EMILY'S POV.

The next time I opened my eyes, the suns rays were playing on my face through the open window.

"Good morning, ma'am." I heard a maid say, and tilted my head upwards, slightly to look at her.

"What happened?" I asked, and she came to my bedside.

"You fainted, and we had to rush you to the hosoital. The doctor said you had outdone yourself, and were being stressed physically, mentally, and emotionally." She said, and I groaned.

"Who said I was struggling mentally and emotionally? Did he open up the walls of my mind to see? Is he a psychologist? I was completely fine yesterday morning, until I began to work like I had twenty maids imbued in me." I snapped, and she smiled.

I didn't want John thinking in the least that he managed to get a reaction from me, or that anything he was doing was getting to me. He had decided to torture me, and proclaim us as enemies. There was no way I could show my weakness no matter how hurt, sad, depressed, and defeated I felt.

"The doctor said you needed rest, but Alpha John said to give you this." She said, handing me another blank paper on which no doubt was my work for the day written down.

I wanted to act strong, and see what else he had in store for me, but my hands found it incredibly hard to move to take the paper.

I didn't want to work. Tiredness rested in every bone. No!

With my mind screaming and shouting, I raised my hand, and accepted the paper coolly like it was no big deal.

I only needed three years to pass. Just three years, and even if it cost me everything, I'd get back at John.

Fortunately, there weren't any house chores on the list, and relief crashed upon my soul. A little grateful smile played on my lips, before I erased it immediately.

"You can leave." I said to her, and she smiled, bowed, and left my room. Immediately, she did, I sat up and groaned in pain.

My muscles were cramping. I didn't want her to see me in pain. I wanted everyone to think I was fine because that was the only way I could truly be fine.

I had never worked that much all my life. My house was small, and whenever I wanted to help Dahlia, she only gave me a few things to clean. Never had I ever cleaned up to five rooms at once, but the previous day, I had cleaned a whole lot of rooms.

And I had done that on an empty stomach. My stomach churned loudly, as I thought of food, and I looked at it. It was so flat that any more starving, and my ribs would pop out.

I didn't want that. Maybe fainting had been to my advantage. If I hadn't, I might have seen more chores on the blank paper.

I raised the paper once more, and looked at it. It was a single task, but had several others listed under it.

Thankfully, it seemed somewhat like the job of a secretary. I'd never been a secretary, so I didn't know what exactly secretaries handled, and what they didn't, but the task seemed less tedious, compared to cleaning.

My task was sorting documents into folders. The documents contained information on particular topics, so I was to compile the documents that contained similar topics.

He had listed the topics underneath. Medical, phenomenal, business, technology, Development…. Blah, blah, blah….

I sighed, and decide to get my day started first.

I prepared myself with less enthusiasm than the day before, and put on a light gray suit. My hair was packed on my head in a bun because I knew I didn't want to be sorting documents, with my hair falling over my face.

Time had to be my companion because he had labeled everything with time.

I greeted the maids cheerily, and went to the hall on which the offices were located. Katie wasn't in hers, and for a while, I wondered about her, before cautioning myself.

Then I saw my name written in front of a door— My office.

I walked to it, and pushed the door open, only for my jaw to fall.

On a little desk in the cramped space was a large heap of papers scattered all around.

I went back to my task list. There was no way I'd finish it in time. Everything was disordered and too much.

"Damn you! Damn you!!" I spat under my breath, with my fists clenching.

I sat and wondered where I was to start from. I had absolutely no idea. There wasn't even enough space for me to start separating everything. John was petty and childish. Why did he give me such an office? There wasn't even air conditioning, and I began to sweat.

Also, I doubted he needed the papers. Important documents would never be as scattered as the ones in front of me were.

"This won't do." I said to myself, and packed all the papers into a box.

I left the cramped office, and went to the dining table, spreading out all the papers and folders.

My tummy growled. Where was I to get the time for eating?

"Ma'am, would you like breakfast? You haven't eaten since yesterday." One of the maids asked.

"No. Food will make me weak, tired, and in need of rest." I replied, trying to focus hard, but in two minutes, I had called her back.

"Maybe a snack? Or, no…a burger. A cool burger." I said, and sighed. Thankfully, the stranger didn't have to see all this. I meant Alpha Lucas.

Seeing me being treated like trash… he'd think low of me. Not to talk of the fact that I had forced myself on him. Well, wherever he was, I was glad he was staying there.

My burger was served quickly, and immediately after my first swallow, my tummy began to rage. The creatures there were violent; tearing apart the food along with my insides.

I ate hungrily while working, and found a way to get the hang of it. It was a lot, but I could manage well.

"Can I have more?" I asked, pointing to my burger with my mouth full. No one needed to take another look at me before they saw a starving person.

John was despicable. He had turned a slow, and careful eater, into a fast-munching, mouth-filling, and careless eater.

More burgers were brought, and slowly I began to feel alive. I took sips of water occasionally, and my concentration improved.

The maids gave me privacy, so I could concentrate, and with everywhere quiet, I was able to think properly, and focus on it.

Unfortunately, a piece of beef fell onto one of the papers, and I began to dab at it.

"No, no, no, don't leave a stain." I pleaded, even though I knew it was futile. I stared at the stain, and grumbled. My only hope was for John not to notice.

I returned to the slow, and careful eater I was known for, and continued to work, trying not to make any additional mistakes until I was disturbed once more.

This time, it wasn't the maids.

It was John, and he wandered in, with a lady in his arms, her legs wrapped around his waist, hands threaded around his hair and neck.

They were kissing wildly.
