1 Chapter 1: The Newborn Monster

The summer was egregiously hot and everyday he walked from school all the way home. He felt as if he could just die right there on the sidewalk, but then he felt something cold touch his feet. It felt unusually cold, to the point where it started to feel painful.

He looked below and saw that ice was slowly growing out from the ground and up towards him. His feet were already frozen, he couldn't feel his toes, his legs started to freeze, then he couldn't feel those, next was his waist, then to his hands, then to the chest, and finally he screamed and he yelled.

He couldn't feel anything, all was numb and yet it hurt oh, so much. When the ice finally reached his neck he couldn't breathe, he couldn't yell or scream, there in fear, his eyes saw the sun, and his face felt the warmth one last time.

He couldn't see, he couldn't feel, he couldn't smell, he couldn't move, he couldn't do anything. It was all dark, he expected a god, or maybe even heaven, but none of that came.

However a light started to show from the darkness, but it was entirely something different. He saw his tiny, little hands, his tiny, little feet. He could finally feel movement so he tried to move his tiny, little fingers and toes.

He could finally see around him, especially the bright light he saw before. However the light was just a lantern that was hanging from the ceiling above him.

Then he realized that everything around him was so loud, his ears felt like they were ringing. He moved his tiny, little head and around him were a group of people in white robes chanting some sort of spell. The language was unknown to him and he became extremely frightened.

However, he could only cry and wail because he was only a newborn.

He was, but on a pedestal for everyone to see! The men and women gathered around him held hands and they started to yell rather than chant! The yelling then became blood-curdling screams! Then he started to feel something crawl inside him, a marking started to appear on his stomach!

However, the pain was ten times worse compared to the ice that was crawling on his skin from before!

As the baby he was, he screamed even louder, but to no avail. Then it came to a sudden end, the people around him stopped chanting and they looked relieved, they all hugged each other, it might be over, he thought.

However, a final rush of immense pain came forth and he struggled to not black out. The people around him quickly rushed over to him and as soon they tried to touch him they instantly froze in place.

The pain then suddenly stopped again and he finally blacked out.

This time he woke up in a crib, in a new room. Around him were a set of plushies and toys. He also felt a presence hanging above him, it was a beautiful woman, one that he wouldn't have even dared to meet back in his past life.

His first thought in this world wasn't just pain, now it was her. "Who is she?" He thought and his mouth followed those words, but out came gibberish instead.

The lady then picked him up out of his crib and grabbed a bottle of milk from the nearby table.

And in her language she asked, "are you thirsty? Hungry?" She gently wrapped the blanket around him. Her hands were as soft as silk, he thought.

She fed him the milk until he couldn't drink any more.

"Full now aren't ya'." She smiled and in his eyes he thought she was an angel.

Then the door slammed open,

"heya Lily!"

"Sam, not so loud!"

"Oh, so this is where the little monster is hiding?" He tried to reach for the baby, but Lily shoved him away.

"Careful…"

Sam noticed her worried look, then he anxiously looked at the baby and backed off, "anyways… have they given him a name?"

"I think his name is…" She tried to put a finger on it to recall, "ah! His name is Fen."

Sam laughed, "Fen the Fenrir huh! Now that's funny!"

Now as a baby, he wished he could speak up, he didn't think much of his name, but he didn't hate it either. Instead he felt a little woozy maybe a bit sleepy.

"Looks like he's starting to sleep…" Lily gently laid Fen down back in the crib.

"Anyways, back to business." Sam was preparing to leave, but then invited Lily to come with him. "The guild master wants to see you."

Lily worryingly looked at him, "oh..."

In the guild master's quarters everything was in pristine, tight condition. The bookshelf was organized by alphabet, there was also no dust anywhere. The room smelled uncomfortably clean, as if it was sprayed in bleach. This organized, perfectionist who wanted nothing short of perfect also wanted nothing short of anything being late, but guess who was late, "that damn Sam! Why is he taking so long!"

"Heya Vathys!" Sam slammed the door open.

"My door!" Vathys, the guild master, quickly rushed over to look for any scratches and cracks that resulted from the door being violently swung open.

Sam couldn't say it, but even he thought that the guild master was a bit to freaky, more so than the Fen, the monster child.

"Ahem... anyways I've brought Lily."

"You brought her late!" Vathys exclaimed.

"You're quite an... interesting fellow as usual." Lily smiled.

After Vathys was done inspecting his door he told them to sit down on the couch and offered to give them tea.

He then also sat down and seriously looked at the two of them, "the child..."

Lily continued her smiling façade, but her eyes gave a bloodthirsty sneer, "what about him..."

Vathys gulped down his anxiety, "I heard he hosts that demonic wolf inside him."

"So what if he does?"

"That power even killed the Chanters around him..."

"Where are you going with this..." Her hair started to stand on all ends.

"We could use him..."

The air around Lily was slowly starting to crackle, it started to freeze, "you're standing on very thin ice, guild master." Her smile was slowly disappearing.

"The rumors are spreading and sooner or later they will start looking for him. They WILL want him." Vathys lowered his cup of tea and continued, "work under us, live under our banner, we could protect you and the child."

Lily was enraged, "I know you just want him all to yourself. You're no different than the people you speak of."

"You're either going to be on the run, alone, or with us and have guards."

Sam then butted in, "Lily, it's dangerous right now, even more so with that child and we don't want him getting in the wrong hands and I, for one, also don't want to see you getting hurt."

Lily glared at him, "getting hurt? Who do you think you're talking too?"

Vathys interjected, "it's either you fighting alone, or with us. What's it going to be?"

Lily started to think, she was still quite furious, but inside she knows that if word of the child were to escape that he was here, right now, then all sorts of people would come after him.

Fen was now the most precious person in her life, even if he wasn't her child, "he's my one and only nephew..."

"And?" Vathys asked.

"If he ever dies on your hands, I'll turn you into ice and kill you myself."

"Then it's a deal!" Vathys smiled and offered to shake hands with her, but she ignored it and left without saying a word. Sam followed after her.

"Lily..." Sam grabbed her by the shoulder.

Lily turned around and tears were flowing down from her cheek, "I wish my sister was still here..." She cried.

Sam struggled to say anything that he ended up not saying anything at all.

Meanwhile back in Fen's room he thought to himself, "I wonder where she is... it's starting to stink real bad..."

The door then slammed open!

"Quiet... you might wake him..." Lily hushed.

Sam then noticed the pungent smell of shit, "I-I think he's already awake..." He walked right back outside, "I think I'll wait here..."

Lily noticed it too and started looking for a new pair of diapers plus a trash bag. She was now ready to change the diaper, but she thought it was strange that the child wasn't crying about his dirty, stinky, diaper.

The smell increasingly became worse so she ignored that thought and rushed to clean Fen up.

Meanwhile in the guild master's quarters, Vathys was greeted by one of his attendants.

She was shivering, obviously scared, panicking like mad, and what she had to say was some unsettling news that she wished she never had.

"They're coming!"
