Chapter 32: Habby Habby Birthday

It was about a forty-minute drive normally to reach the nearest Habanero’s from San Luis. As they joined the interstate, however, and Alphonse started to put the car through its paces, Jonathan watched as the prediction ticked down minute by minute.

Strangely, however, he felt more sure of his safety than when Dr. Page had driven him to his remote mansion.

‘And look how right that instinct was…’ he thought, watching Alphonse deftly maneuver the sports car through the evening traffic. The car was low to the ground, fast, and Jonathan realized that Alphonse’s vampiric senses were probably assisting him through every tight turn and lane change.

This particular Habanero’s stood alone in the parking lot of a major mall in the area, a pinkish-tan building with a mural even Jonathan had to admit was garish, featuring the restaurant’s habanero pepper mascot in various famous places around the world.
