Prologue

Aria Nikashi grew up no different than most humans. She had a father and mother. She even had two brothers and two sisters. Being the middle child kept her out of the spotlight most of the time.

They lived in the clichéd small town where everyone knew everyone and secrets and gossip ran rampant. the specific secrets that were kept from outsiders were a little more on the fantastical side though. In the sleepy town of Lansen, Washington, the only secret that was kept from outsiders was that it was a town of shifters. The majority was wolf shifters but there a few others within the town that were other types of shifters.

Aria's family were wolf and dragon shifters. There was only one slight problem with Aria in her family. They thought she wasn't a shifter at all. The only reason was Aria had never shifted in front of her family. She always claimed that she couldn't shift at all.

Aria had known from a very young age that she was different than most shifters. Especially since she was neither a dragon shifter nor a wolf shifter. Her beast had come long before most shifters were introduced to their beast at the age of 16. She'd been 6 when she first heard her beast Lila. One of the most important warnings Aria had been given was that she should never reveal her true self to anyone. She was one of the rarest shifters in the world. A Phoenix.
