Family of the Sunflower

Ever since Alektrona watched a movie about faeries, she always believed in supernaturals. When people told her there are no such things as supernatural, she always replied, "If there are no such things as supernaturals, where did the myths and legends come from? Imagination? Hallucination? I don't know! But I would love to know and meet one," She says it with a bright smile but, once she meets their confused gaze, she looks back at them with the same confusion as them. "I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who believes in spirits and faeries... right...? " And look at them expectation in her eyes. Her answer makes others fall speechless apart from her grandmother, who loves Greek mythology. Although Alek believes in the existence of supernaturals, she's never encountered one. God knows how many books she's read about Supernaturals. Alek talked to everything she sees and asks them, "When will you guys finally show up to me and start a conversation? I wouldn't tell anybody! I just want to meet you guys so that I couldn't die happily. So I'll be here, waiting for you guys to show up and talk to me." *********** Alek sneakily entered the room and was greeted by a boy facing toward the window opposite the door that she just entered. She thought he was Kai. She prepared to scare him. But before she tried to do anything, he snapped his neck to where she was standing. She was caught off guard. But what she saw next was enough for her brain to stop functioning. "What the..." Alek could not continue. The boy looked like her dead brother, Aether. *********** "They are not friendly, especially the Shiwasu." Astraea told her niece. "If you can't prove that you are able to replace her, then we are all doomed." Everyone was listening to her with serious faces, even the youngest looked like she knew that would be the end. "I will prove it." Alek spoke with determination in her eyes. ------------------ This is the story about shape-shifters and some parts are written in Japanese in roman alphabet as this book contains a little bit of Japanese culture and tradition. What?

[A/N: I'm going to put Alex's name as Alexander to avoid misreading "Alek" and "Alex"]

"I don't want them to awaken Alexander and Mel's supernatural side." Everyone listened as the girl said those words. "At least for now. First, I want to explain everything to them. This is what is happening to their lives and not mine. I don't have the authority to control it, they do."

Rin pushed up the glasses he wore since he came back from taking the faes to another room. "If that's the case, we need to tell them to pause."

"Yeah..." Jin nodded.

But before Alek could even turn her head to the door and start walking, the queen of pixie was at the door, leaning lightly on the frame. "Oh, don't you worry about that."

Only the adults knew who she was and immediately bowed slightly to show respect. The pixie did the same.

Bia looked at Jin with a frown on her face while Kai and Iris stayed quiet and examined the intruder with uninterested faces.

"We don't plan to lift the spell now. That would be a little dangerous. We need his consent and him awake to lessen the side effects." Tinka continued as she walked over to the group. She stood in front of the three youngsters who didn't know her and introduced herself with a twinkling smile. "Hi. I'm Tinka. Queen of pixies."

Bia widened her eyes for a second before she, too, introduced herself. "Hello. I'm Bia. Sister to Alek."

"I kind of guessed that." The queen giggled and turned to the boy and the girl.

"I'm Kai. Brother to Alek and Bia."

"I'm Iris. Castor and Pollux's younger sister." Although the two introduced themselves, they sounded as if they wanted nothing out of the pixie.

Tinka frowned and looked at the twins for help. She didn't know who Castor and Pollux were.

Jin hurriedly pointed at himself, "I'm Castor."

"Pollux." Rin, too, pointed himself.

"Ohh." After Tinka learned all the names of the people in the room, she continued what she was saying before she greeted them. "If you want to tell them, we can wake them up for you, and you can tell us later what their decision is some other day."

"Thank you." Alek thanked.

"You're welcome. Now, follow me. I'll show you the room."

With that, the two walked out. The family was left confused and curious.

It all started with Panacea asking the twins, "So you are telling me that Melvin we know for about four years is a pixie?"

Followed by Robin, Bia and Kai. "How come we couldn't point out that Alec was a fae?..."

"Do you really think this is going to go well?"

"This is so weird..."

The only one looking confused and troubled was the grandpa. He didn't exactly have the time to meet with the Minazuki side of the family, and it had been a while since he met his first son and his family.

After a rage of questions was thrown at the older children, the room became quiet until Johan asked awkwardly to ease the tension. "Anyway, how are y'all doing?"

----

When Tinka brought Alek to the room where they were examining Melvin, all the faes moved aside, including Jesper, and slowly got out of the room in exchange.

"We'll be leaving." The king of pixies told the shifter as he exited the room.

A pixie, she didn't know the name of, told Alek. "He will wake up in about five minutes."

Alek nodded to that and thanked the pixies before they closed the door quietly and left.

She had just sat on one of the stools in the room when there was a soft knock on the door, and Tinka's head popped from the opened space.

"I brought the other one."

Alek watched as her best friend was brought into the room, next to his boyfriend, like a balloon on a string by Tinka and Pari.

"I wish you the best of luck." Tinka wished as Pari agreed on her side and, once again, left the girl with the sleeping boys.

Just like the pixie said, it took five minutes for Alek and Melvin to slowly wake up from magical sleep. In that five minutes, the girl tried to think of the things she would tell them, but when her eyes met theirs, her mind went blank.

"What's this?" Alexander asked before he could see that he was floating.

"AHHH!" Melvin was the first to realise, followed by Alexander, who saw the other floating.

Luckily, as soon as they realised what they were on, the invisible, magical bed steadily began dissolving into thin air and gave time for the two to carefully settle down on the ground.

As soon as Alexander was on his feet, he touched his leg and hands, "What the f*ck was that?!"

Even though Melvin wasn't saying anything, one could see that he was also surprised and wondering what was happening.

Alexander raised his eyes to meet his best friend sitting on a chair with a serious face while looking at them with eyes with determination and a bit of fear.

"Alek, what is going on?"

"What was that?" Melvin asked, having the same expression as Alexander, confusion and fear.

The girl didn't answer the question and instead, took a deep breath with closed eyes before she gestured to the chairs, "Could you guys sit down, please?"

Seeing that the girl was not her usual self, which was goofy, smiley and laughing, the to listened to her and settled down on the stools. Of course, the two poked the chairs and ensured they were safe before sitting on them.

Alek's breathing was going wild as her best friends sat in front of her and the time for her to tell them came close. To calm her irregular breathing, she closed her eyes and the next time she opened them, those eyes weren't brown anymore. They were golden yellow.

"!!!" Melvin instinctively leaned backwards from the danger those eyes told him.

The change in the atmosphere those eyes brought was unearthly. The sun hid in the clouds, and the temperature in the room dropped drastically. Everything appeared colourless apart from the eyes with black slits in the middle.

The girl looked at her other friend with a straight face just to see him putting his arms in front of Melvin, shielding him from her.

Alek said sternly and calmly as she signed, "I'm a supernatural."

"This is not the time to tell horrible jokes!" Melvin said while shaking his head.

"I'm not joking."

"NO SH*T." Alexander shielded his boyfriend further.

Without a choice, Alek half-shifted her right forearm and stretched it out to them to show them.

"It's the truth," She quietly said and watched her friends go speechless at seeing her yellow-golden scaled, half-dragon hand.

The two neither spoke nor touched her hand for a very good amount of time, and Alek couldn't bear to witness what they thought of her and cast her eyes to the floor.

Just as she was about to withdraw her hand, she felt something warm, carefully caressing her scaled hand.

Alek looked up to find the tips of his chubby fingers making contact with her skin. She didn't need to see the face of the owner to know who it was. When her eyes made contact with Melvin's he was startled for a second before he bravely resumed what he was doing without looking away from the soul-snatching eyes.

Gradually, his fingertips turned into fingers, then to hand contact.

"I believe you," Melvin told his friend, and engulfed her hands in his.

Alek's eyes watered, and then in the next moment, she felt another hand hold her.

"I believe you too, although this is all so crazy and super weird, but, I do." Alexander told her and pulled his lips upward with a frown. "Plus, this scales feel authentic."

The girl laughed and let out a tear from her eyes. "Oh man, I finally told you guys."

The boys let go of her hand, and Melvin asked, "Since when have you been keeping this from us?"

Alek un-shifted her right hand and wiped the second tear from the other hand. Her best friends 'Woah-ed' at the transformation they witnessed.

"Since my birthday?" She told them and sighed deeply. Felt like all the weight on her heart and shoulders was gone.

"Why?" Alexander asked.

"Because..." Alek paused, trying to think of a short sentence to describe the situation, but when she couldn't think of one, she said, "Actually it's a long story, but I am not exactly here to tell you that I'm a supernatural."

Melvin demanded she shifted her hand again before he asked, "Then what's all of this?" He then slid his hand across the scales with a grin on his face like a scientist who just discovered a new species.

Alek's eyes wiggled for a moment before she bit her lower lip and hesitantly uttered, "You guys are... supernatural... too. Like me."

Everything seemed like someone pressed a pause. It took some seconds for Alexander to start moving from the frozen statue position with an open mouth and a confused look. And for Melvin to reopen his eyes and blink a couple of times while leaning into her.

"What?" Melvin asked, not smiling. Her words weren't sinking into him.

"That you," Alek looked at the blonde, "Are a pixie and you," she then looked at the brunette, "Are a fae."
