Chapter 46

"Shit!" The soldier blurted out a curse, showing even more irritation than before. The laughter of the other soldiers around him only served to increase his anger.

"My turn, defend yourself," said Rémy, throwing his spear away from his hand but not too far. He was ready to catch it with his other hand, but before he could react, something unexpected happened. The soldier struck an upward sword blow, aiming for Rémy's face.

The young warrior's hand was about to grab the spear, but he was momentarily paralyzed, surprised by the enemy's audacity. It was enough time for the sharp sword to approach his face, slowly sliding over the skin. Rémy felt the cold metal make its way into his flesh, causing him excruciating pain.

The blade mercilessly advanced until it reached Rémy's right eye, which was cut. The young man let out a scream of agony as the confident expression on his face turned into one of pain. The cut seemed to last an eternity, tearing the skin and leaving behind a red trail of blood.

Blood splattered from Rémy's face. The soldier who was fighting Rémy realized what he had done, moved by anger.

"What are you doing? It's not over yet, things are getting interesting now," Rémy said, catching his spear that was in the air. The wound on his face healed in a second, leaving only a scar and blinding one of his eyes.

"What?!" The soldier let out a cry of surprise to see Rémy's wound instantly heal when he caught the spear, even though he had also been scarred on the face and lost an eye.

"Don't get distracted, or you'll suffer the same fate as me," Rémy warned the surprised soldier, holding him by the arm and throwing him up with a pull.

"Ré, I'm coming..." Jeanne, who was already running towards him, stopped when Rémy raised his hand.

"So, who's next? I don't want to waste time," Rémy said, spinning his spear. He prevented Jeanne from acting because he deserved what happened to him for underestimating the soldier.

Gilles approached Rémy with a concerned look, analyzing him from top to bottom. He drew his sword from his waist, holding it firmly with both hands. Rémy remained calm, knowing that a demonstration of skills with another soldier would be very useful to improve his fighting techniques as well as theirs.

"So, it will be you, Gilles, who will fight me? That sounds exciting. I wanted to have the opportunity to train with other soldiers and improve their skills. A demonstration of strength doesn't hurt anyone," Rémy said with a smile on his face.

However, he did not underestimate his opponent. Gilles seemed strong and experienced, and Rémy expected a challenge. Gilles pointed to Rémy's lost eye with concern.

"Will your eye not interfere?"

Rémy shook his head confidently, holding his spear firmly.

"Don't worry, I can see perfectly well. My lost eye won't stop me from fighting with all my skill," Rémy replied.

Gilles quickly advanced towards Rémy, launching precise and fast strikes with his sword. Rémy defended himself skillfully, using his spear to block each attack. The metallic sounds of the weapons colliding echoed through the air as Rémy dodged Gilles' movements and counterattacked with skill.

The fight between the two soldiers was intense and exciting. Rémy demonstrated surprising skill, compensating for his lack of vision with his sharp reflexes and his ability to anticipate his opponent's movements.

Gilles was a skilled opponent, but Rémy seemed to always be one step ahead, dodging his attacks and counterattacking with precision. Rémy's spear seemed to move with an almost supernatural grace, always finding the weak point in Gilles' defense.

The fight continued for several minutes, and neither soldier seemed tired or willing to give up. Sweat dripped down Rémy's face, while one of his eyes shone with fierce determination. Gilles also seemed to be enjoying the fight, but his eyes were serious, focused on the battle.

Finally, after an intense exchange of blows, Rémy landed a decisive hit with his spear, disarming Gilles and leaving him defenseless. He lowered his spear, looking at Gilles with respect and admiration.

"You're a great warrior, Gilles. It was an honor to fight you," said Rémy, extending his hand to help him up.

"You're impressive even being blind in one eye, you managed to fight me without any problem and still win." Gilles took the hand that Rémy had extended to him. "You're strong too." Rémy really thinks Gilles is strong.

"Not strong enough to defeat me." Gilles joked, giving Rémy a pat on the shoulder. He picked up his sword from the ground and walked away.

"So, who's going to..." Rémy was about to say who would be next to fight him.

"No one. Now you're going to rest." Jeanne quickly arrived near Rémy, took his hand, and pulled him towards the tent where they slept.

The soldiers just watched, but still remembered the cut that Rémy had suffered, which instantly healed when he picked up his spear. Some soldiers looked at the spear that was in Rémy's hand.

"They still need to train." Rémy complained to Jeanne when he arrived inside the tent where they slept. "Next time you do something crazy, be more careful." Jeanne spoke with one hand on his face. She felt her heart stop when she saw that he had been cut by the sword of the soldier he was fighting. She thought his head would be split in half.

"Next time, I'll definitely be more careful. I don't want to lose another eye." Rémy joked, pointing to his eye that had been cut by the soldier's sword. "Can you heal this?" Rémy asked with a little hope, as he didn't want to be blind in one eye, even though it was his fault for faltering in the fight.

"I don't know, but I can try," said Jeanne. She approached Rémy and placed her hand on the area around his injured eye. Then, a golden light shone in her hand as she closed her eyes and concentrated her energy.

When she opened her eyes again, the light dissipated and she removed her hand from Rémy's face. To her surprise, the scar on his face had completely disappeared. Excited by the result, Jeanne asked, "Can you see now?"

Rémy opened his eye, but instead of seeing, there was only darkness. There was no eye there. Jeanne felt sad to see the disappointment on Rémy's face. "I'm sorry, I couldn't do it," she said, feeling disappointed with herself. "But I'll keep trying until I can."

"You don't have to worry about that, Jeanne," said Rémy, gently placing a hand on her shoulder. "I'm grateful for your help, but I don't want you to feel obligated to keep trying. I know you did your best." He smiled, trying to comfort her.

Jeanne smiled back, grateful for Rémy's support. She knew that this healing was a difficult challenge, but she was determined to find a solution. "Thank you, Rémy. I will work on this until I find a way to help you," she promised.
