Ballet

Prologue

"Right foot up, right foot down, tippy toes, twirl, jump, and another twirl," Addison said as if they were lovestruck.

"...Okay?" Lucas said in reply, sounding like he had been tricked.

"What do you mean "Okay"? Don't you get it? The elegance and beauty of ballet is immaculate!" Addison complained.

"Eh. I prefer more brazen and athletic activities like basketball."

"Nah~ Ballet is much more beautiful, elegant, and delicate!"

"Definitely not. Atleast, I don't think so," Lucas shrugged.

"Hmph, I'll show you the art of ballet, the truest beauty to exist!" Addison pouted.

"Yeah, yeah. But, say that when you actually do ballet."

"Of course I will. Just wait and see!"

"Alright," Lucas laughed.

The two kids continue to gush about their passions as the wind blows and the soft rain falls. The rain later comes to a stop, as well as the wind, and the clouds clear, revealing warm sunlight. The light passes through the curtain and window and gently falls on the children's small sleeping faces.

"I'm home..." Addison's mom called with a sigh.

Addison's mom walks into the living room and sees Addison and Lucas asleep with their head resting on the living room table.

"You kids..." Addison's mom said, smiling gently. Addison's mom goes up the kids.

"You two should know better than to sleep out here. Especially you, Lucas," Addison's mom whispered.

"Mm... Auntie?" Lucas asked blankly.

"Mm, I'm here," Addison's mom said.

"Ah- You're home."

"Yeah. If you don't mind, wake up Addi, please?"

"Okay." Lucas gets up and gently nudges Addison.

"Addi? Addi, wake up."

Addison slowly opens their eyes and rubs their right eye.

"Mm? What time is it?"

"It's 11:48, if you're still tired, go sleep in your room. Unless you haven't eaten yet, we can eat together," Addison's mom said.

"Ah, mom! You're back!" Addison says with excitement.

"Mm."

"We haven't eaten yet so we could join you."

"Alright, Lucas, you're parents are still away, so why don't you stay?"

"Alright. I hope I'm not disturbing you."

"Of course not. Now, lets eat."

"Okay." Both Addison and Lucas said simultaneously.

After dinner, Lucas and Addison got ready to go to bed. Before going to Addison's room, Addison turns to her mom.

"Hey, mom?" Addison asked.

"What is it, Addi?" Addison's mom replied.

"Do you think I can do ballet? I know we don't have a lot of money but..."

"...Of course you can. And if I can't pay for it, I could always just take a loan."

"Are you sure?"

"Mm."

Addison smiles happily then enters her bedroom.

Addison's mom gently smiles then goes to her room as well. Addison's mom sighs and rubs her feet. Looking out the window from her bed, she looks sullen. Addison's mom closes her eyes before tears could flood them.

"Addi deserves much better than this, I have to do better to earn more money to support Addi's dream," Addison's mom whispers to herself.

Addison's mom sets the alarm to 4:30 and lays on her bed.

"Ah... I should prepare my clothes for tomorrow first," Addison's mom says.

Addison's mom gets up and goes to her closet. She pulls out a long red wine colored split dress and neatly folds it into a bag. Addison's mom also takes out thin gloves and a pair of heels, both the same color as the dress. She walks over to her small jewelry box on her bedside table and opens it. Inside were a pair of ruby earrings and a ruby necklace. They were from Addison's father before he passed in an incident. Putting the jewelry in the bag, Addison's mom closes the box and puts it into the last drawer of the table. Closing the drawer, Addison's mom then hides the bag under the bedside table.

Sighing, Addison's mom thinks to herself, "Now to prepare my uniform for the convenience store..."

Addison's mom goes back to the closet and prepares her uniform. Once she finished, Addison's mom went to bed.

In Addison's room, Addison lays down on their bed, starring at the ceiling decorated with flowers, vines, and birds. Addison's smile was as big as it could be and their dark blue eyes sparkled like sapphire.

Closing their eyes, they dreamed of dancing gracefully. As light as a feather and as elegant as a flower.
