While Nelphy was struggling to swallow an unimaginable dose of reality, Jash stood atop the front steps of the city barracks. His eyes were filled with both anxiety and enthusiasm.

"Finally…" Jash hyped himself up and took that first step.

Entering the barracks, Jash was surprised to see how tidy and orderly it was. Then, Jash realized the barracks had a large, dedicated reception area, unlike anything he'd seen in towns.

"Yes, sir, how may we help you?" One of the five receptionists asked, smiling warmly.

"R-right. I'm here for a job."

"Oh? Well, give me a moment and I'll see what openings we have here at–"

"I want to join the guard," Jash stated, taking out two envelopes. "I met with Mayor Hathon and his assistant, Golbert, in Boarril. They recommended that I come here after moving in."
