Secret Place

"Surprise." Xiao Lei grinned while driving.

Mei looked through the window as Xiao Lei drove through the highway. The window was open on her side, but Lei's window was closed since he couldn't support the overwhelming wind because of his sensitive eyes that would tear up because of the breeze.

The breeze blew her beautiful violet hair, and her purple eyes shone as each light on the highway reflected on them although her expression reflected sadness and pain.

After an hour or two, Chen Mei started to feel refreshed. A small grin appeared on her lips as she admired the beautiful night. The thought of her decreased lover has faintly faded away from her mind. She felt as if he was near by, and he would never leave her as she finally had something he left behind for her to remember him through; which is the necklace.

"We're here." Xiao Lei announced as he went on a more deserted place. He parked the car and took off his seat belt, getting off Mei's car.

Chen Mei did the same. She wasn't sure what to do. She looked at the time on her phone screen. It was already 11 pm. She wasn't sure what this man wanted from her first of all. She only jokingly agreed to date him and she knew he was messing around as well. He was simply intrigued by her. But why couldn't she bring herself to tell him that she doesn't want to meet him anymore? That was a mystery to her as well.

Lei, on the other hand, seemed very happy. He brought her to his secret place. A place he found before his father's death and he found peace here whenever he came. He hoped that Mei would like this place as well. She wasn't the one he loved, he knew. But he felt something special around her.

"So? What's this place?" Mei asked as she looked around trying to see what exactly he wanted to show her.

Xiao Lei chuckled, Mei was just too cute in his eyes.

"Not here," he grabbed Mei's hand gently and started walking. "This way," he added as he dragged her along with him.

After walking for around five minutes, they arrived on top of a cliff. The view from there was extremely beautiful. All the buildings were lightened up. There were green, red, blue, yellow, white lights all over the place. There was a lake just below the cliff. Although it was far in distance, it looked extremely close since they were standing high on a cliff.

There was also a field with all colors of flowers that made the view even more enjoyable around the dark blue lake that reflected the night's color.

Mei covered her mouth in shock. Her eyes shone brightly, surrounded by the lights of the city. She was unable to take her eyes off such a beautiful sight. It was probably one of the most prettiest scenarios she has ever seen.

"Beautiful, right?" Xiao Lei asked with a grin on his face.

He felt relieved seeing her reaction. He thought maybe she wouldn't like it. But he was very grateful that she seemed to enjoy the view.

"I hope it makes you feel better. You know, about what happened... uhh…" he scratched his hair, a little embarrassed as he knew he was partly at fault. "About what happened in the club back there. I didn't know it would make you upset." He sighed, feeling guilty of making her cry. He never intended to do so.

"It's fine." Mei said as she took a deep breath. "Thanks to you I found something very precious." Her gaze was towards the necklace she found because of him as she lifted her gaze towards the lights once again smiling gently.

"That's good then." Lei hesitantly spoke, trying to hide his jealousy for the unknown man who made the present for her. After all, he seemed to hold a very special place inside her heart. 'Maybe it's the father of that child,' he thought to himself.

"Who is he?" Xiao Lei finally asked, breaking the silence and awkwardness.

"He..." Mei was out of words to describe Chen Rui.

She chuckled awkwardly. "Hah."

What was she even supposed to say? He is her ex husband? Her lover who died trying to save her? The love of her life? What is Rui to her, she never found the words to describe, as he was her everything. Family, friend, lover, all in one person.

"You don't have to tell me... It's okay. I understand." Lei forcedly smiled as he didn't want to pressure Mei with his stupid questions. "It's not like we are lovers or anything for real." He said bitterly.

Mei and Lei, both knew that the boyfriend and girlfriend thing was just something they were doing for fun. They both knew the other didn't feel the same. Yet for some reason, that reality stung their hearts respectively.

"Why does it kinda hurt?" They both wondered although deep inside they started realizing that the other was starting to have more meaning into their life then they have expected.

"Ah, right. Before I forget to tell you. I'm going on a business trip." Lei walked closer to his car as he faced his back to Mei.

Mei looked towards him, kinda surprised.

"You're leaving?" She asked trying to not show her disappointment.

"Haha." Lei laughed. "Why are you making it sound like I'm divorcing you or something? We are breaking up. Plus, it's not like we were actually dating, right?" Lei questioned as he was trying to ease his own feelings. There was a storm going on within him and he was afraid to show it to Mei.

"She wouldn't want a weak man. Would she?" He thought as he turned around to face her as he faked a bright smile.

Mei smiled in return and went near the car as well.

"Have a good trip then, Lei. We can be good friends, hopefully. You're not… a bad person." She said before getting inside the car.

***

Lei drove the car silently. None of them uttered a word. They were equally busy figuring out why they both felt some sort of disappointment without finding the answer.
