Waiting
Lizzie sat to the kitchen table waiting for mark to open his mouth again. "Well lizzie there is a lot we need to discuss. I know you think I'm crazy but what we told you is the truth. I once knew your father, he was a great and powerful man who loved your mother unconditionally" he declared, looking at her as if she was a ticking time bomb "Huh, my father was a coward. He left my mother with a child barely out of Med School so he could enjoy his amazing powerful dangerous life. Even though my mother was a doctor she struggled everyday, she struggled to be my father and my mother while barley being home half the time. I love.. loved my mother, she was all I had even though she couldn't always be there. Where she fell short he should have stepped in, graduations!! Awards!! Dance and band concerts!! BIRTHDAYS! He should've been there for us!!! For me!!" Lizzie screamed as she clawed at the table "For his daughter, for his baby girl." She said as tears crawled down her face. Shakily she wiped her cheeks, the messy job did nothing but smear tears over her face. She slowly breathed in and out trying to fix her composure. When she was little she thought the world of her "deceased" paternal figure. In her mind she saw a handsome brown skinned man with gray eyes and a kind smile, a man who would've loved his daughter and was watching over her. Every birthday her birthmark would burn like a thousand hearths, lighting her body on fire, she would pray to god and look for her father in the pain for relief. She would talk to him and cry out for him to end the pain all night while holding the golden necklace wings he gave her and every birthday morning at 1:00am when the sun went away she would kiss her wings and hold them close to her chest. Although her mother never talked of her father, she still could figure out what he looked like. She would spend hours in front of the mirror distinguishing between whether she had her mom's nose or her father's, Dave. That was another things she didn't know for sure but she always liked the name Dave, Dave's were dads, kind and gentle dads so she wanted a dad named Dave. At 6 she declared that his name and wrote it everywhere. When she was 12 she'd say her father was a brave Police officer, officer Dave Tate Mack! She would tell elaborate and wildly excited tales about her father and his adventures that her mother supposedly told her. One day he was shot down during an epic drug bust and was awarded brilliant and shiny medals and buckets of money. She'd claim that during their house fire in Florida the medals and records were destroyed. But on a darker days when she resented her father for leaving her, she'd say her father was a dirty cop who was shot down in the streets after a mafia drug exchange, she'd say that his involvement caused their house to get burned down and that's why they moved to North Carolina. In truth all she knew about him was that her mother met him during a peace rally and that at one point he loved them. Now this man is telling her that he was a good man?! A good man doesn't abandon their children, he's not dead, he's more than able to save her yet he chooses not to. He's a demon and a devil and she hates him. " Your father, Gabriel, was an excellent man and he loved you. He once told me that he sees how you crave him, he hears your cries at night, he sees the misery on your birthday and he weeps everyday for his daughter. He punishes himself for not being able to love you as you should be, he loves you from a far more than you will ever know. One day you will understand his reasons. Your father is the archangel Gabriel, he is the angel of war and destruction. He is a loyal servant to god and to the people on earth. One day Gabriel was given a mission, called a Savior or Holy crusade, to come to earth and bring peace to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. A peace riot was happening and God could foresee the destruction it would cause so he sent Gabriel to keep the peace or eliminate the problem. But something went wrong, one day at a rally he met the most furious, beautiful, irresistible woman. The feeling was so foreign, he had never before been attracted to a woman or man for that matter. So the overwhelming need for this woman overtook him completely, he got to know your mother and whoo'd her for days till she gave him a chance. He completely forgot about his mission to eliminate the rally general who was secretly making bombs. They shared a passion and a bond so bright it blinded those who could see it and then they conceived you, your mother was so happy when she found out and so was your father. He was just lucky she gave the awkward white "police officer" a chance after she found out his secret." White?!! Lizzie raised a hand to stop him "I know you did not just say my daddy is white?" She asked with her head cocked to the side "I thought my daddy was black man. You know black hair, black skin, grey eyes". He chuckled "Well I can assure you Gabriel is as white as my bathrooms. He's so white he's sparkly, technically "pure". Gabriel, when he came down here in human form, was a pale white kid with shaggy short cut black hair, gray eyes just like yours, he decided to keep his angel eyes for that form, and dimples just like yours. When I asked about his form, he said it was his proudest, 1) because your mother couldn't get enough of him and 2) because it was the closest to his true form. Your mother fell head over heels for his dimples, you see I almost had her but then he had to come swooping in with those damn dimples. I knew your mother since she was 18, we met when I met Emilia my mate. When we joined the association we met again like nothing ever happened, that's around the time she met your father." He said with a shrug, she choked on a laugh and smiled helplessly at him flashing her dimples. "Get those woman stealers away from me" he exclaimed dramatically. She giggled wildly, popping them out more. Slowly her smile faded "If he loved us why did he leave?" She said quietly while shaking her silky coils. "Gabriel had a deadline on the crusade and when it was resolved he had to leave. He spent about 3 months with you and your mother before he was called back. In heaven at the time and angel could only visit earth during a crusade or once a year and for the rest of their lives they are bound to heaven. Once Gabriel conceived you god banned him from leaving heaven unless he was strictly requested for, for years. He decided to honor the mate bond from then on giving mates a choice. Either live in heaven unable to visit earth again or stay on earth and face death when your partner dies. Since Gabriel defied him, he extended this choice to all mates but if your father would've claimed your mother she would've had to leave you here on earth all alone. Gabriel is an arch angel destined to protect all the world, it was never even a possibility for him to live on earth, his worth is too great. Instead of forgiveness they were punished, and the best way to punish someone is through their children. When you were born the Lord placed the mark of defiance or pain on the back of your shoulder. The mark is designed to burn with the fires of hell each birthday for their betrayal against him and with the goal of dampening your supernatural side. In addition he would have to suffer watching you unable to contact or protect you till you grew your wings to full maturity. Your mother was suppose to tell you about everything on your birthday but obviously she can't do that now so she left you in our care. We will teach you how to harness your powers and become the Savior your destined to be. I promise you that Lizzie."
