Chapter 29: Vampire

Our laughs finally quieted down after a long moment. "I have so many questions", I said hurriedly, once I caught my breath. "You May ask", he said politely. My first question was, "Do you catch fire in the sun?". He rolled his eyes and said, "No, my eyes are sensitive and the light is bothersome. I see the world differently then most, with much more detail.". I went to continue and he held his hand up, "Also I like garlic, yes I can read minds, and no I do not turn into a bat for fun and fly around". I had to giggle at that last part.

I composed myself and continued, "Do you eat people?". He had a stern look on his face when he responded, "I do not senselessly kill. That is a rule of this house, no killing without proper provocation. If I lived elsewhere, I would still refrain from such monstrosity. I do drink blood as required by my kind, but only from willing participants or familiars."

His answer spurred another question, "What do you mean by familiars?". He thought about his response before starting, "Familiars are humans that are aware of supernatural creatures. These humans sometimes help with various beings wants or needs. They get enjoyment from it.". I'm pretty sure he means fetishes, but I'm not going down that wormhole today.

On a serious note, I had to ask, "How does a vampire join a pack of shifters?". He laughed then began, "To understand why I am here now, first you must understand vampires. I am a pure blood. My parents were vampires and I, their biological child. They and I were never turned. Our blood line came from the beginning, like very few do. Most pure bloods were hunted and killed throughout the centuries but I survived. The vampires that people hear about now are a diluted lot. They run on blood lust and are mostly known for the vile things they do. So, you see, I did not fit in with "my kind" any longer", he said putting "my kind" in air quotes.

"I've known Michael now for over one-hundred years. He was not scared of me like some or envious like others. He has only treated me like a normal being and I respect him greatly for that.

Micheal told me about fifty years ago he was creating his own pack and that it would be different from any other grouping before it. He told me that all supernaturals were welcome as long as we all held a similar purpose.", he said. "What purpose is that?", I asked. Chase continued, "The purpose is to create unity. All the supernatural beings were separated for so long but in the last couple of years we have worked hard to bring everyone together. We should learn from each other and stop the fighting. There will always be hunters and humans that do not understand difference, so why make it more difficult by staying segregated? We have stopped wars in the short period of time we have come together and I'm excited for what we can do in the many years to come.". His words were spoke with such passion he had me hanging on every sentence. There was so much more at play in this house then I ever realized.

I had one last question, "There are only five of you in this house. How do five beings make that much of a difference?". Chase smiled then said, "Yes, there are five in this house, six, if you decide to stay.". I ignored the, if you decide to stay part and he continued, "We are the main pack house. There are more houses and more sub units. This whole town consists mostly of supernatural beings or familiars that share the same purpose.".

Chase said the whole town was primarily supernaturals... the thought was crazy to me. Their pack had to be the largest out there. I wondered how many different beings were really joined in with them. It was ridiculously hard to wrap my head around everything he said.

Chase stood from his seat and turned to me. "Come Little Wolf. Let us go freshen up before dinner.", he said while putting his hand out for me to grab. I took his hand and he pulled me up from the couch. "Can I walk you to your room?", I heard his voice inside my head. "Yes", I said out loud not really sure on how to respond to him without speaking out loud yet.
