Having encouraged her classmates to speak freely, Xie Wanying let Li Qi'an continue sharing his thoughts.
"I think we could do this, Yingying. After cutting out the tumor, we can pull it out through the anus, so there's no need to make an abdominal incision," Li Qi'an expressed his idea, "The family of Patient 11 and I both know that you have previously helped Teacher Tan successfully perform a Laparoscopic total resection of a low rectal cancer while preserving the anus. I think you can help Teacher Tan with a similar surgery again, for Patient 11, based on my concept."
"The reason that patient was able to have sphincter preservation was because of conservative treatment," Xie Wanying realistically dampened her classmate's enthusiasm.
"Ah?" Li Qi'an was taken aback.
"Because that patient was preoperatively assessed as having poorly differentiated cancer, with rapid systemic metastasis, whether or not sphincter preservation was done was no longer significant," said Xie Wanying.
