Strategies Against a Siege

Knock, knock.

"Come in."

The door cracked open and Hathon walked in. "What is it this time, Baston?"

"Don't act so cold. We both have a hand in this, so we might as well be friends, or cordial acquaintances at least," Elder Baston remarked, completely relaxed while eating his breakfast at the table. "Would you like some? Considering how your home has been deemed as no man's land for the time being, I'm sure you would love a good, home-cooked meal."

Scoffing teasingly, Hathon sat down but lifted his hand to stop Baston from wasting his time. "I've already eaten. So if you want to butter me up, you'll have to get creative. And no, you're not my type, in case you dare to crack the joke I've heard a thousand times."

Eyeing Hathon, Baston chuckled. "Really? I distinctively remember you and your husband extending that offer to various individuals."
