looked at me with a smile and motioned for me to sit down. I gave him a puzzled look but obeyed.

"Samantha." he addressed me warmly.

"As you know, my son has returned from overseas and he's taking over the film company. And with that, Mom decided that I let you go and have you transferred to work for Chace as his secretary." he continued.

I know Nan isn't the type who easily gives up and though I wasn't expecting this is how she'll do things, I had the " I see what you did there" type of moment.

"So I'm giving you two days to brief my new secretary of everything you'll leave behind. Will that be enough?" he asked

"Yes. Thank you. And it was a pleasure working for you, sir." I smiled in reply although still a bit stunned with the turn of events.

He smiled back and briefly shed the professionalism in his tone "I know Mom can be headstrong and so is my son. I don't like seeing you getting caught with them trying to battle it out. I've known you since you were little and always thought of you as family."

I smiled back at him trying to hold back the tears from brimming on my eyelids as I was getting a bit emotional.

"I understand where Mom is coming from but I also know that when it comes to matters of the heart, you really can't tell the people involved what to do. I hope you and Chace can find a common ground." he smiled again.

"I'm hoping for that as well sir." I replied knowing full well that our only common ground is, us walking to opposite directions with our respective lives. I stood up and shook his hand with a smile as my farewell.

I did a once-over of everything with Nina, the new secretary, for the last time just to make sure we didn't miss anything. "Well, that's about it. I think we're all set." I said looking at her.

"Thank you for organizing everything so neatly so I don't have any problem settling in with the job." she replied gratefully.

"Don't mention it." I replied with a smile.

After checking everything and making sure I got all my stuff, I bid my last farewells to my boss and my workmates.

"Well, let's see what the film company has in store for me." I thought to myself as I made my way down to the parking area.
