CHAPTER 5:

And just like that,Sue was to be married next month.it was all arranged without her consent of course.

Sue suddenly felt a dire need for fresh air.She was stuck in her room for what seemed like forever like some sort of caged animal. She quickly brushed her teeth and set off for school .

Before she left ,she saw her father in the sitting room gazing at something without even blinking .

She gave him a fake smile that reflected the exact opposite of what she felt inside. She felt broken and worst of all, utterly frustrated.

When she got to school, she strolled into the counsellor office, Her only trusted confidante. She was just about to have brunch . Sue sat down opposite her on the soft couch. It was a PB&J sandwich for what she could see. Her eyes became glued instantly but she tried to divert her gaze .Her stomach rumbled like crazy .She hoped that she didn't hear it, it would have been definitely embarrassing . She forgot to have breakfast at home as she was in deep thought with all the other domestic issues she was trying to deal with.Miss Carla noticed her greedy little eyes and smiled. She halved the sandwich and offered half to the grinning student who accepted and gobbled it all at once.Sure she wasn't suppose to take food from strangers but Carla was well passed that right ?

'HOW TO START A CONVERSATION WITH A SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD'Carla thought inwardly.A few minutes later, she was to found out that it wasn't that difficult especially if said teenager was burdened with huge problems...

"I have something to tell you,l need your advice" Sue blurted out as if the words burned in her mouth.

"Okay ,go on"Carla said reassuringly as she finished her sandwich.

"I've been failing my classes recently"

"Why?"

Sue hesitated as she nibbled quietly on her meal.

Carla gave Sue her winning reassuring smile that could make anyone talk and spoke in a kind friendly way

" We have got patient and doctor confidentiality. What ever you say stays in this room".

That encouraged her.

"Um..... I'm getting married to a boy I barely know next month and I'm sure I will hate! What should I do?"

Carla was shocked beyond measure. she had never heard of something like that in her entire 25 years of life.Well maybe she had but still It was cruel, inhumane . A person should marry for love and not for convenience and it wasn't as if it was her decision but her parents !

How could they be so cold?

"Can't you contact social child services ?" She was outraged.stupid, but that was all she could say.

Sue shrugged "My dad would just bribe them all the way." Sue sunk on the couch. 'I have no hope .My fate is doomed".

Carla smiled again but that only did little to hide her inept hatred for a parent she had never seen ."Don't give up kiddo . Always fight to change your destiny. Fate isn't permanent or set in stone. Even if it is no one can decide the way you live it."YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR FATE, BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE WILL."

On her way out ,she saw Taylor . Sue wanted to apologise for not attending her sleepover and totally blowing her off but when Taylor came up to her and asked her what happened instead she did the exact opposite. She debated on whether or not to say the truth.

Of course, She did the latter.

"I'm so sorry. My favourite great aunt just died and....". She blabbed and turned on the waterworks to add to this effect.

It was fake.

Obviously.

"Oh I'm sorry and I was interrogating you. I didn't know ."Taylor said awkwardly as she tried to console her friend..

At least It was a half truth. Her great aunt had died on this very same day ...

One year ago.

At least she made up with her friend." Yipee " she thought .One down ,a million to go.

After school was over, she took a long walk.

She didn't want to go to her toxic home. That was the last place she wanted to be right now.She just wanted to think.

Sue silently wished she could have had a normal life. Not the daughter of the fairly rich , but a normal kid.

But she was also aware of how many people would kill to be in her shoes.

I guess we want what we don't have, don't we?.

When she was six, she had an evil tutor, Mrs Cobblesmith ,who taught her weird things like judoka ?

We are in the 21st century, Like who does that ?

She would have continued pondering , but her stomach was about to start a gruesome war.

She just ignored it as she thought more on how to 'CHANGE HER FATE'.

"I could just take the car , fill it to the brim with gas and drive off into the sunset, never looking back, but that had a lot of loopholes '.she thought .

1. No cash (on hand).

2. No shelter.

3. No extra clothes .

4. No job.

5. No premeditated destination in mind.

6. No food or water.

7.How would I survive?

She could list a million other reasons . Her choices was limited so the only option was;

STAY,GET MARRIED, PLEASE HUSBAND, HAVE 100 KIDS ,NO LIFE, NO DREAM AND THEN WHAT;

ROT?

NO! She was going to change her fate.she had to.

The war had begun and she couldn't ignore it now .
