I was left alone by the guys. A sleeping room door was propped open. As she had cooperated, they had not bothered to secure her cell.

If I could only reach the garage, where I knew Mathew had his keys arranged in a row, I could get them. I was finally free to leave the estate once I was in the BMW. If I had to, I'd smash through those fences.

To make my way across the marble entryway floor stealthily, I took up my flats and decided to carry them. It was possible that both Mathew and Nicola were out, but I figured at least one of them would be home. So, Nicola, most likely. Mathew departed often to attend to his business in the city.

I don't know how I could have forgotten about that whole ordeal. It was clear last night that Matthew and Nicola were criminals, as they had shown their true, vile colors.

I descended the stairs on my tiptoes with no shoes on. I could hear the low rumble of their voices coming from the kitchen as I went downstairs.
