Chapter 204: Self-directed Drama

Perhaps because the main storyline was about to come, Senichi had been feeling a sense of calm lately. The boundless sunshine and the transition from spring to early summer brought about a comfortable weather.

"Yeah, that's right. I want to report that near the Tokyo outskirts' New Mountain camping site, there are three people planning to bury a body! They even have firearms with them. You should hurry over!!"

After making the report with the help of disguise and voice-changing techniques, Senichi hung up the phone without waiting for the operator's response. He then quickly left the phone booth.

Next, he found a restroom nearby and removed his disguise in one of the cubicles. Nonchalantly, he headed back towards the police headquarters.

When Senichi returned to the police headquarters, he happened to see Inspector Megure on duty, who was frowning while talking on the phone with a telephone operator.

After waiting for a moment, once Inspector Megure hung up the phone, Senichi asked, "Is something wrong, Inspector Megure? Has there been a case?"

"Someone made a report."

Inspector Megure repeated what Senichi had reported earlier, then furrowed his brows and said, "But there's something fishy about this report. First of all, the caller reported anonymously. And even though they mentioned a camping site near Tokyo, the phone booth's area code is from within Tokyo city. I had it checked, and the location is even close to the police headquarters."

After a pause, Inspector Megure looked conflicted, "I suspect it might just be a prank call, but..."

"But you're also afraid that it might be a real case, right? And the caller mentioned criminals being involved, in a place like the forests outside Tokyo, it's an ideal place to get rid of a body. If they bury it in a cave, no one will ever find the body, and it'll remain an unsolved case forever. Plus, with criminals like these operating on the outskirts where our police force is weak, they might even endanger campers in the area."

Before Inspector Megure could continue, Senichi jumped in and completed his thoughts.

Well, these words were a bit exaggerated, to say the least. But Senichi wanted to achieve a certain effect!

If he didn't exaggerate a bit, how could he find an excuse to take people out?

Furthermore, after asking about the address, Senichi pretended to be surprised and mentioned that he had arranged to meet Dr. Agasa near the camping site for lunch.

Under Senichi's encouragement and assistance, Inspector Megure gradually softened and began to seriously consider the possibility of a real case.

In the end, the mindset of "better safe than sorry" took over, and with Senichi guiding him, Inspector Megure decided to check it out.

As Senichi had suggested, even if it turned out to be a wild goose chase, wasn't peace of mind worth it?

And because the caller mentioned the issue of the criminals having firearms, Senichi also suggested applying for firearms.

Although he felt it was a bit excessive, considering the possibility of the case being genuine and the criminals indeed carrying guns, Inspector Megure thought it was a good precautionary measure. After all, they were going to investigate, and if they encountered such a situation, it would be awkward if they didn't have firearms, and they would regret it if anyone got injured.

Eventually, under Senichi's "no regrets" theory and guidance, Inspector Megure made the decision to respond to the call.

After obtaining the firearms, Inspector Megure gathered his team and drove towards the camping site in a police car.

When Dr. Agasa sent the camping address to Senichi via text message, they had only just set off, though later, Senichi was delayed for some time due to discussing with Inspector Megure.

As Senichi and the others sped towards the camping site, they basically arrived one after the other.

Seeing Senichi and the others getting out of the police car, Dr. Agasa looked puzzled and asked, "Senichi-san, are you all here to go camping together?"

"With this situation, it's impossible no matter how you think about it," Conan sarcastically replied to Dr. Agasa, before looking at Senichi and the others and asked, "Detective Senichi, did something happen? Is there a case?"

"Well, sort of, but it's not confirmed yet."

Senichi briefly explained the situation and then turned to the three kids who were eager to participate, "You guys stay here and don't run around. If the report on the phone turns out to be true, it could be dangerous."

"Okay…" The three kids looked disappointed and replied weakly.

As the cave of the case was near Dr. Agasa's camping site, they soon received a message from Sato Miwako saying that they found the target.

After hearing the report on the location, Senichi and the others immediately rushed to the entrance of the cave.

"What's the situation?" Inspector Megure asked Sato Miwako quietly after seeing her.

"I just took a look at the entrance of the cave and saw lights inside, there are indeed people there," Sato Miwako reported, "But I only saw the lights, the interior is blocked by the rock wall, so I don't know the specifics."

"Well... there's a sign outside saying 'Danger, keep out,' so ordinary people probably wouldn't come in," Inspector Megure pondered for a moment and then looked at the others, "Be prepared, proceed with caution!"

"Yes!"

After checking their pistols, following Inspector Megure's signal, Senichi and the others slowly entered the cave with their guns.

Inside the dim cave, Senichi and the others lightened their footsteps as they walked deeper inside.

The place where Sato Miwako saw the lights had now turned dark.

After waiting for a while, their eyes gradually adapted to the dim environment, and Senichi and the others continued to move deeper into the cave. Soon, they discovered a faint light in the depths of the tunnel.

As they approached, the sound of shoveling from the contact between the shovel and the ground gradually reached their ears, leading them to think whether the people inside were digging a hole to bury a body...

As the light grew closer, and the two parties approached, they nodded in agreement, then immediately rushed forward.

When the scene in front of their eyes appeared, everyone instinctively raised their handguns towards the ground.
